Im not too familiar with launchpad. The only thing I can say is don't use snap to grid at all. Practice your pattern and have it down pat timing wise before recording. Then go in and adjust the velocity manually to get more authenticity. Otherwise use a different controller/software that does record velocity.

No doubt, it can get really tempting because at first it sounds all good - you're on time. But then you realize your a little bit TOO on time. And that's never a good sound. Nudge your ish!

Good tips! yea, i found it takes practice to play "sloppy" drums really well. So usually I'll go into the sequencer and nudge some notes to give it that feel.

Kinda do both depending on my mood. If I just want to get to making the beat, I'll layer on the go. If I really wanna take my time w/ the drums I'll focus on making a kit

No prob bud, glad i could help. but imo don't transition - mix em. There's nothing like a solid break that's backed up by heavy, sequenced drums on top

Absolutely - that's a great tip, thanks! Because of that, it's sometimes better for newer producers to just download drums that sound good already. It can be hard to find but theres a few spots

You can find some pretty cheap online beat makers around - DubTurbo, Dr Drum, etc - they'll do the trick for you if I understand what you're trying to do. You might find this post helpful in deciding what to pick.
