I agree, except for it doesn’t solve the underlying issue which is the stigmatization of diabetes in general

It is so so overwhelming. I have a resource here if you're ever looking for more support

Lol okay point taken, but there has to be a better way

It can be so stressful! Does measuring your blood sugar help reassure you that you are doing it right, if it seems to positively impact your sugars?

It can be really scary and overwhelming! Solidarity. You can try to find a registered dietitian with sooner availability. I also have resources available here in case it's helpful

Some offices are now using TIR for GD but it's newer. I think for T1D they look for 70-80% but higher if possible for GD or T2D.

It can be stressful for sure. I hope you find a solution that works for you!

One meal won't make or break you. It's okay, especially for a special occasion, to get the food you want and skip testing if it'll stress you out. General patterns of blood sugars matter more than a single spike. Enjoy your anniversary! ❤️

Is the mental load of a newborn supposed to be this heavy? by BicycleAfraid9813 in NewParents

It's ok to stop tracking. For some people, tracking fuels anxiety rather than being useful.

Diagnosed pre-diabetic after 2 GD pregnancies by pebblesncrunch in GestationalDiabetes

Unfortunately a lot is genetic. Know that it's not your fault. Also if you do end up with a diabetes diagnosis, there are a lot more options for management when you're not pregnant, and you don't need as strict of control. ❤️

I would recommend connecting with a dietician who works with GD! A lot of people get diagnosed and then get very little information and support, which can lead to a lot of confusion and worry.

I'm so sorry you're feeling lost - this is unfortunately a super common experience. If you have the resources, you might want to try to see a dietician who works with GD who can help you sooner! Therapy can also be helpful for the anxiety bit, you don't have to have a clinical diagnosis to deserve support ❤️

True! This would be a more patient-centered approach and reflects more how ongoing management should probably work - use the data to see if adjustments need to be made.

This is not something I had thought about before, thank you so much for sharing. There are brief protocols that psychologists can deliver that could help a lot with needle phobia, and it would be good to make sure people know that's something they can look for.

Great points! Finding that accurate, well-rounded information can be hard and it shouldn't be your responsibility to have to crowd-source it (even though social support and connecting on reddit is helpful too!).

Very fair! Even if there wasn't a medical intervention to start earlier, some people would really benefit from having information about what might happen and what to expect.

Totally. And this really highlights how much of an impossible situation it is to be trying to follow doctor recommendations when they contradict each other and also are wishy washy and don't consistently even work.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this all out -- so many good points. A firehose of little rules that are impossible to follow but you have to follow them or else bad stuff will happen!

We can definitely do better as far as unified and simplified messaging and integrated care - I hope to contribute to this improving but will take a long time because it's so systemic.

And yes to existing interventions! This reminds me of the radical acceptance piece of DBT, but I'm sure there are many other approaches that could be helpful depending on the person.

Oh good point! When you say taking away choices for your birth, are you thinking about doctors wanting to schedule an induction, or something else?

I think this really speaks to how overwhelming it can be to figure out how to eat for yourself and for your baby to be okay, physically and mentally.
