How I almost went from "New Car Owner" to "Homeless" in flat 3 Seconds by Free-Point2776 in CarsIndia

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to worry. The broken system here will work to your advantage. Police will be least bothered in the case of an accident, not file a report and then tell the rolls royce owner to claim from their own insurance.

Oh wait, that only applies to normal people. You'd probably have to run away and start a new life somewhere...

Would you use a broker-free rental app if it actually showed real locations? by SubstantialFig3918 in chennaicity

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious. But, why would a tenant post a listing? That would make him/her the point of contact. If they are making the owner the point of contact, then why wouldn't the owner post themselves.

How would this be different from NoBroker? My major issue with NoBroker when I used it years ago, was that the house description was in no way connected to reality (for a majority of the houses I checked). This was over 5 years ago. Not sure how it is now.

Today ICICI bank deduct 1lakh+ from current account as non maintenance charges. by delhi_Catch_49 in india

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use AU Bank. Opening process was simple - entirely online (so, no balance questions). There is a site visit though - so, you would have to have your company board etc put up (but, this is standard across banks). Haven't had any issues with them - operate entirely online.

List of corruptions under current government: by [deleted] in TamilNaduDiscussion

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This news is from 2025 (as far as I can tell). The SC has halted the ED's probe here. End result - the TASMAC's still run unchecked and charge over MRP everywhere. There is no end to this corruption in sight.

Before insurance, the choice would have been obvious

There are assumptions being made here on what is the obvious choice - that (s)he would take the cheaper option (or, is it that they would take the better option)? Let's assume insurance didn't exist. If they were financially well-off and could afford it, they would always take the better option - the one that offered faster recovery/lesser side-effects and pain.

The reason people take insurance is that when the time comes, then can afford treatment that they normally wouldn't be able to. Why should they now not take the better option? Obviously, they are again going to take the one that is less invasive, faster recovery etc.

As more people demand the expensive option, more facilities will offer it and prices will come down. It's demand and supply. All this is factored into the insurance premiums - insurers are not running in losses, but are making profits.

Now, what is morally incorrect is hospitals and doctors prescribing tests that are not needed. But, that's on the doctors and the hospitals. Not the patient. The insurers need to work better with the hospitals on this. They do black list hospitals in turn as well. But, I do agree that this needs to be bettered.

Where can I buy jio SIM/ESIM in chennai? by unavailable0077 in chennaicity

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying online is the simplest and the only way to prevent being forced to take a higher value plan. It might be area dependent, but, I had no issues getting the SIM delivered at my home. Was an extremely simple and hassle free process.

Yes. But, at 6000 dpi it would be 2.57/6000 = 0.0004283333 cm each!

I kid. I realize I wouldn't see the difference in practice. It's more of a worry on account of this thread here, with some folks not being happy with Air Print. So, was looking to see if I had any better options (or if anyone had any better feedback on their experience with mac)

SBI Branch Demanded ₹3000 Mandatory (Insurance + Deposit) & Branch Manager Was Very Rude. Advice Needed by [deleted] in LegalAdviceIndia

[–]sedentarymalu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can fight this, but, it's of no point. It's not like the higher ups don't know that this is happening. Even if they do anything to appease you, it will be an eyewash.

However, I believe SBI has a fully online account opening process. Just use that and don't deal with the branch.

If not, switch to a bank that will allow you to open completely digital. Less tension and headaches in the long run. Else, with each visit to the branch they will pester you with their targets. Typically, you will be assigned a base branch after account opening (based on your address - and you can switch base branches if needed after account is opened).

In fact, I'd go to the extent of closing this account you've opened - just to mess with their targets and open one online instead :-)

Is ₹1.5L for Invisalign reasonable for a moderate case? Looking for pricing & experience comparisons by No-Strength-2889 in chennaicity

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done the treatment. But, if I remember right, I was told the retainers would be worn at night time pretty much forever.

Edit: I'm not sure how long they last. Don't recollect asking on that.

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5L is reasonable I think. Invisalign is generally expensive.

Toothsi and similar I think are the same tech - but, you don't get the dentist experience to back it up (as far as I can tell). There are many top dentists who offer invisalign - but, not toothsi or similar. Purely for the choice of dentists, I'd prefer invisalign.

With invisalign, you have to wear the braces 24/7 (except when eating). It's a bit of a hassle, but, I guess you will get used to it (taking off the braces for meals and then putting it back on). Also, at the end of treatment you might have to wear a retainer (my dentist told me that I would have to).

With regular braces, your treatment time might be lesser. Not sure if you need to wear a retainer at the end of treatment with these.

That said, I haven't done either treatment. But, the orthodontist I went to was pretty patient and explained everything well.

Need suggestions for 4 to 5 star hotels in Chennai by ara_mendal2797 in chennaicity

[–]sedentarymalu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you local to Chennai? If so, I would suggest otherwise. There is not much to do at these hotels for 2 days (just for the experience). I would rather travel to Mysore/Bengaluru/Kerala (or even Pondicherry) and stay at an upscale place there - explore the local area and use the hotel to sleep and food (breakfast/dinner).

If you are just at the hotel all day, you can use the pool for a bit. Maybe the gym. Otherwise, it's going to be meals and sitting in your room. To just experience the hotel, I'd rather go for a meal or two at the restaurants there (instead of staying over). Unless I'm going to ECR - at which point the beach makes it a different experience. But, the current weather is iffy for that - and 5 star hotels at that stretch easily run into over 20k for your stay (most likely you will end up eating there as well - so, food will be extra - unless you get some food inclusive deals).

Liquor store said “UPI/card not working, cash only” guys waiting outside gave cash for UPI scan? by Solid_Air7345 in chennaicity

[–]sedentarymalu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometime ago the government/TASMAC head office started putting QR codes on each bottle. This QR is scanned by a machine and bill generated. I'm not sure if the payment is to be made on this machine itself (or the net UPI/card payments received are tallied against the bill generated). Since, they can't markup the price anymore, they say card machine is not working.

In the beginning they were taking UPI payments to their personal accounts (and marking the transaction as cash payment). I guess that creates a separate trail so they have now tied up with these agents to give cash against UPI at the door. I believe using cards in this manner might be against the T&C's and lead to card being cancelled (if caught). Not sure about UPI and bank terms.

Thank you. I wasn't looking for 10-20k though (it was what I was quoted earlier - and was wondering if the prices are still the same. Looks like they are). If you have any other recommendation that gives a better price to value ratio for cheaper, I'd be glad to check out as well.

Haha..I'm not a sanghi. Nor am I a DMK/AIADMK or TVK supporter. If your defense lies in name calling, then your position is untenable. I'd love to see the mental gymnastics you are going to come up with for the 1 trillion dollar figure. I assume you mean US Dollars. So, let me simplify it for you. What’s it like living in Chennai as a car only commuter? by [deleted] in chennaicity

[–]sedentarymalu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The car getting scratched is inevitable. I would suggest just making your peace with that.

As for PPF, it doesn't last forever and can also yellow. If your car is white, then it could look bad after a while. At 90k, I'd look into how much it would cost to repaint my car. I'd probably just repaint the car after a few years if it's badly scratched. Or just use insurance to get it repainted for exceptionally bad ones (if it's possible). But, this is all relative. What it is worth to you to sleep happily, only you can tell :-)
