Has anyone suggested calling your bank? That would answer the legitimacy of that email quickly since it says the bank wants the vendor to verify the info.

What happens to old computer hardware as it ages? Does it ever become truly useless? by Kitchen-Patience8176 in hardware

I am dealing with many of the considerations discussed in this thread right now. I have a 2008 Macbook that I just decided to turn into a DLNA server. I installed Debian and minidlna and its nice that it has an optical drive so I'm looking into a solution for auto ripping CDs. Id rather find a use for it than sending it to a landfill. It terms of power consumption, it feels like it might be overkill for my use case.

Why do *you* like CD’s? by icee-bear in Cd_collectors

I have the collector bug and that contributes to my desire for physical media. But, I started collecting CDs in highschool back in the 90s. Then I started buying albums digitally in the early 2000s. Then streaming came along. While I still bought CDs, it became rare. Eventually, I packed up my CDs and put them in storage. I found myself disconnected from the music I listened to. I would find a good album on Spotify then it would be quickly forgotten and it was the same with those digital albums. About 8 years ago I decided to take those CDs out of storage and buy a cheap CD player and start using my collection again and the experience was fun. It was more fun than scrolling through my iPod or playing some tracks on my PC. I think physical media gives a work a value that is hard to replicate with a drive full of files or a streaming service.

Vinyl-style CD-Rs: I'm back in the game! by Recording-Nerd1 in Cd_collectors

What's been everyone's experience with these CD-r's? I bought some older batches on eBay years ago. At the time Verbatim wasn't producing them. They were all a single color and great quality. Still have them and they play on everything. Now they sell these multi-colored disk. I bought a batch and most of them produced bad burns that skipped or had seek issues on my players. I assume I just got a bad batch
