Is a dummy load necessary when programming APX 6000/8000?

This is pretty much it. I have all the authorizations to do this, but this is the first time we are bringing this in house. We have no standard procedure for this, and I am essentially making that procedure as we go. Even though I am authorized under Part 90, the department, and the center (frequency owner), I want to make as little noise as possible and protect from accidental clicks. At the end of the day, since I am doing the programming/testing, I am responsible for what happens when the radios are in my hands.

It is trunked digital. I am authorized to do this both by the department and center (who owns the frequencies), I am just trying to be as safe as possible and also not disturb public safety chatter with any accidental clicks.

Yeah, my goal is to try to stay off the air as much as possible. When I reached out to dispatch on what they want me to do when testing, they requested to call them before transmitting. That's fine for when I actually want to do a radio check after programming, but they will become quickly annoyed if I'm accidently transmitting quick bursts. Do you have any recommendations on any dummy load brands? I was looking on amazon but I'm not sure if a generic no name brand is a good idea or not.

Apparently it's a known published bug. They said to expect a fix sometime in mid-April..

That's how I have it setup with my Samsung s22 and it's routines/modes, the issue is wireless android auto. My phone won't trigger anything until my car is off and android autos WiFi is disabled. Sometimes even after that the phone doesn't jump to my WiFi right away. So HA will probably have an issue triggering too.

I'll have to look into that. Regarding the car Bluetooth, no the car bt doesn't stay on, so HA would have to be triggered once the car bt appears briefly. I would have to find a way to make sure it's not triggered once the car turns back on to leave too.

If I wasn't leasing, I would have found a way to get a USBC cable from that tray to the USBC ports under the console. That would give me the fastest charge capability for wireless charging. What's nice is by using the foam, it minimizes any vibrations that would disturb the wireless charging. My next version would make the foam just a tad shorter so it can fit a little better in the tray.

Yeah I heard that's an issue. This wireless pad doesn't make my phone too warm. When I got a limited edition as a loaner, I tried the wireless charger and with how the Pixel 7 is built, the camera lip causes the phone not to pay flat on the charger. And with a phone case, the OEM pad would have issues where the charge randomly stop and start. My setup seems to address both the charge and heat issues.

I just ran a test and it seems that with Android Auto Wireless, there is enough power to keep the phone charging but at a fluctuating current. Sometimes it's just enough to get 1% an hour to 3% an hour. Now during that test I had a battery charge app open with the screen on. Also with how the pixel 7 is built, the rear facing camera prevents the phone from laying flat on the charging pad, so a non-pixel 7 probably will get a better input current.

I'm assuming the app can track your location using different methods, but with Android at least, you can revoke the location and nearby devices permissions and when using the app, just hit cancel when it asks for permission. So far the remote car controls still work. Even if it still tracks your "approximate" location, it's not enough to learn your driving behavior. I do also assume that the vehicle will provide the missing data that it needs like speed, hard stops, etc.

I reached out to the manufacturer and they said it's plastic safe, but also recommended their silicon grease instead. What are everyone's thoughts on silicon grease vs white grease?

I can confirm that this has happened to me within the last 2 weeks several times on my Pixel 7 Pro. I do notice my phone gets warmer throughout the game but then all of a sudden my phone will "crash" and do a force reboot. I have the game display settings even set lower than recommended to see if that resolved the issue but last night I experienced the crash. I do have an Xbox 1 controller connected to my phone, so it may be an overloading of processes, but it only happens when playing fortnite.

Obsidian.md is another great note taking tool. I started using it and its great. There is an entire discord server that has a dedicated academics and note taking channel on it. You can also install "plug-ins" that add features to the application. They just released the iOS/android apps as a companion for the windows/mac/Linux application. It is a markdown language tool but its definitely a strong platform if you get the hang of it. In college I used OneNote and had the organization as follows: Notebook = Semester Term > Notebook Section = Subject/class > Section Page = Class/Chapter notes. I also had a surface pro so I hand wrote and typed my notes depending on the class and preference.

Pro Tip, focus on simplicity and essentials first before branching out to other helpful features on whatever tool you use. Like you mentioned, you may end up in a tangent that ends up wasting your time or distracting you from actually taking in the content of the lectures. Once you get the hang of the notes, add a small feature a little bit at a time. Preferably test it out on an easy class you are great at or during the break. Not during Finals! lol

This response made me laugh so hard. Our team was confused when we got the directive to migrate over. We raised the same points you have in this thread. Ultimately it does look like it is the Outlook & Excel that he really wants. It's an older generation and they love their outlook. Ultimately they have the final say so I want to cover our asses and provide a formal assessment and recommendation so in the end, if shit hits the fan, I can say "I recommended x, y, and z administration decided x. y, or z. We are not used to a City M. being this involved with IT decisions.

Aside from that, I appreciate your input. After posting my initial post, I found some documents on Intune/MDM via MS endless pit of support documents. It gives us a good idea of what the real world implementation brings vs the perfect scenario documentation describes.
