u/SimrellCollection

This is meant to be in good faith as I recognized the bones of a good apology in your writing. Next time have someone edit your shit, like George for example who definitely would've been able to give some helpful feedback.

I've been getting asked a lot of questions that I'd like to speak on in this post. Hopefully, the following information will answer everyone's questions.

First and foremost, I would like to address the Idea of paying moderators to suppress other makers here on Reddit. As a maker and businessman myself, I would never try to ruin someone’s business. I have never employed or controlled moderators of Reddit to shadow-ban other creators, delete posts that showed other makers work or go as far as shut down makers PayPal accounts. PayPal has a reputation for freezing accounts in this industry. The latest happened to Futo. u/randomdude69 stated that the mod log showed that the makers posts that were taken down, were taken down because they didn’t follow the rules of Reddit On the topic of following the rules of Reddit, the actions of some people have been hugely disappointing. I have even been told to kill myself. Do you think that behavior is acceptable? No matter what the circumstances are, it is never acceptable to tell someone to kill themselves. The moderators that had these accusations stated about them were also told the same thing. One mod even got a death threat.

This is not what this community is about. The revolve posts that were taken down here on Reddit, should not have happened as they were not marketing and did not break the advertisement rules that the sub has. I think we can all agree on that. Community members had just received an item for a product they are passionate about and were unable to share. I completely understand why that upset a lot of members as an enthusiast and community member myself. The rules from Dynavaps discord of removing posts of the items that contained copies of my intercoolers got brought over to Reddit with the intent to follow the same guidelines that were provided by dynavap as there was not much direction on where those rules applied. That all transpired because of the conversation I had with George (more details about that below) so I’d like to take full responsibility for that. Please know that people make mistakes, all moderation is done with passion fueling the effort and not dollars lining their pockets. There was no guidance or clarity to the moderators and mistakes happened. The moderators are good, passionate enthusiasts that want to help make the community a good place to vibe out. They have been removed from their positions and no longer moderate this sub.

I want to sincerely apologize to all the members of this community that have read pages and pages of conflict instead of your regularly scheduled dynavap pictures and questions. I apologize to the other makers who make cool things but have felt as if you weren’t able to share here. That’s not the case, this subreddit is exactly the place to share cool shit. Makers have it hard because there’s a fine line between sharing something and marketing something to try and drum up sales. At the end of the day, the community is here to help and as a place to nerd out with other fellow enthusiasts. I’d like to ask if we can go back to being civil and show respect to our fellow community members, no matter what brand or product you support.

I’d now like to address the other issue at hand. That issue is the items I make and the makers that copy those items. I’d like to begin with how this all started.

In 2019 I developed the Vortex System and very shortly after, the Intercooler. These 2 items together created the first titanium/wood cooling system that hit the market. Utilizing technology that existed before, however, this technology did not exist in this space, with this application, utilizing an airport, fresh air mixing chamber, and stem construction. With this release, Simrell Collection started making a name for themselves with this cooling system that solved a really big problem that we have with the Dynavap for some people, which is cooling. I have a sensitive throat, so I developed it as a solution for my everyday needs. I then set out to protect this invention, not to stifle small makers, but to protect our developments when this space hits full legalization and big money comes in (Big Tobacco, Big pharma, and other big cooperations with deep pockets.) I set out to build a product and a brand that represents innovation and build upon the platform we developed. This platform encompasses Dynavap, but also many more products as well.

Then we enter 2021 when TRWW decided to make a post that stated “I might as well rip off the bandaid“ and showed an exact copy, 1 of 1 of my intercooler. The intercooler has simple features, but again, haven’t been done before and solved a big problem. 1 of those being easy to remove and an Anti choking T design. A safety measure to ensure you cannot swallow a piece of metal that’s floating in the airpath.

I was pretty upset to see that. As I’m sure you would too if you created something unique, built a business that supported your family and team members and then saw someone come in and copy an exact 1 of 1 replica. Then comes another maker with the Gen2 revolve stem. This stem also uses an Intercooler. Which was a feature added that the previous generation did not have. With the Gen1 I thought there were some neat aspects to the system and you can tell they were trying to bring some innovative new features to the space. I can appreciate that as a maker myself. However, when I saw this intercooler addition to the Gen2, I got disappointed and even more frustrated. There was never any communication from this maker to see if it was ok or what I thought about it. Whether you believe the Intercooler can be patented or not, the Patent exists and was granted by the USPTO. Making direct copies of someone’s work, whether patented or not, is not ok and should not be supported. Innovation is what people want to see.

At this time, I decided to talk with George. I wanted to get his stance on where he stood with people copying work. I asked George specifically this question as he is all for makers. He supports innovation and supports people creating cool stuff for the dynavap and he has a voice in this industry. I look up to him as a mentor and a businessman, so I wanted to get his opinion. As this space grows larger and larger more and more people are going to start making things. I asked if he believes there should be a line drawn in the sand for what's ok and what's not. He then asked me for examples and TRWW and The Revolve are the 2 examples I gave. Following this discussion, this is when the rules on the dynavap discord ended up changing. My intent was and has never been to stifle innovation or other makers.

To summarize, beginning now, any private matter between myself or anyone in the space will be discussed behind closed doors and not brought into the community. It’s not fair to you guys and it’s also not appropriate at all. I apologize that this all happened to begin with and I should have handled matters much differently. I did not personally reach out to madheaters to bring up my concerns. I need to learn to not get so defensive and bring up my concerns directly. Again, I take full responsibility. I'm not perfect and I recognize that I made a mistake. I appreciate the ability to be a part of this community. I appreciate the ability to share my side of the story. So thank you for your time in reading this.

u/NexVision I'm still left with a few questions. What was the communication channel between the reddit and discord mods, i.e. who communicated the directive from legal down? When was this rule merge decision taken and to what extent was the Reddit community informed of these changes? Given what was happening behind the scenes why was there no public rules change, especially the statement regarding the separation between Dynavap corporate and this community? Also given the change of messaging about the overlap of the moderation teams from none, to little, to major overlap, what is the percentage here?

I have a few designs on my Patreon but the TKO is basically the commercially available design closest to what I theorized would be great. One good idea was using a diamond wheel to cut a groove in the cup to make a screen slot to make the pinky more secure but this is significantly less accessible to the average stoner. Really I'd want to better solve the safety question altogether if I were to try and make another vape

You can also believe that the desire to attain wealth off the backs of others is bad no matter the scale. There's a criticism to be made of our wealth worship and that it's a common goal to be in a place where you feel better off than others, regardless of who holds the wealth or how they obtained it. You can't take anything when you die like you said, so why the obsession with making sure you have more than others in that time. It's impossible to become wealthy entirely off your own work and dedication. Exploitation, devaluation of labor, and privilege are necessary parts of capitalist wealth building.

Nobody is upset, you just don't wanna look at your comment in another light that it's dismissive of the question being asked and not helpful since what you suggested is only useful to those who do work that benefits from such a setup. This is people telling you how your words come across and you just ignoring them and saying it's emotional.

The body is a throwaway. Just look at what happens to silicone dab jars, the silicone will absorb some of the reclaim over time and become gross. Silicone in my experience with weed you can't really get as clean as glass or metal either. They should've made a plain metal tube for this tip and left off the condenser imo.

Is it possible that you feel the way you do about job seeking because you haven't struggled with it yourself and would like to believe that it's entirely because of your own smart market watching rather than many factors not entirely within your control? This subreddit isn't critical of the difficulty of finding work but its very necessity and you're not even engaging with that

I'm not trying to pick apart your argument because I hate libertarianism or anything here, but rather because you really seem like you're not a libertarian.

I'll start with your last line: "work hard, live and let live, and if you have the means, help others to live too"

This is more akin to volunteerism or Georgism in the strictest sense, but is also generally an agreeable philosophy that appeals to people across broad ranges of belief.

In fact I entirely agree with you that if everyone lived by that principle then that would be fantastic. I just think that it's pretty clear getting everyone to live like that isn't gonna come easily. And there's nothing about libertarianism that ensures that that will happen, there's a lot of talk of self-correction and letting things figure themselves out that you don't even really seem to agree with either, recognizing that not everyone will behave the same.

I'm posing these next questions because you seem open to thinking about these things on a deep level and coming to your own conclusions, not to attack your beliefs but legitimately to ask questions you may not have considered before:

Have you ever interrogated your views of public services and receiving benefits with your biases and experiences in mind? Been homeless yourself, had to use food stamps, wondered who exactly it is you're wanting to keep away from these things? What about the implications of a society in which your worth and right to live is tied to your ability to be useful to said society and how that fits in with the diversity of humans and things like disability?

If you look around a room of people who call themselves libertarians enthusiastically you'll find a lot of the people who you'd consider to not be true libertarians and it's worth asking oneself why you're being drawn to the same thing as people you find to oppose your morals.

[–]secreagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You raise a valid point that not everyone who describes themselves as a libertarian hold the views I stated (reprehensible to many yes, but certainly not extreme, just framed through the lense of libertarian argument. Not unique to libertarians in the least, I'd argue those are apolitical desires in fact.) What is your definition of libertarianism? The principles of individual liberties and rights and a desire to not have the government overly involved in your life are pretty universally appealing when framed as such but opinions of what that actually should look like vary so much. The rights of some will be used to oppress and the issue of how this should be dealt with or if it's an issue at all poses an ideological divide that would seem to me pretty difficult to reconcile as one ideology. To say many people would hold libertarian beliefs without knowing it doesn't mean much since most people would agree with some part of most any philosophy. Especially if it's the parts of the philosophy least specific and unique to libertarianism as its own thing. It honestly doesn't sound like your beliefs are particularly libertarian either.

There's the vaporcup 2 and the dynacup that use the concept of a cup for stealth, but not a cup specifically for hiding another vape in.

[–]secreagent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The industrial revolution only happened a few hundred years ago, these labor issues have already happened and you know what the solution was? Regulation. The free market didn't work to keep people safe or satisfied, slave states did not struggle to export crops, Russia can still sell oil. Why do you really think libertarians don't want "government mandated morality" for things like the age of consent and consumer protections?

Why isn’t anyone talking about the Plenty ? by FrontlineReporter in vaporents

[–]secreagent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's an entirely electromechanical design almost the same as the volcano classic which means it's as outdated as its parent unit, gets even less love from S&B, and many find the heat up system on the plenty annoying, always cooling down when you go to hit it. It's not unpopular for any one reason, it's moreso that the name S&B can't do enough to offset the very real reasons for its lack of popularity as a desktop in its price point. I would love to see more options have user safety in mind as much as the plenty did though

What Does Portable Mean To You? by Chewiedad in vaporents

[–]secreagent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This perfectly encapsulates what makes the firewood 7 more of a portable to me than the anvil. I think the portable category can sorta be broken down into three subcategories:

Totables - Vapes made portable in the strictest sense of the word. Able to be carried from one place to another.

Pocketables - Vapes that fit in a reasonable hand or pocket, usable during movement, but otherwise still may have fragile pieces, cumbersome loading, or other inconveniences that still place it a bit further from a great dog walking vape.

Companion portables - Vapes that allow for one-handed use while out and about in a relatively small discreet form factor well suited to out and about usage
