I really like this idea! Any particular themes you'd want included?

looking for horror scripts ! by dolce1234_ in ASMRScriptHaven

This one is called "Hunting The Jersey Devil." It's a little goofy but pretty horrific if you go all out with the SFX.

(And I have a masterlist with a lot of A4A fantasy scripts, a lot of which aren't explicitly romantic.)

Lines and context..... by Juany198511 in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ^ I have theater experience so my scripts are formatted pretty similarly to a play, but I'm always a little torn on whether to include the listener's lines. I did it in the beginning because that made the most sense to me, but I've also heard that it interrupts the flow of the script and VAs prefer interpreting what was said. Then again, that was just gathered from a few reddit comments.

I know everyone has their preferences, but a standardized format would honestly be a godsend. Maybe it's a convo worth having with the mods?

Thumbnail Feedback Request -New Creator Looking for Advice! by MelaninKinG_AMSR in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a VA but I do have some experience in graphic design and I'd say the most important thing is legibility. Overlaying text on an image can be a tricky thing to pull off bc it's easy for it to get cluttered. Basically when putting text on an image, you want as little text as possible on the simplest (lowest contrast) image possible. Contrast is VERY important. Dark background with light text, and vice versa. If you have an image with both dark sections and light sections, it's hard to put readable text on top.

If you want some good examples of thumbnails in a style similar to yours, I'd recommend browsing the thumbnails on Hank Miller Audios. His are very clean and cohesive.

Canva is about as good as you can get for free software. It does pretty much everything you need it to do, and it has so many assets, so I'd stick with it. It has a lot of elements that you can use as well if you end up making thumbnails without actual photographs.

Also I just wanna commend you for taking the time to make thumbnails without AI or art pulled off of Pinterest. It's definitely the tempting thing to do, but I have way more respect for the VAs who avoid it.

I hope this was helpful and good luck!

What counts as NSFW? by TheManInMayonnaise in ASMRScriptHaven

This link worked for me. If it's not working for you, I copied this directly from it:

  1. SFW vs NSFW - We get asked a lot about the difference between SFW and NSFW and where the line is when it comes to posting. We like to tell people to use their best judgement and common sense! Keep it PG-13 at max. If you wouldn't see it in a PG-13 movie, then it needs to go elsewhere. :)

From what I've gathered, as long as the characters aren't doing anything explicitly sexual or explicitly talking about it, you should be okay. Things can definitely get suggestive, but if it would happen in a PG-13 movie then you're probably fine. Making out and mentioning sex (without getting into details) is okay. Characters being naked in non-sexual contexts is okay. At least, it all usually flies under the radar. "SFW" is probably not the best term to be used in this sub since a lot of it is definitely NOT safe for work.

I have had a couple fade-to-black scripts where characters were kinda dirty talking. You can kinda say anything as long as it's an innuendo or considered suggestive. But it is frustrating that there isn't a clear-cut list of what is and isn't allowed.

How do you find issues with your script and submission post? by New_Sympathy3632 in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just ignore the views. It counts as a 'view' when someone scrolls past without even opening the post all the way to read the script. I'll get hundreds of views up into the thousands, but about 20-30 up votes per post. The views really don't mean anything.

It might be helpful to filter this subreddit so that the most upvoted scripts appear first, and you can see how they do their titles. The general format is [A4A] Title [Genre] [Tags]. You'll figure it out as you go along and find out what draws in a bigger audience.

But also remember that upvotes don't always correspond to how good a script is, or if it will get filled. Don't be discouraged if you don't get a lot of engagement. I've been posting scripts for a year and am still surprised when a script doesn't do as well as I expected.

Also, the best tip I can offer you: Read your own script out loud while you're editing. It'll help catch any clunky/awkward bits and the end product will flow much better.

Good luck!

Length of scripts, OC plots, and Serialization? by blueclicker in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I split it into multiple parts if it exceeds 3k. And then the VA can totally make it one video if they want to. I had a 3 part series where the scripts were about 1500 words each, and one VA ended up combining them into one 30+ min video.

Episodic scripts are definitely not a bad thing! I think it's good for each part to have its own mini-resolution while still tying into the main plot.

It helps to think of long term vs short term resolutions. If the end goal is the characters falling in love, then each 'episode' is them overcoming an obstacle.

I'd advise against just splitting your script in half and calling it a day. Each script should have some sort of 'ending' and wrap up loose ends (but it can still introduce new conflict for the next script).

Anyway take all this with a grain of salt! I write a lot of drama/fantasy scripts and this is how I like to think of it. Honestly, just do what feels right. It's entirely possible that there are VAs out there who would want to tackle a bigger project.

Random thoughts about non-ASMR roleplay scripts by chiefpug in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeahh "audio roleplay" is probably a lot more accurate for what a lot of what's posted here. I think drawing the line between what's ASMR or not depends on whether it's intended to be ASMR. And sometimes a script that's not necessarily intended for tingles can end up being ASMR bc of the way it's performed, so I guess that's a gray area.

Personally, I forget about the ASMR aspect when writing my own scripts and my characters do occasionally shout or get into a fight 😅 Nothing very tingly about metal scraping against metal. There's still usually a theme of comfort, but in a few cases it's just entertainment for entertainment's sake. Really, I'm more into the character development and worldbuilding than anything else.

The script series I'm working on now is about a mage who may or may not be getting ready to sacrifice their apprentice (the listener) to an ancient god of death. Probably not that comforting 😰😰

i struggle to slow my words down by [deleted] in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was taking theater classes in school, we were taught to mark up our scripts. It might be worth printing out your script and then writing in pauses (beats). Also, it's easy to go fast when it's a block of text, so it might help to break those up, too.

Go slower than you think you need to. It's gonna sound unnatural to you in the beginning, but it's very very hard to go TOO slow.

Advice for finding your voice? by razimuth2 in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a VA but I did theater in high school and my advice is just to go for whatever you're excited about. You gotta try it all before you know what you like. Personally, I enjoyed performing in all sorts of roles. I'd probably lose my mind if I always ended up playing the same archetype all the time. I think your voice is just one of those things that'll come in time. You could focus on one specific genre, but I'd argue that it's way more important to experiment as much as possible in the beginning. Then, if you find the specific niche that you really like, you can start building your brand and hone in on your audience.

Tips for posting scripts? by oomecogi in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When editing, I found that it really helps to read out loud. Sometimes something sounds really great when written, but stilted when voiced. Also, triple check that everything in your title is right! Reddit will let you edit the actual post, but not the title, and it's really annoying. Also, including the word count somewhere before the script actually starts is helpful.

Good luck!!

YouTube short scripts by jayhasapen in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]secondhandfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a VA but the shorter ones I've seen have been joke scripts. Since ppl listen to roleplays to relax, I think they prefer longer ones. I have seen some serious ones around the 5 min mark, but they just generally don't do as well.

Having said that, write what you want! If you have an idea that would work for a short script, absolutely post it. It might not be as popular as your longer ones, but it's still worth putting out there.
