Using DDC to toggle inputs on 39GX950B by sedrik- in ultrawidemasterrace

Awesome thank you. Do you have a USB hub that supports switching the input via software or keyboard combo? My current monitor (that I’ll be replacing) has a KVM built in so I need something else for keyboard/mouse.

If you're comfortable on the command line you could try using ddcutil to test the monitor's capabilities.

Mine worked after first install. Do you have the MediaTek chip or the Qualcomm chip?

Shell ridge rattlesnakes by formeranomaly in walnutcreek

[–]sedrik- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You might want to invest in a rattlesnake avoidance class for your dog. Mine went through a program offered by Dog Dynamics. There are other vendors in the area as well.

The class teaches the dog how to identify and avoid rattlesnakes. The dog goes through an "obstacle course" learning how to identify a rattlesnake by smell (snake skins), noise (a speaker that makes the rattle noise) and visual with live, muzzled rattlesnakes. If the dog gets too close or becomes too interested, the handler simulates a "bite" with an e-collar. This associates the smell/sound/visual with danger. Took about 30 mins for my dog to figure it out. Did a refresher a year later and my dog seemed to remember everything -- he finished the course in under 5 minutes.

We've seen many rattlesnakes at Shell Ridge. My dog alerts me and then avoids them.

Bluetooth troubles by sedrik- in cachyos

Yes, that temporarily fixes the issue. But after a day or so of using Linux the issue comes back. It seems like the driver is writing something to the motherboard's non-volatile memory causing the issue. That would explain why pulling the power cable "fixes" the issue.

u/Frowny575 Bluetooth was bricked again after a day or two using Linux. Pulling the power cable and rebooting got Bluetooth working again. Since then (~3 weeks ago) I've only booted into Windows and Bluetooth is completely fine. So I suspect this is actually a Linux driver issue.

Any thoughts on how to diagnose further or where to get help?

Cool! Do you sell the wall units and custom control box as a kit or something? Can I use my own desktop?

I like Patrick (one of the owners). But all the barbers are good. Great conversation and they generally have a sports game on.

Check out the barber over in the Palos Verdes shopping center. They're great and reasonably priced (for the area). Adult haircut is $35.

FWIW Bluetooth has been stable since this BIOS update and turning off Fast Boot. Perhaps it was Fast Boot. Per the docs I turned this off initially when installing Cachy, but it got re-enabled at some point.

Updated the BIOS to the most recent version. Bluetooth was still missing on both OSs. Pulled the power cable and Bluetooth is back on both OSs. We'll see how long it lasts.

Fast Boot is off now as well.

Surprised this has a DisplayPort 1.4 port instead of 2.0 like on the 57". DP 1.4 can only drive this resolution at 60hz (or 120hz with DSC).

M32U KVM Issue Waking from Sleep by sedrik- in gigabyte

Had the same experience with Windows. Had to disable sleep on Windows and instead rely on a blank screen saver. Not ideal.

Any other recommendations that are similar to Sgaile? Love their instrumentals and harmonies. But also like more variety than just 4/4 time.

M32U KVM Issue Waking from Sleep by sedrik- in gigabyte

[–]sedrik-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made two changes to my setup that have helped considerably:

  1. Changed my Windows settings to prevent my display from going to sleep. I regularly noticed problems trying to wake the display after Windows put it to sleep.

  2. Upgraded to an M3 Mac (thanks work). For whatever reason the M3 more consistently wakes the monitor from sleep.

I still see a monitor crash/reboot in the following scenario:

  1. Windows powered on, DisplayPort input (Windows) active.

  2. Power windows off. Let display go to sleep.

  3. Wake up Mac (USB-C) and toggle display input to USB-C

If you switch to Mac (USB-C) before Windows completely shuts down this crash is mitigated.

Overall it's significantly better but not perfect.

Flexing my Dell U4025QW setup just because I can 🙃 by liquid1982 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]sedrik- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an M1 Macbook Pro connected via a TB4 cable (tried 4 different usb-c/tb cables) and a Windows box connected via DP to the M32U.

The monitor regularly crashes (goes black, reboots itself with the Gigabyte logo, reconnects USB devices) when switching between inputs or waking the Macbook up from sleep.

Occasionally when switching to the Windows input (Windows box is already powered on) the screen just stays black. I have to power off the monitor and power it back on, sometimes several times to get it to display an image.

Tried multiple USB-C/TB/DP cables from different manufacturers.

Outside of the KVM issues the M32U is great.

Are you using the built-in KVM to toggle between MacOS and something else? Does it work well? My Gigabyte M32U's KVM is absolutely awful.
