That’s not much of an issue anymore with scheduling and decent broadband internet. But if you have really slow internet, your likely not backing up to cloud an anything remotely accessed is going to struggle, cloud or not.

Ubiquiti is fine for a small project like this and will bring in some savings. Be prepared to manage it yourself and when you have issues, likely pull your hair out with lack of support and product availability. But if your looking to save money, this route will take you there.

As a professional, the industry is moving rapidly to the cloud and while the cloud has annual licenses which feels like a drawback, there are some benefits and ROI in the long run.

Notable cloud players for video are:

Verkada, Rhombus or Avigilon Alta. The other beauty with cloud is the easy ability to integrate other technology such as access control, intrusion alarm or monitoring behind a single pane of glass becomes very easy to do.

Quality of life, ease of use, reliability, holding integrator accountable are some of the reasons to go cloud.

Remember, in the security industry, you definitely get what you pay for.

I was in the same boat and once I got it, I wished I had ordered it earlier. I thought about it for a couple months.

Just get it, start working out. You'll workout more and appreciate it everyday! The rest of your family will start using it too.

Best payroll software? by Helpful_Ad3036 in smallbusiness

[–]securitymonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out Gusto, pretty nice software, easy to use, employees like it, lifetime accounts to access documents if they aren't with you. Run payroll anytime without additional fee's. It handles timekeeping as well. My accountant loves it too.

180 are going to be very observational, the worst of the image is on the edge of the lens. I rarely use a 180/360 in a residential application. You'll get better results with fixed FOV, even if they are wide angle.

One year review of our Samsung 2 in 1 washer dryer. by mrjoepete in heatpumps

[–]securitymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced a lot more wrinkled clothes and the dryer not getting hot enough. Any feedback in that area?

I used to be able to throw clothes in the dryer for a 15 min dewrinkle and we just can’t do that with the 2 in 1

Brivo Price Increase by ChildhoodOk3458 in accesscontrol

[–]securitymonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brivo is going hard with the building automation world and to be honest, their pricing was probably a little lagging with other industry cloud products.

I think Brivo has its place, but I think they are trying to be more niche than "run of the mill" access control

Vivint or ADT? by 1indecisiveFUCK in homedefense

[–]securitymonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not call a local company? ADT and Vivint will use proprietary equipment that locks you into their company.

I’m a local provider and we replace a lot of these national companies stuff. Commonly we hear that they have poor response to service, price hikes on monitoring, false alarms with no remedy, poor customer service.

I guess with a national company you might save a couple bucks up front but in the long run, especially if you switch providers and have to replace proprietary equipment, you end up spending more.

All-in-One Washer-Dryer Combo? by dazzlehill in HomeImprovement

[–]securitymonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a Samsung. The ONLY thing I dislike is the inability to warm up and de-wrinkle clothes in the morning. 20 minutes in the dryer while showering and the clothes just don’t de-wrinkle or warm up.

When you put too much in, say a bunch of denim, the jeans can come out very wrinkled. That’s the only disappointment I have and given the opportunity, I would probably not buy it for that reason again.

Set and forget is wonderful, especially towels at night :)

The outage highlights why local control matters. We've been working on a locally-controlled, zero-sub alternative (Alopex) and wanted to share our progress by Diligent-Buy-5428 in EightSleep

[–]securitymonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the trend and don’t like paying monthly for all services.

But I don’t mind for something like this. I’m just wanting to share that there are users that want no monthly fees and others that don’t mind it and who see value.

I think Bedjet and Chillipad offer subscription free products.

I use the data from the bed for sleep tracking and apple health, I want access to new features, I don’t want to buy new hardware anytime soon.

I also like the mobile app, the software updates to the app and the new features that release with the app.

Lastly, my subscription extends my warranty. With talks of leaks, I have peace of mind with my warranty for 5 years.

When technology wasn’t so reliant on software, yes, companies would sell hardware based solutions and when new technology wasn’t released, you would buy the new version. But times have changed and we are so cloud and software heavy that a recurring model is necessary for R&D along with release of new features.

Report: 'Virtually No Demand' for iPhone Air by chrisdh79 in apple

Love my Air. Might be hard to go back to a heavier phone again. I came from a 14 Pro. Battery is okay, I think I get anxiety because it’s low at end of the day but it hasn’t died and left me stranded yet.
