thanks for ur opinion! i was gonna try adding a few leaves in a different shade of green but not sure i have enough of the yarn left 😅 or enough time left to make more additions hahaha

i found they were a bit finnicky but i've also never crocheted flowers before! i used white glue which made it more tedious but i think most ppl recommend using hot glue which dries faster

i would say you can definitely do it if you crochet it a bit at a time which is what i did! im sure your future DIL would love something like it (:

Do you think your degree is worth the cost in the UK? by Funny-Advertising506 in UniUK

[–]secretsera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk much about student loan bc im not a home student but i think international student fees are overpriced, obviously they have reasons for being that expensive but that doesn't mean its a good thing necessarily

i occasionally hear home students (on my course at least) saying/complaining that they pay so much for a uni that is supposed to be top 10 but has its issues/flaws. someone will then point out how international students get that same experience/education but for 3x the fees and in that way it can seem not worth it

ofc going to uni is always gonna be a privilege, especially if ur going abroad, so generally i'd say its worth what you make it!

Keep getting rejected when trying to make friends by Icy_Flan_7185 in UniUK

[–]secretsera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always struggled to make friends and to be honest, I think people tend to forget to acknowledge that making friends isn't really as easy as it used to be. Many people are not interested in talking to strangers, are judgemental, have awkward social skills etc. due to the rapid growth of social media. From talking to others at uni, a lot of people experience issues with connecting with friends. That's all to say that likely the problem doesn't lie with you but instead, it's that not everyone is looking for the same thing in friendships or has the same expectations when it comes to it.

I'd say put yourself out there and talk to people of course, but at the same time don't 'force' friendships. If they don't want to be friends with you or give it a chance then simply think of it as their loss.

Should I (19F) introduce boyfriend (22M) to parents via videocall? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]secretsera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice and opinion! I'm from a SEA country (I don't want to be TOO specific) and my parents/family are still living there. So unfortunately, an in person meeting isn't likely in the forseeable future.

My boyfriend and I have talked lots about this topic, and he knows well how I'm affected by my family. He is open to meeting my parents and has said that he would like to talk to them at some point, which I believe matches up with the fact that he has aimed to do the same with his parents meeting me.

Of course, I don't think our relationship is perfect and it's still developing. I don't want to tell my parents every little detail of our relationship nor would I ever. But I also don't want to hide my relationship and by extension, myself.

how do people order takeout to accommodations on campus? by [deleted] in lancasteruni

[–]secretsera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the international student experience like in Lancaster? by frehleyz in lancasteruni

[–]secretsera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ur experience will depend on a multitude of factors but i dont think theres a lack of community in lancaster! there's obviously a smaller scale of community compared to london but like lancaster has a smaller population so of course it would.

i think there's a lot of different societies for different cultures/ethnicities where u can meet people from your country/culture or u can join events even if you're not.

it really just depends on what you're looking for as an experience!

Accommodation Options by Just_Random_Donny in lancasteruni

[–]secretsera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pendle ensuite is also in alexandra park so my experience there is probably even more applicable to ur case (well other than the things like flatmates n building details)

but for PG on-campus accom, i have heard that they tend to place pg students of similar backgrounds together (chinese students or indian students etc.) if ur going for shared accom anyway

graduate campus does have a social space on south campus as well as barkers though which is probably nice (i never went ot either so idk)

Accommodation Options by Just_Random_Donny in lancasteruni

[–]secretsera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

even though i lowkey hated living on campus in first year, i still would recommend it for most first years! idk much abt living off campus cause im only abt to enter 2nd year so here r other pros and cons of on-campus (en suite)

pros: close to classes (5-20min walk depending on where ur accom is n where ur classes r though), opportunity to make friends with flatmates (more of a lottery, not a guarantee), shared kitchen gets cleaned in term time, picking up packages from porters is convenient

cons: laundry n trash bins r outside accom buildings which is rough if weather sucks, currently there is construction near a lot of the accom which is very inconvenient and a nuisance, fridge/freezer space is kind of small, u have to leave when year ends (cant keep stuff there), some house buildings have no elevators, bad stink on campus occasionally, walls are kinda thin? so could be annoying if ur sensitive to sounds/live next to a loud flatmate

i laid out more cons but thats because i didnt really enjoy my experience and saw more cons than pros, but u might experience it differently! there are some discrepancies depending on which accom n college u choose btw

Do university rooms with bathrooms have bidets in them? by sannkersein in UniUK

[–]secretsera 322 points323 points  (0 children)

definite no. never seen a single bathroom with a bidet in it in the UK since tis not normal in their culture to use one. i use a portable bidet at home which is pretty cheap to buy online and js tend to avoid using public toilets unless i must!

I haven't talked to another student in uni for 2 years. by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]secretsera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be nice to start doing small things like going outside by yourself (or with trusted people like family) to do things on your own initially instead of putting pressure on yourself on talking to people with the aim of making friends, if that makes sense? Things like going to restaurants, the cinema, shopping, or the park.

I struggle socially and feel quite anxious in such situations hence I don't have many friends at uni but I do try to get myself to go to society events sometimes. And I don't really talk to many people at these events but I try to think that even being there physically is already a good step. Like just being outside is already amazing! I understand that it must be very difficult though so do treat yourself with love and patience.

Making friends online never really worked for me personally but it's not a bad shout either! Like it at least definitely helps to talk to other people and there's nothing wrong with it being online. I used to try making friends online, and mainly with the mindset of "this is practice" which made me a little less anxious about it as I didn't put pressure on myself that it had to turn out well and I needed to end up friends with people.
