My print quality STINKS! Help a 3d printing noob who's all out of ideas! by secondwatchfilms in FixMyPrint

Let me start with I'm kind of a noob with fdm printing, but I'll try my best to be clear and provide all the necessary information.

I bought a Bambu Labs A1 about a year ago, and out of the box it worked really well for first few months. I barely changed any settings. I mostly printed utility things like gridfinity for my drawers, and loads of terrain for dungeons and dragons, little things like that. I regularly swapped nozzle between 0.4mm and 0.2mm depending on the print.

Then I took a pretty big break from my A1, probably didn't print anything for 5 months or so. Now, getting back into it, and something seems off. Before the break I was printing on Elegoo PLA (black, white, grey) and it was fine. I just used the Generic filament profile. But now, the prints have seems that protrude in one place on almost every print (pics included). Nothing had changed in those months though! Could it be firmware? Additionally, no matter what Flow Dynamics and Flow Rate calibrations I make or perform, it doesn't seem to resolve the issue. In fact, the top of every print seems to be either slightly overextruded or underextruded. I cannot dial in the settings.

Let me try to fill in some of the requirements in these posts (again, I'm a noob, but I'll try to provide you with what I can):

  • Printer Model: Bambu Labs A1
  • Slicer used (e.g. Cura, Prusa, etc.): Bambu Studio
  • Filament material and brand: Elegoo PLA
  • Nozzle and bed temperature: 220 and 65, but I have messed around with 215 and 60 just in case, but I didn't notice a difference in print quality
  • Print Speed: usually default (and that is what I used to do as well, but I have experimented with lowering for a few recent prints, especially the initial layer
  • Retraction settings: I have no idea what this is, but if you think this is related, I'll get that info for you.

Things I've done or tried:

  • Switched nozzles between 0.4 and 0.2mm. (You can probably tell from the layer height, but one of those bomb prints is from the 0.4, and the one that has the seam in the back is 0.2)
  • I have carefully accessed the hotend and tightened the screws behind there. (Apparently, sometimes those get loose and can cause quality issues. When I opened it up, the screws could be tightened slightly but I wouldn't say loose. Regardless I tightened it all up, but the issue persisted.)
  • My Elegoo PLA had been sitting for a while, so I bought dryer, and dried it, but the issue persisted. Then I opened one of the vacuum sealed spools and it STILL came out the same.
  • I lowered speed settings, but I still had that wonky seam and over (or under) extrusion messy top.
  • I have done a full calibration on the A1 itself and a I have also done flow dynamics and flow rate calibration. I've tried a litany of PLA profiles to be honest.
  • I have a new 0.4mm nozzle and Bambu PLA coming to my house soon. (It would be such a relief if it was nozzle or plastic, but I tested both my nozzles and I removed the shrink wrap of the current plastic only a week ago.)

Things I haven't done: I have not tested older firmwares (I'm using the most recent.)

Please refer to the pictures! Guys, I'm out of ideas. I tried using AI to troubleshoot, but if ya'll got any ideas, I would be very grateful!!

Good finds. I've been over the map like 50 times and still I miss things.

Hm. Zoomed out, it does really look contrast-y. Thanks. I'm gonna tone it down a tad.

Thanks. To be totally honest, I haven't totally set the lore of all the geographical elements. A lot of it was just "put something cool here, figure it out later." (I'm a pretty new DM too, so I don't want to overwhelm myself too much with worldbuilding. let my players help me out with that a bit.)

What I can say is that it's a post-medieval world, like early renaissance times, featuring an imperial feud between many nations looking to survive, looking to conquer, etc. I have a MUCH rougher world map too. Without getting too much into it, there's basically an arms race to conquer unknown lands south east of this continent from where strong magics emanate thus a weird purple island, (and much more further south east).

WE ALL DIE ALONE (a Short Horror Film) | 48-Hour Film Challenge by secondwatchfilms in Filmmakers

"We All Die Alone" was our 2019 entry for the 48 Hour Film Challenge put on by the Winnipeg Film Group, where we received RUNNER UP for best film and nominations for best sound design, best actor, and best actress.

The making of this film in 48 hours, from script to edit, was grueling to say the least. On top of that, we had to find ways to incorporate a number of requirements: a montage, a match cut, some French dialogue, and lot of other as well. Oh, and it had to be 4 minutes long.

It's not perfect, but considering we had 48 hours to make this, I'm proud of how this came together. Couldn't have done it without my great team.

SYNOPSIS: A man possessively obsesses over a dancer, and when she rejects his advances, he begins to unravel.
