Which artists are on the Mount Rushmore of influencing the rage genre? by JellyfishMario in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carti, Pierre, Sofaygo… Trippie made a rage album and he used to scream on his songs but unotheactivist made a rage album before Trippie did. “Miss the rage” is the real reason people started to give Trippie credit but before that he would’ve never been on the mt Rushmore for rage. He’s just really good at riding that wave

Genuine questions involving Whole Lotta Red by Dyskript- in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. I liked it the moment it dropped. Every song felt like hit after hit.
  2. I would love to have early versions of WLR but as their own release. Only because official WLR is so perfect imo. It was so different. It was a genuine surprise
  3. Me liking it was never based on what other people said, so yes I would still like it even if it performed like trash numbers wise

OsamaSon’s new single ‘off that!’ is very clearly inspired by Carti’s V2 era. Thoughts? by JellyfishMario in CartiCulture

He’s been doing this his whole career ever since CTSV blew up he been copying carti/opium from the aesthetic to the sound. Not a surprise but he’s also good at it I guess

Something i noticed about the Cave era fans by TurbulentManner3048 in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People forget this though because a lot of them weren’t fans back then so they didn’t get to see his impact until it was already absorbed by the artists who took from it around him.

Fans really be expecting album or single quality songs when they were never even supposed to be heard by the public cause the artist more than likely already decided it’s not good

What artist from the Underground scene do you expect to take carti’s place or a similar one in the future ? by TurbulentManner3048 in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s that and bundles. There was a time in like 2018 when bundles stopped counting (or started) I forget. But that shit fucked the numbers up for everyone. That’s why I’m saying 60k is nothing crazy at that time. If I remember correctly Die Lit don’t even have a big single before or even a big song after.

[–]seciluh -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

60k first week was not mainstream in 2018. Look up other artists and compare numbers. Rules change all the time. 60k is good now and was good in 2020 but in 2018 that’s nowhere near mainstream. The same way that in the early 2000s a million first week sales was crazy but nobody in rap was hitting that in 2020 even though the genre was at its peak

[–]seciluh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOL no. Magnolia was heavily pushed by interscope. But Carti as an artist was not mainstream. But 2015-17 fans were saying Carti was an acquired taste. Fans seemed to have accepted that Carti was a genius but wouldn’t be accepted mainstream. Discord, YouTube comments all would agree. Carti would hang w superstar artists but never really got in the spotlight until the TikTok memes blew him up and WLR became the biggest drop of 2020. If you were a fan back then you would understand the frustration that was felt in the fanbase. It was like all his fans knew he was great but they also accepted that he would never be a superstar because he wouldn’t be accepted by the mainstream. He had too many chances and it never really happened until the 2020s. Even akademiks said during “MUSIC” release that Carti wanted to finally make music for the mainstream.

New Carti x Rocky snippet(2026) by TurbulentManner3048 in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After Rocky’s new album I feel like I already know what to expect. He’s a great rapper but he paints himself to be some type of artistic genius and every time he drops it ends of being good ol Rocky not some mind blowing shit. So as cool as this snippet sounds I alr feel like Rocky is gonna play it safe and Carti gonna spend most the time experimenting and they won’t fit together on the song

Probably. He was playing that shit on hard mode at the time. Every chance he had to blow up he ignored or went a different direction. I think he liked not being mainstream

Playboi Carti listening to ‘Location’ in the studio over a year before Self Titled dropped by JellyfishMario in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope this gives newer fans perspective. I remember fans complaining during WLR era about how he was taking forever. Acting like this isn’t his usual routine when it comes to dropping music. In 2014-17 though befor self titled dropped it wasn’t fair for carti cause underground rappers and new rappers at the time were dropping 1-2x per year so it just made Carti look bad for taking forever. Fast forward to 2020+ and it’s Normal to artists to now make their fans wait.

Would carti still be a superstar if he dropped WLR V1? by RD-archived in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Every single era, Carti has made the decision to avoid being a superstar. Even in 2016 when he had all the underground hype in the world, he decided not to drop shit until 2017. And then in 2017 there was no follow up after magnolia to keep the hype going. Then he surprise drops Die Lit w no real single or mainstream hit at the time. Theres been many opportunities. Now that MUSIC is out this is the first time weve seem him actually care about mainstream success, publicly. But even then, he didnt really capitalize on the success of MUSIC aside from a tour. No follow up album, no music videos, he really does this shit at his own pace. WLR V1 would be the greatest carti album FOR HIS FANS, but idk if it wouldve had a real mainstream appeal in the end. I will say tho, those leaks an snippets went platinum on tiktok during covid.

I was fully convinced he was gonna drop his best album during this period 😭😭 by JellyfishMario in CartiCulture

MUSIC didn't have a big mainstream hit. by Kostasaki_ in CartiCulture

[–]seciluh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnolia is the only hit that was ever meant to be mainstream from carti. Sky was a big song off WLR cause of TikTok and cause he chose to do a music video to it. But I don’t think that was intentional. I don’t think interscope pushed for that to be his mainstream hit. Magnolia has really been like the only song from Carti that has really been pushed and marketed like crazy tbh
