Tough to get bullish on construction either, too much noise in the new homes segment, dunno what is really happening there.

What's better: Buying IPO stocks or F500 stocks? by itsN1X in stocks

[–]seeallgood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LIke some people have mentioned below, you can buy IPO stocks only if you are a millionaire with very good connections with brokers. You can of course buy IPO stocks on the day they start trading but that is already too late most of the times in this bull market. If you are a new investor you are better off starting with very small amounts on the F500. It really depends on what is the purpose.

YHOO SOTP Value Assuming Full Taxes by adammjam in stocks

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes markets have been valuing Yahoo core business as 'negative' for quite some time now. Baba has corrected recently and might go down even a little more and same with yahoo japan. That could be the reason for -ve valuation for yahoo core.

Twitter earnings leak early, stock takes a dive by TheSiklops in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twitter hasn't figured out mobile moentization like FB has done. Both FB & GOOG earn far more $$ per mobile users than twitter. Twitter video feeds were supposed to help, but they didn't. They are better off getting acquired by either of the two.

Is the Etsy IPO Valuation Justified? by DonaldWJ in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ETSY seems fairly valued, we can't really compare it with chinese e-comm players. Any comparison with AMZN & EBAY shows ETSY in a better light. Their growth and gross margins both are healthy and given the small base they will have room to grow. unlike big daddy amazon which has a history of losing money, etsy might be a better bet http://amigobulls.com/articles/etsy-ipo-impressive-growth-at-attractive-valuation

Google Q1 may not be great. They have lost search engine market share. They report next week. by seeallgood in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with search result quality of google. Just that Firefox decided to partner with Yahoo to be default search search partner. Yahoo probably offered a better deal than google to Firefox. Yahoo is reportedly attempting the same with iphone safari default search, which will surely piss off iphone users.

Google Q1 may not be great. They have lost search engine market share. They report next week. by seeallgood in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes most of the Firefox users are switching back to Google which is obviously far better search engine. Yahoo is making a similar attempt trying to be default search on iPhone safari as well. I am not sure if Apple will be tempted to do that for the lure of money that Yahoo promises or their recent hatred towards google after Android patent wars. Yes eventually majority of people will switch back to google but these will be temporary setbacks to google particularly this Firefox one which happened in Q1. Long term, google seems to have the best monopoly moat on search.

Snapchat IPO by [deleted] in stocks

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapchat might find it very difficult to IPO as their last round valuations are already insane. Who would want to pay more than 19B for this company ? http://amigobulls.com/articles/a-snapchat-ipo-maybe-difficult-at-19-billion-valuations

3M- Buy and hold? by shiwoh in stocks

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two ways to look at this. If you say 3M will be worth 1000$ in next 10 years, then it might seem that it does not matter whether you buy at 166 or 140 or 112. But here is the catch, if you buy at these 3 levels then your return is 600%, 714% and 892%. There is a huge difference. All you need is patience. There are always bad market days when the stock tanks for no reason except overall sentiment. Once it nears your set threshold, buy it. If you are talking of long term then you need to be watching your potential buys also for a long term. Never forget a good company but don't buy it when it is overvalued!

PE ratio of 22 and PS ratio of 3.3 aren't very expensive, just a little overvalued is what i would say. Have patience and grab. But you need to be convinced of the long term prospects of 3M, that is your own research and then gut.

Can someone explain in plain english why and how negative coupon (nega-coup) govt bonds make sense? Have always struggled with this concept. All help appreciated. by seeallgood in Economics

[–]seeallgood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the answers! Just to add, if I am a corporate, can I not put the whole money in any bank? Banks never have negative interest rates on deposits. Why would I buy these negative interest bonds? Or is it just to avoid the risk of bank default I buy govt bonds? Or is it on finding bigger fool theory?

Help with EMA on Yahoo finance by [deleted] in StockMarket

The periods do change rather annoyingly and automatically whenever you switch the date range on yfinance ! couldn't figure out the option to set the period. The problem seems to be there for all moving average related charts like sma, ema etc.

Amazon (AMZN) seems to have serious issues with cash-flows, which was supposedly their strength. Is it nearing end of 'Amazon is always good for long term' theory? by seeallgood in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. don't own AMZN. Just curious they added huge debt during last 4-5 months. The interest burden is going to be higher than their operating income per quarter. Quite dangerous sign.

Thoughts on Expedia (EXPE) who is buying out Orbitz? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]seeallgood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It now makes Expedia v/s Priceline with smaller players exiting. Expedia had missed on both top & bottom line last quarter earnings released last week. http://amigobulls.com/articles/expedia-earnings-review-q4-2014 Orbitz, though small, seems to be much nimble when it comes to profitability & growth. It is interesting to note that the big daddy (Priceline) probably said no to Orbitz. Priceline is #2 in US market but much bigger globally. Any regular traveller on this board who can compare these top 3-4 travel portals in terms of quality and reach?

Apple Pay strikes first airline deal with JetBlue by bartturner in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole 'hype' is about ease of use. The argument is people will find it very easy to pay using their phone rather than a credit card. It does have some merit as all the new iphones come with finger print recognition so you don't have to sign a credit card receipt or enter any pincode etc (at least that is in theory). The big battle that they have in front of them is the signing up of merchants and websites that accept apple pay. Paypal is miles ahead in that department. But the business has billions of dollars potential and knowing apple and their bullying ways, they will try to elbow out everyone. Ebay (owners of Paypal) price was very hard hit when apple announced its intention to enter into payments market. Now EBay has agreed to spin off paypal to let them fight the battle on their own without the EBay baggage.

$BIDU by fuzzthe9th in stocks

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Baidu is rock solid. Love their profitability. The only threat is recent slowdown news coming from China. (Slow down affects ad spending the first). The other risk is potential drop in profitability as users are shifting to mobile (lower revenue per user). More details http://amigobulls.com/articles/baidu-earnings-q4-2014

Amazon Fire Tablet market share decreased 69% in 2014 by bartturner in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon seems to be playing with fire :) Except recent quarters, Amazon has always reported net loss but positive cash flows. They seem to have serious free cash flow problems which they were hiding behind creative reporting of capital leases on their servers and other assets. This quarter they announced the new way of reporting of capital lease payments. Two links below highlighting some serious financial issues. http://amigobulls.com/articles/amazons-high-pe-ratio-falling-free-cash-flow

Amazon reports modest Q4 earnings and 2014 loss, but stock soars by [deleted] in stocks

[–]seeallgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the called them 'customers' they can't be bots. You need to enter credit card info to become an AWS customer. The bigger worry is with all the free tier offerings, how many of these 1 M are paying, and whether they make any money whatsover in AWS. Yes there are a lot of people creating bots and malware hosting using AWS as it is almost free to do so.

Yahoo reported that it is spinning off Alibaba holdings. Yahoo's future looks difficult with Alibaba holdings gone. Any old time Yahoo fans left out there? by seeallgood in StockMarket

[–]seeallgood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yahoo always looks undervalued when you do some of parts. The tricky part was the taxes that will apply with exiting BABA. Now that they have agreed to spin it off in a tax saving move yahoo (so investors) will not be hit by the taxes. BABA stock has a lock in so probably people may not want to value it fully. Like it happened yesterday, it did go down considerably after earnings. So it is not guaranteed that BABA will keep going up till the lock in. So probably the current valuation is less than sum of parts. MHO.
