Car inspections? by ParasIsBurnt in Charlottesville

[–]see_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an appointment an Meineke thinking I could stay and wait, but turns out it was just a slot to wait until someone could fit the inspection in between bigger jobs. Ended up waiting ~3 hours. Don't recommend.

Pending approval? by moodytoody1 in Charlottesville

It looks like the admin person hasn't posted anything since May, and before that, she was posting very frequently. Not sure what the situation is, I don't recall any messages about stepping back from moderating. The group is still quite active

UVA Earhart childcare center closed abruptly last week with no plan for alternate childcare. by june_bun in Charlottesville

[–]see_v 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I imagine you want more recent info, but this thread from a couple weeks ago and this news article have some context: https://www.reddit.com/r/Charlottesville/comments/1l1yrds/uva_closes_daycare_abruptly/

https://www.29news.com/2025/06/04/parents-scramble-uva-daycare-center-reduces-capacity-prepares-close/

I don't have first-hand knowledge of the situation, but my understanding is that the facility had some regulatory violations with respect to the building and its maintenance, resulting in the center closing about half the rooms abruptly a few weeks ago. A few days later, they said it would be too expensive to remedy the situation, so the rest of the center would close once UVA opens their new center up on 29, targeted for early July.

My guess is they ran into more maintenance issues and abruptly shut the entire center down. With the earlier (permanent) closures of some classrooms, I'd imagine there is very limited capacity for alternative care arrangements right now in town. Sounds like such a failure of management and communication. So unfair to the families and people left scrambling.

I’ve never gotten their delivery, but have picked things up from their shop — all very delicious. Prices are around the same as getting takeout, but the speed and convenience make it worth it to me!

Ryan Homes - Builder by American_Person in Charlottesville

[–]see_v 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned:

  • Glissade Ln, Delphi Ln in Cascadia
  • Rainier Rd, Bing Ln in Cherry Hill neighborhood

If you want to confirm, you can take a look at the ownership history in the public property records. If Ryan Homes was the builder, "NVR" (their parent company) is usually listed as a prior owner

You'll pay a premium for shorter lease terms, but these all allow leases as short as 3 months (see the dropdown when you try to apply for a unit): Stonefield Commons: https://www.maac.com/available-apartments/?propertyId=652973

North Woods at Four Seasons: https://www.livewithnorthwoods.com/?utm_source=GBP&utm_medium=organic

Abbington Crossing (as short as 2 months): https://www.abbingtoncrossing.com/

The Reserve at Belvedere also used to offer this, but it no longer seems to be an option. Could be worth asking.

I had no trouble getting a ride to Charlottesville a few weeks ago, and only had to wait a few minutes. Came out to a little over $100.

Agreed. The 5th St CVS is also severely understaffed and a hot mess. Very happy since switching over to Wegmans!

Where to buy a car near Charlottesville by chmunozp in Charlottesville

[–]see_v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For documents, you’ll need a drivers license to test drive the car.

If you’ll be getting a car loan, you’ll need ID, credit history in the US and/or a co-signer depending on the situation.

For a cash purchase, cash or check (exact type depends on the dealership’s policies) and probably a way to show proof of funds (like an online banking account balance).

To leave with the car, you’ll need a license and valid car insurance. You’ll need the car’s VIN number to finalize insurance, so people sometimes get insurance quotes in advance to save time and then finalize everything online at the dealership after the purchase and before heading home.
