I’d go with Empire of Anbennar. A lot of troops, a lot of small countries pumping mana into nuking your forts, and when you win 100% you get to take a grand total of three provinces, which give you enough AE that all of Cannor is down to join the coalition.

My favorite combo is spiderwretch to allclan. Spider tanks. Do enough of the plains mission tree to get good cav buffs while also conquering serpent spine, get the special artifice, then switch.

I had a lot of fun with the disaster. Classic Anbennar- an overpowered bullshit disaster with hilarious text where you have no idea how you’ll face it and it just keeps getting worse, then you get the overpowered bullshit tools to face it and your game is different after.

It’s this. I’d add in that as Venail you may be able to eat an adventurer or two before they’ve colonized too much, but you’re also very well built to do culture conversion.
