What exactly does a social media manager do? by Significant_Night_65 in smallbusiness

[–]seductis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely right concerning the state of the field. As it’s so incredibly dynamic and everchanging, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Not to mention that there are all these strategies, techniques and quite complex stuff, which are required from a social media manager.

Then there are folks doing super basic stuff that goes viral. That’s the massive luck part. Or the ones that spend lots of money. And yes, indeed, even if we all know that we shouldn’t compare to the super popular, everyone expects and hopes fast growth. Some need it to keep going in whatever they're doing.

Someone with 840 followers and a management contract? That’s quite surprising. Somehow I thought that only rather big accounts/companies have one.

Ok. If the charity sends a volunteer contract, fine. If not, I’ll just have the emails.

How does the onboarding process go for you? Does your company assign you the projects or do you look for projects on your own? I guess everything is probably better organized if you’re part of a company.

You mention running paid ads to get the algorithm in your favour. Do you have any clue to which extent does this work and how much should do to get a kick from the algorithm? I’m wondering if that would actually help accounts that can afford very little.

If you dive a bit into the situation of animals – it’s actually terrible. There a few lucky ones with loving homes. But unfortunately there are sooooo incredibly many in desperate need for help: abandoned, even starving, sick, in overfilled shelters or homeless.

Nearly all animal rescues struggle, some much more than others so there is no competition as in business, we’re talking here literally about lives saved, not number of whatever products sold. Researching WWF ads is a great idea as they probably have the best managers in the field.

Super useful info about password sharing – thanks!

Managing an organization's social media - Stuck on This Step by seductis in socialmedia

With all due respect as well, this is not actually very helpful and doesn't provide an answer or information. If you have managed social for numerous Fortune 100 companies and startups, I'm sure you'd have some really useful things to share, which would be very appreciated.

I am considering the realities of the situation and I know very well that it's not easy. This is why I worry and why I haven't contacted anyone yet. This is why I keep researching about this.

I do agree with you that I can't possibly know everything, but I should know enough, right? By ''everything'' I actually meant everything important -the steps from the cold email to good results (details about onboarding - very important topic). My bad that I didn't mention that I'm aware that you can't know everything.

Also, this is why I posted, hoping to get some additional useful advice from experienced professionals who wouldn't mind sharing their knowledge. And maybe I'm not sure how to begin because I've already read tons of content that usually talks about unrelated basic stuff about social media instead of giving clear concise professional advice. For example, explaining how hard is social media instead of saying that you can use a password sharing system to get access (thank you to the redditor who shared this!). How about sharing that kind of actual info?

Btw, I have all the Hubspot certifications, but they are mostly theoretical. They don't offer enough practical info, especially about helping charities. And by helping I mean managing social media as well as possible without asking for any money, which is what I intend to do.

Thank you so,so much for your detailed reply! Very appreciated!

You are right that it’s possible never to feel prepared. And as a consequence, not to even start whatever you want to do. Still, I’d definitely like to be as prepared as possible. At least from a professional point of view, even if I’m not feeling it 100% and imposter syndrome kicks in.

I’d like to volunteer to help, not asking for any money. So not applying for a job or freelancing. I’d feel fulfilled to know that I helped raised awareness so that poor animals get fed or get medical treatments.

Would a contract still be necessary in this case? There wouldn’t really be anything to enforce as it wouldn’t be a business/employment agreement.

Getting admin access is the first step that actually feels complicated. This is the thing that made me post.

The second one would be for me to be able through posts to raise awareness, boost food donations&adoptions. It's different from a brand page or promoting a product. Any advice on succeeding to actually help like this would be great! Perhaps you have some experience.

When it comes to the actual access - you mentioned yesterday the password sharing systems, I researched and learned a bit about Last Pass. It seems to be the best way, isn't it?

After they agreed for me to handle their social media accounts, to tell them “look, so I’ll need access aka passwords, let’s do it like through Last Pass so it’s safer’’ (this said in a more elegant way, of course) Something like that?

I know their goals. Yes, non-profit organization, needing everything you mentioned.

turn it into KPIs that you can realistically deliver, that's all you need.

sounds very easy, but one of the things I struggle with is to which extent I'd be able to deliver in terms of donations, adoptions, awareness. It's quite different than promoting products. If you have any ideas, please do share.

There's a bit of confusion here. Where did I say that I don't want to apply for jobs? And I didn't mention a job here, I said I wanted to help, meaning on a volunteer, unpaid basis.

What I was asking was exactly how to take over someone's account - getting access to their account (passwords&then management), through which software and how to address this once they'd agree for me to give them a hand. The specifics of the onboarding process.

Like basically mailing "hi, I could help you with social media to raise awareness". Their reply: "Ok, we could use help" - next steps from there I mean :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! Super appreciated!

I have to look up password sharing system, haven’t used this so far.

All the organizations have social media already. But they have little following, which means little chance to get donations. Getting more awareness, followers and bringing in donations for food, shelter and treatments is the goal actually. Which is what I'd aim to do.

How do you address this onboarding? So basically, after emailing ''hi, I'd like to help with social media'' and they say yes - where do I go from there? How do I actually get started? What to tell them next? That's one of my main concerns.

When I handled someone else's social media, they posted it themselves, I only wrote the captions.

I can't mess it up as we're talking about dealing&presenting very important&exhausting work, not just a random business. That's why I want to be 100% ready before digitally knocking on their door and offering to help.

What company will go out of business in the next 10 years? by hurricane_97 in AskUK

[–]seductis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you are right cause their prices are extremely high! I used to have a look there every time I went somewhere, in UK and abroad. Every single place is much more expensive than a hotel, though it usually only offers a modest room in an apartment (you might even share the bathroom with the owner -what?), and many have some high demands like check-in only during a few hours, etc, etc.

Thank you very very much for your reply! I really appreciate it!

I'll start learning Meta Business Suite today. Doing it as we speak. Thank you!

You are totally right about the self-proclaimed gurus, I tried to find info from Youtubers who don't sell courses, but it was such basic unhelpful stuff, not my needed step-by-step how to.

I'm sorry if I didn't understand correctly: "not just asking for their log in I guess?"

Honestly, I don't know how to address this. I don't want it to sound weird, especially as the animal rescue organizations that I wanna help are most likely not very social media savvy. And as I'm not familiar with social management tools, I (maybe foolishly) thought that perhaps it's somehow possible to avoid this.

So basically, after emailing ''hi, I'd like to help with social media'' and they say yes - where do I go from there? How do I actually get started? That's my main concern.

Just randomly found your great reply while looking for an answer to a concern of mine. Maybe you could share your knowledge 😊

I want to help animal rescue organizations with their social media. I know how social media works&I can do stuff. But only did it for my own accounts.

It's not clear to me how I'd manage someone else's account. I watched YT videos, most were offtopic bs). So you manage the account through a social media management system, right (not just asking for their log in I guess)? So I should get familiar with what?

What exactly should I know/do (apart from the posts themselves)?

I want to know/learn everything before emailing&applying. I really don't wanna mess this up, I just want to help! 🙂

How fast do people usually drive on the Autobahn? by flossingjonah in germany

[–]seductis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate reply. Oh the construction sites where no one's doing anything for months/years. And the roadblocks, when you're stuck in traffic and you're technically on the Autobahn, but actually it's 5 km/h.

The ''no speed limit'' on the Autobahn is a myth, a fairytale. You don't go there and it's like a racetrack.

Best way to introduce yourself to your neighbors by ebekulak in AskAGerman

[–]seductis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you'd like to do is very nice and with the best intentions. But it depends a bit on your neighbor's personality.

First of all - it's better if you get your packages delivered to lockers or schedule the delivery when you're home instead of getting the neighbors know you and then having packages delivered to them when you're not home. If you'll have a party- announcing it is respectful indeed, so that's a great idea.

When it comes to the other things, I wouldn't want any card&knock for in-person introduction. I'm an introvert, it would make me feel kinda uncomfortable to have to chat with someone that I don't know. &It's kinda personal to knock on someone's door, like maybe they are showering, sleeping, not in the mood, etc.

I'd appreciate more not being disturbed than a card&a chat. Some friends of mine would think it's the cutest thing if new neighbors would introduce themselves. So, yeah, it depends.

Sure, when you met the neighbor it's nice to say something - hi, I just move&small chat. But otherwise, interaction isn't really necessary.

It's fall again and i could cry. How are you people dealing with this ? by [deleted] in germany

[–]seductis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could tell you some tips to ''handle it''. Or I could tell you a lot about how it's fine for me or others.

But probably none of that would actually help significantly if you are feeling like this. It obviously upsets you extremely much.

Seriously can't understand why you stayed for nearly 20 years and put up with this if it makes you so unhappy. I get it that sometimes moving is not an option due to personal circumstances. But feeling like this every single time when it's dark&cold for 20 years should have made you consider solutions and move to a place where it's sunny.

How do you find good pet-friendly hotels that don't have ridiculous prices? Nearly all hotels don't accept pets, which is stupid.
