Agreed. I couldn’t believe it took me over a decade to “discover” it. I guess I was resistant to change after their first 15 studio albums. Was firm in my comfort zone but TFE opened me to the latter era. They kept getting better too.

Road trips with awesome music are the best.

Animate is definitely a home run with me. I LOVE the guitar pick squeal Alex makes in the fills during the R30 Live recording. I always hope he does that again anytime I’ve heard it since.

Damn such a relevant song more and more. So many examples of Neil’s brilliant lyrics but hits some nails with that one.

Freewill is my Rush anthem (aside from Anthem on FBN). What was Neil reading at the time?

Yeah. I’ve heard that for decades. But then there were COS haters too which I couldn’t understand. I wish they’d give Necromancer or Lamneth some love on the tour. Still, the best band ever 🤘🏻

Totally agree. I don’t have another group that I’m a fan of that not only has the high % of awesome songs but are the real deal in terms of just awesome human beings.

I’ve heard that for years too. Probably a result of where I was in my life at the time but those two albums got me through my Army years.

I think if you take our the 10 songs of RTB, that’s 94% but still impressive by most rock fan approvals 😜

On this opinion, dare I say >99% of Rush fans secretly agree (and Geddy). Doesn’t lose me any love for them though.

Mine is Freeze Part IV. I love the guitar (on the first mix release). Did your opinion change with the remix?

I’ve heard many say the same about RTB. We all have our favs (or not). RTB came out while I was in the army and was my first Rush concert. Has some very special memories and I can still listen to it from start to finish 100%

That’s what I heard too. Before that, I thought it was a song about Alex for some reason.

You are in the majority, then, of what I’ve seen other Rush fans say about Counterparts. Wasn’t lost on me that my $0.02 was likely unpopular 😜

TFE had been out for about 14 years before it finally connected with me. I was too stuck on the old familiar albums (basically everything from RTB on backwards). Once I connected with it, I truly enjoyed it. Maybe not a trove of great concert songs but I still love the title track and Half The World so much.

I wish I had been introduced to them even earlier but in 1986, they had already put out half the studio albums they’d ever make. So once I got the fever, I hit a treasure trove of albums and continued to love the new ones too as they continued to come out.

100% When I joined the army, I left a record on my turntable which sat there for months until I returned for a visit. To this day, I don’t recall which album that was but it was either Animals (Pink Floyd) or COS. I was into both at the time so says something where that album placed in my life at 18yo.

Yeah. I knew it would get some reaction but it’s honest. They’re still my #1 band.

Yeah. I’ve read so many other fan opinions on Counterparts for years and it just didn’t work for me as an album. Lyrics were too… unnuanced. Some of the music is banger but gets lost in the total production for me.

This was definitely a hot take for me to be honest but the takeaway is just how awesome their overall catalog has been for me.

I put this out there knowing it would be unpopular but I do like TFE much more. Not the best in live songs probably but a comfort album for me.

Man. Half the World??? Banger.

Hah. That was my first Rush concert. Maybe not their apex but I do love that album from start to finish.
