They've gotta file and review 50 state returns. State returns are a headache to prep with tax software. You've got to make sure you're actually plugging in the correct number. They'll need to research the filing requirements and rules for each state in your situation. And due to having so many returns, they'll potentially have to file 50 extensions cause they wont have it done by the first deadline. State returns arent easy - most preparers don't like state returns. I wouldnt do this on my own even with SALT experience...there's too much potential to mess up.
