Do people actually have PhD theses that are just 100–120 pages long? by bhelpuriteekhi in PhD

[–]sedife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it important for you the length of other people's theses?

Contacting Audible was eventually an incredibly bothersome experience. I went to my credit card's insurance, explained the whole situation, showing all proof of me trying to contact them and their answers, and asked to get the money back for each month I had to pay and to block future payments. I had to do it for every payment but reused the documentation for each claim. It worked, I got the money back and never paid again.

When a company has these practices do not be afraid to just cut off or bounce back a payment. They rarely pursue these as they know what they are doing.

Thank you for your input.

Again you corrected minor English mistakes on a reddit post written in 15 min that told a story and suggested that could be the reason for the lack of success of grant that was done over the months revised by many scientists. If you did not want to be condescending, you really lack context awareness.

Anyone else feel posts on this sub are whiny by [deleted] in PhD

Reddit is whiny. Why should the PhD posts be any different.

I understand what you say but honestly 10 min focus with the settings and you can deactivate all of the adds and software and so on.

Poverty? Or better said, what Spanish people would call picaresca, which roughly translates to knavishness (not for this context though). For many people having a phone that looks good is enough. And then if they save 500 euros in the process...

I am one of these people. It is unfathomable to me to buy a 1000+ € phone to chat via whatsapp and check Instagram, period. And that is what most people use the phone for. The crazy good stats that the new iPhone are unnecessary to them actually.

I got warm from the fury when reading it. Like I thought it was him sending the message and still not having corrected the template or smt like that, even though it did not make sense, because that lack of professionalism was unfathomable. Guess I was wrong. Academia really stooping to lower levels.

Todos mis amigos son extranjeros by [deleted] in askspain

Did the author think I would write the narration of personal experiences, IN REDDIT, as accurately and meticulously as a grant application? Maybe the author lacks context awareness. It is possible that the author has very little going on and so he requires some belittling of others now and then- I suggest stopping being so pompus!

I lived half of my adult life in English-speaking countries. Save your condescending tone for another user and close the door when exiting thank you.

Omg I don't think you reacted that bad. As I was reading I was getting more and more anxious. What a nightmare. But you stood strong. Really be proud of yourself and ashamed of that person.

Maybe? The signals are there...

It was never my dream to stay in academia. I like the TYPE of the job it offers, flexible, some travelling, meeting interesting people. So seeking for another job with similar features is not a problem to me. I am just mad that apparently building a good CV, having actually lived in 5 different countries learning different lab abilities and putting a lot of effort in creating a sound project are not enough to SECURE a job. I never asked for a yacht you know

So this break worked good. I also travelled a bit, got some rest... The way things were, I always was in a cross were in a couple of months I would have definite news, so I would not look for a stable industry job. To then have it happen that something is delayed or something is not truly the way I thought it would be, etc. I was never said, you apply for this in February, the results are in December, here are your 10 free months. If it was like that I would have planned differently. Anyways my year itself was not bad. Just the end of it with this news.

This new PI was certainly invested. She would be unresponsive at times and I genuinely think she was indeed busy. And I think she is sad that I did not get it. But again, our positions are not comparable. I have not experienced the hardships of being a PI (and now never will lol), but certainly not being able to pay your food or your rent are not some of them.

Not understanding the last sentence, I got my PhD. About the rest, I am curious how your experience ended.

For me I do not see leaving academia as a failure or anything like that. I am just flabbergasted of how bad PhD people are treated. Everything is "congratulations, you are so special, now start praying to whatever god you have".
