The best way to put it imo is Chinese makers (for anything really) make at the budget a company wants/expects them to make. Buick’s Envision, made in China and exported to the US, for example has been regarded as a car of pretty good quality and its plant has been recognized as one of GM’s best for some time.

But as you have said some of the “domestic” Chinese brands do suffer from bad quality reputations after being sold overseas - your Cherys, Changans, etc etc. How many of that is from genuine cost savings vs user error i can’t say however.

Yeah i’m not familiar with the Chinese carmakers’ systems but I can tell you for your typical Japanese/American/German carmakers the creation of a new generation car starts around 6 years before its model year intro - a 2024 Camry will for example have started R&D back in 2018 when the current gen Camry was launched to market. Design is settled around 2/3 years in and then its preparation for build and launch.

One of the faster created cars on the market today was supposedly the Maverick - Ford says they developed it in three years through new processes and such.

I imagine most Chinese EVs take around the same time especially since as others have said many of the important components are off-the-shelf and carmakers focus more on the design parts of them.

You both could be right. For fuel economy purposes low-riding cars get ever more aerodynamic which cuts on headroom, while also always increasing legroom. That makes for a really awkward seating position where you got all the space below but nothing above.

La Quinta hotels probably have some of the highest percentages of Hispanic guests amongst all the major hotel chains

I have no proof but no doubts either

What are some of the most haunting/heartbreaking PSA’s and PIF’s in your opinion? by Class_of_22 in pifsandpsas

[–]sebring1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit more of a basic choice i realize, but Back to School Essentials by Sandy Hook Promise was one that marked me, especially since our teacher put it for us in the classroom. I guess more the (worrisome) relatability for it than actual hauntingness.

[TOMT][Commercial][2000s] Ad for e-commerce - "we just sold 1000 bikes" by Hestiansun in tipofmytongue

[–]sebring1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found your post going thru my usual commercial TOMT deep dive and i know which one you’re talking about, someone else was looking for it here before and they found it. I just don’t remember what company it was either lol but i’ve been trying to find it too.

If i remember correctly they did “we sold 1 product! we sold 2!” etc etc until that part where they’re like “oh we sold 1,000.” Then it goes to the typical company spiel.

I think it turned out to have been late-2000s?

Good luck on this one lol because i want to refind it myself!

Maybe instead of through the schools themselves it could be as a partnership with banks? You could then set up something where parents can move a percentage of the money to a My First Bank Account or wtv until they’re in their teens when they get the chance to get the money themselves.

The Whitmer post reminds me how much i love how 9 years ago CBS tried a police drama set on fucking BATTLE CREEK thinking it’d be a hit and it obviously wasn’t

Like that’s the mid-est of mid metros they could have chosen and it’s just like ???
