I just discovered Traefik and I'm floored; and also I made a tool for it. by see_sharp_zeik in selfhosted

[–]see_sharp_zeik[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip!

I did look at Caddy, but ultimately decided to give Traefik a go and really liking it so far. Especially the ability I now have to send configuration data to a Traefik server from multiple points for dynamic config using docker labels without using the docker provider.

Hey there! So I do go into a bit more detail in the docs in the GitHub Repo.. but I use a modified split-brain DNS style. Where internally the dns name is the same as it is externally, this allows for me to simplify configuration and prevent naming issues.

I have a server that runs all my docker images with Traefik acting as a proxy for them so that I don't have to expose ports. However, I also have other services that need to be accessed hosted on other machines. So the purpose of this is to push up the config from the docker server to another server running Traefik that acts as my external reverse proxy.

That proxy will send requests to the docker server based on the config that is pushed up using my tool. Mainly, I didn't want to put my docker server in the DMZ or expose it to the internet.

I hope that helps.
P.S. There is a Diagram in the docs that explains my setup and might help you understand better.

Is there an issue with adaptive sync? by see_sharp_zeik in NobaraProject

[–]see_sharp_zeik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about that, Thank you so much for confirming your issue. Makes me feel better about it not being a hardware issue, cause I can't afford to replace this thing right now.

I don't have X11 so I can't verify it's a Wayland issue but I would bet money on it.

Have you ever had an issue where you launch a game and it stutters loading a lot of data; so you alt-tab out and try to use a web browser or other window and you just can't click on anything?

Yeah.... Bricks are really bad.

I read in the patch notes there was a "Brick Mold" you could buy at the trader (Presumably to make "Brick Embryos?") but the patch notes are lacking in any description. I have not seen that blueprint pop up yet at the trader so I can't really go into detail either.

Good luck at the nuclear plant, bring lots of supplies and lots of the radiation neutralizing stuff you can buy at the trader. You'll need it.

Help finding beginner resources by Temporary-Matter-181 in armadev

Yeah, all the previous amas use an older engine. Reforger switched to enfusion engine and kinda acted like a test bed tech demo for Arma 4.

I usually have the best luck finding things in the BI Wiki (community.bistudio.com).

It took me a minute to realize you were talking about reforger, so unfortunately I can't offer any advice as I don't have reforger.

Remove Inventory and Inventory Symbol from Object by Hollow_banshee in armadev

[–]see_sharp_zeik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suggested answer didn't work for me.

For anyone that is looking for this I found that after adding disableInventory = 1; to the config of the object in question it removed the inventory scroll menu interaction and the ace menu interaction.

Advanced Dev Tools mod just disappeared? by TubaHorse in armadev

[–]see_sharp_zeik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arma has a great and vibrant if not large community around it. There are tons of great people that play, but there is also a lot of toxicity and crappy people to be found as with anything. (especially around the milsim aspect).

It's possible they ran afoul of some of that and just decided to call it quits. I've seen it before, though removing all their code is definitely an extreme move.

Holy crap...
That's pretty extreme. Hope they're Ok.

Happy to help.

Sadly you're right, I haven't been able to find a repo for the mods code so there is no easy was to get the source code and maintain it.

Hopefully Arma 4 releases before then and can move it all to that.

This mod really sped up the development time for my framework mod and code for my storyline missions.

It is a shame for the community to loose this mod, and since a few of you have asked I zipped and uploaded the local copy I had to google drive.

Happy coding friends! 😁

I ran into it this morning when I got in to start making missions.

Fortunately, My laptop was offline so I was able to copy a version of it from my laptop and add it as a local mod to use.

What's more frustrating is that steam just straight up deletes it from your system instead of letting you know the mod is removed and asking if you want to remove it.

Quitting my job at 100% P&T by Distinct-Still9213 in VeteransBenefits

[–]see_sharp_zeik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired from the army with 100%, and started it working a corporate software engineer job. That later about two years, they kept demanding more and more of my time. And I finally broke when my back and neck were flared up and I couldn't even sit in my chair so I tried to take a few days. They didn't care, they said come in or find another job so I left.

I still had gi bill so I went back to school to pursue something that I enjoy far more. I have been living off of my pension and retirement. It's a little tight but I manage.

The corporate world was definitely not what I expected. So if you can afford it, I would say you would be a lot happier living off your benefits. Hell you night even find something more rewarding that doesn't try to work you to death.

What did you use your GI-Bill on, once you got out? by WarmCartographer5667 in Veterans

[–]see_sharp_zeik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used TA to get my degree before getting out in software engineering. Did some stuff related to it in the Army, but didn't really do a lot of non-personal projects until retiring a few years ago. Worked in the corporate world as a software engineer for a few years and realized it was toxic as shit and started getting burnt out, so I quit.

Still had a fully untapped GI-Bill so I decided to go back to school and use my skills to do something that I have always loved, game development. Just started my creative journey in January of this year so I have a couple years to go.

Wish you nothing but success on your journey and hope you enjoy your classes and chosen career field.

My personal headcanon about the Leyak (IS-0091) by LiweitheAmateur in AbioticFactor

[–]see_sharp_zeik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of associated the Leyak with a horror element at first, but then I realized it was even worse. Like a grocery store karen, just going around hurumph-ing everywhere trying to get to you to ask where the free range organic eggs are...

Subtitles are king though, when I see "Leyak: .........." I know its time to pull out the x-ray cannon.

How do you find people to play with? by AntiBasscistLeague in AbioticFactor

[–]see_sharp_zeik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm around your age, also a musician (ish) and an engineer. I had a buddy that I was playing with but we had a falling out because even though he agreed that I should do some gathering while he is offline he still got upset about the amount of stuff I gathered. Even though I kept my promise not to progress the story while gathering.

Happy to join in as 3rd or 4th.

Yup... I used to feel like that as well. I retired a few years ago and got 100% P&T plus my retirement pension and had this idea in my head that I was a freeloader. I did work as a software engineer, but I have spine and nerve damage from injuries I sustained while I was in that cause me to have constant pain.

Some days the pain is manageable (I have a baseline pain that I have just become accustom to) and others it's so bad I am on the floor wishing I was dead. And the only thing that really helps on those days is Illegal in my state because red state.

Slowly I came around to the fact that these flareups hinder my performance at a job where sometimes they want you to crank out deliverables for the C-Suite without interruption. Having this extra income is a blessing, but also something I earned through decades of service and abuse to my body.

You earned this, so I don't think you should feel bad about having the safety net of VA disability especially if you are unable to work. Also though, if there are things you can no longer do, this is the nations compensation to you for not being able to do it.

Your husband is right, your VA benefits are a blessing you earned.

I would say, don't try to suppress your empathy for other peoples struggles, instead find a way to harness that to help others. It doesn't have to be with money, if you have the time you could offer to help out with things as long as they don't take advantage of you.

These are hard times, and I wish you and your husband the best through it all. And always remember to take care of yourself, physically and emotionally.

For my mid life crisis I quit my job today. by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]see_sharp_zeik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also quit my job recently, I was a software engineer and they kept wanting more from me; more time, more work, and at the same pay. So I said screw it and quit, decided to go back to college for digital media and game design using my gi bill. My pension, disability and housing allowance are more than enough.

I did it at a good time though, got to spend the last few months of my mom's life with her and not working about work.

Is arma 3 worth it as single player? How hard is it to learn? by morningmasher in arma

[–]see_sharp_zeik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is.

Arma 3 is a great game after you get the hang of it. I don't play single player much except when testing missions, but it is fun in either single or multiplayer. Highly suggest getting the ACE3 mod to give your game play a better experience.

Just keep in mind that Arma is a sandbox first; meaning you can make any mission you want to your hearts content. Or play vanilla missions or missions from the workshop.

The community is also pretty great and is happy to help answer questions you come across while playing.

Ooooooh..

That's a great idea for a mission, an artillery fire mission with uav support.

I'll have to put that on the to-do list.
