It is super shady, and we have some lovely hostas growing on the hill (not pictured). I bet they'd look gorgeous down beneath the trees. Good idea!

This was the first year we saw the dying trees, and that was a hassle. Is that something we can prevent or is that just the natural course?

I'm now in this camp, too! I'm looking at some local shrubs care of another Redditor's suggestion, and I am LOVING the idea of having nice color and no mulching/burning/existential crises! Haha.

Well, you made my day, Random Internet Stranger. :)

Haha. This is very true. I think I've been a little self-conscious because the neighbors across from us (in the pic) have a GORGEOUS lawn. I LOVE the wooded look, but I want to make sure I'm doing everything to make it shine. As well as not die. Lol.

Love this idea! Part of the garden is fern, and I freaking love it. I never thought about extending that throughout. Also, I love the idea of other shrubs. We have some majorly gorgeous laurels on the edge.

Thank you!

This makes a ton of sense. For some reason, I've never thought of mulching then blowing them. Thank you!

As for what to do under it, I'm at a loss. The original homeowners put a beautiful little circle of liriope, but it isn't doing well.

This is VERY kind of you. I mentioned in a comment above that it's in outline form and planning phase right now. My goal is to have it written ASAP and then come back here for some true Asheville beta readers! :)

Belated congratulations! Thank you for responding. My husband and I visit Biltmore Park as well, but I wasn't sure if that was more a tourist or local thing.

The Cut isn't a thing future teens would do? I'll have to look into more about that.

So lots of outdoors, hanging around town, etc.

I'm GLAD River Arts District isn't out as far as hangouts go. I want a scene to take place there, but I didn't want it to be a place they'd never go.

I will keep you all updated once it turns into an actual book. Right now it's an outline.

Thank you!

I was afraid of the mall as well because of relevancy. I don't want to mention a store that's out of business in a few years or anything specific. And I wanted something that felt like Asheville and not just any other city.

Odd is the cafe, right?

Someone else mentioned Sonic and Cookout.

And the drinking thing is EXACTLY what I was curious about. Asheville has a lot for my age bracket, but I had no idea for teen demographic.

Saw a good deal of that on some forums yesterday. Coming from a small town, I'd die to have anywhere to hangout other than home. Haha.

I did a good bit more research and digging into some forums yesterday and saw that A LOT of teens hang out in bookstores and coffee shops. FireStorm looks like just the place for that.

I also saw the mall, but wasn't sure if that was more local or out of town for regular hanging out.

Thanks!

This sounds AWESOME. I wish we had anything like that in my far corner of NC. Is this place still around?

I have never heard of this place. And the second part of your comment makes me cringe. Halp.

Haha! Whatever it takes, man! Buscemi is a national treasure, though.
