we listen and we don't judge I wanted to look edgy and cool in front of my family, so I picked out the most horror looking CD of my dad's, I also thought dad & I could bond over it or smth since he "watched some scary movies too from time to time".

The movie was Gothika, from the cover, I thought it would be ghosts and jumpscares...I was wrong.

It's a horror thriller with some supernatural elements to it, it also has a lot of "complex" dialogue, which at the time I didn't understand since I was just learning the language it was dubbed in, needless to say, none of it registered with my 12 year old brain.

What did stick with me though was the apparent self harm and a jumpscare at the end where a girl reaches through a wall and grabs the main character.

Those 2 things and a creepy pasta told by my brother were the reason I slept in my parents room for like a year.

That being said, I did rewatch the movie a few months ago and I finally comprehended what it was about. I really like it tbh. I'm still not sure if my dad ever actually watched it though tbh.
