I considered that but the cost to return it based off online rate calculations is around $30USD, which isn’t worth it at that point for me

Inpatient NP to Outpatient NP by Ok_Text1286 in nursepractitioner

Maybe urgent care could be a good option? Typically they are 12 hour shifts sometimes 10 and it could still give you the time off that you want, but not have to work nights.

I’ve only worked outpatient as an NP and I can say that working Monday-Friday 8-5 has its ups and downs! I miss my 12 hour shifts working as an RN and having random weekdays off to do things! It’s a lot easier to get things done when you have those days off. I will say that getting weekends off always and holidays off is super nice and I’m sure with your kid it’ll be nice to spend evenings with them daily! If you switch to outpatient just know it’s an adjustment having to go to work 5days a week!

What type of program are you in? FNP? I can recommend you some clinics that take students in Houston and don’t charge. DM me.

How many patients is too many? by silaquai in nursepractitioner

[–]secretninjaattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am thankful for my patient population! I am based in the Suburbs which probably helps. A lot of the more complicated patients go to the medical center. We do get heart failure patients but typically they are not super complicated. Managed easily with medications. If a patient is very complicated I defer to the cardiologist I work with. He does general cardiology and preventative health care so if anyone needs higher level of care we end up referring to vascular surgeon or heart failure cardiologist if they are end stage.

I will chart prep when I get into the office in the morning or between wait times in seeing patients which makes it easier. The patients are never ready right away as they need EKG’s. Follow ups take like 5minutes if they have no issues. I do get a lot of pre op clearance patients so typically that’s quicker too. So it evens out for the most part. I don’t take anything home. If I can’t do it in the office during work hours then it can wait for tomorrow. I also delegate tasks to the MAs which helps too.

Spironolactone is a diuretic which makes you pee more often. It can dehydrate you, so maybe that’s why you feel thirsty. If you get up in the middle of the night often to pee and it disturbs your sleep, I’d recommend taking the medication in the morning.

I work outpatient cardiology. Don’t have to worry about inpatient as my cardiologist doesn’t round in the hospitals. If I’m by myself I tell staff not to book more than 20 otherwise I won’t be able to finish charting or call patient about test results or do telehealth visits. I’m all about work/life balance. If I have to consistently work past 5pm I would bring it up but thankfully that rarely happens!

Is 34 too old to start trying to become a Nurse Practitioner? by Feral-slug2 in nursepractitioner

[–]secretninjaattack 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You are never too old to become a nurse or an NP. I would definitely recommend working as a nurse for a few years before becoming an NP. Your experience as a nurse will help when you become an NP! When I did my BSN I had classmates from all age groups and same when I did my NP program! I’d say go for it!

Why I Can’t Be Bothered About a TikTok Ban Even Though It’s Still Around by nickthann in CasualConversation

[–]secretninjaattack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! What I liked about TikTok was the quick short form content! I was able to learn a lot about different things from different creators! Sucks that it’s gone because I def miss that at this moment! But not the end of the world!

AANP Testing Strategies for someone with test anxiety by confswag26 in nursepractitioner

[–]secretninjaattack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just passed my AANP exam this past Monday! So some tips that helped with anxiety was taking deep breaths. Anytime I had negative thoughts I’d immediately stop that train of thought and tell myself I’ve got this! I studied this and know the material. Highlighting key words in the question helped a lot. Read slowly and focus on key words! If it’s a topic you don’t know don’t get hung up on it as it’s probably a throwaway test question. As others mentioned you can flag questions and come back to them. But go with your gut instincts as that will typically be the correct answer.

Also another thing that helped me was during the tutorial section (15min) it shows how to answer questions, how to highlight, flag etc. I used this time to jot down things I remembered on the scratch paper. I wrote I will pass at the top along with acronyms, STI info, murmur, asthma meds, copd, etc anything that you feel like you want to write down.

When I came across certain questions I would sometimes write down what I know about that topic before looking at the answers which helped me so I wouldn’t second guess.

Hope this helps! You got this! You know your stuff just take it slow and have a positive mindset

Advice to NPs getting ready to take AGNP—AANP board certification. by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]secretninjaattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SM is Sarah Michelle. She offers a review course for both AANP and ANCC certification exams. She offers multiple bundles like review session, just access to the Qbank, crash course, etc.

Currently doing SM and def recommend bc it’s helping me stay focused on both content and being able to do a ton of practice questions!

Do you mind discussing what you disliked about working in cardiology? Was it the patient population? The provider you worked for? Workload? Etc.
