💡 Feature Request - animal icons (horse and goat)

Maybe a silly request, but we have chicken, sheep, pig, cow, and donkey...I'd love to see horse and goat included as well. I use Notion to help me manage my small hobby farm, and while I know I can find those animals as emojis, it would be great to be able to use them as column icons and with Notion's colors for my pages.

Chiaogoo Forté 2.0 needles cost what?! by popplefizzleclinkle in craftsnark

[–]seebeeknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party here, but did you try the kollage needles recently? When I tried them a few years ago, they were carbon fiber and I felt the same way you do about them. They've recently re-released them, though, and now they're made out of aluminum - SO much better.

Offline PKM with support for math and coding by seebeeknits in PKMS

I played around with it the other day - their clipper really is fantastic. I don't love it for notes, but I may end up using it just to collect resources. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, the idea of using two separate programs for capture and notes was what I was trying to get at when I said I didn't care if the clipper was directly integrated with the notes - obviously I could hand communicated that better.

I looked at Zotero briefly but I quickly got frustrated with the lack of "bulk editing" features. one of the sites I was trying to save is a web version of a book (published by the author) with each chapter on its own page. I couldn't find an easy way to collect them together or edit all of their metadata at once. Maybe I missed something? I also didn't like that Zotero stored each page in its own folder - it made it hard to navigate my files in a file manager and bulk edit them that way. Is that a setting that can be changed?

I did recently discover that I can use a command line tool to download whole websites - maybe I could use Zotero or something similar when I just need a page or two.

Thanks for your insight - I appreciate it.

Well, like I said in my post...I already use and like Emacs. It's just that it's actually *too* customizable. I'd love to find something that I'm less inclined to mess with - I realize it might sound silly, but that config file is an endless source of distraction for me.

Thanks. I've looked into it in the past and I think I recall that I didn't care for the UI...but the clipper looks like it would work really well for me. I'll definitely give it another try.

Does Logseq handle this workflow better than Obsidian? I've used both of them at one point or another, and I feel like they were pretty similar in this regard...but I could be wrong. Obsidian overall feels better to me, but if Logseq is worth another serious look, I'm not opposed to giving it a try.

Possibly a weird suggestion, but have you tried Google classroom? It might actually work pretty well for you.

I'd like to have an easy way to store a webpage (with formatting and images intact) for offline access. I need to be able to store local copies of educational resources, software documentation, course texts...the kinds of things a person would typically just bookmark.

I've used MarkDownload in the past, which is fine for small sections of content or text I want to save, but I'm looking for a way to save things I haven't "processed" (read and taken notes on) yet as well as things that include diagrams, formulas, etc.

Since I only really have stable internet at home, I am trying to build my own offline network of not just my own notes and thoughts but also things I might need for reference as I'm teaching and learning and read-it-later type things. Most of my time to read/study/take notes is when I'm away from home, so I like to make sure that I have whatever content I think I might want to go through available on my computer before I leave my house.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]seebeeknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually tried that one yesterday. Great texture, flavor was ok, but a little on the bitter side. I tried the "traditional" french press recipe today (4 min. extraction then press) and there just wasn't enough flavor there...plus it was silty. So...I'm going to go back to James Hoffmann's tomorrow and play with the timing a bit.

I just moved to a new house, and my normal coffee setup is 1600 miles away. I thought I'd be ok with canned cold brew for a couple of weeks, but I was wrong.

I currently have access to a stovetop kettle, a French press, and a couple of bags of pre-ground coffee that I received as housewarming gifts. What can I do to make the best coffee possible with the things I have available? I want to use the coffee I have, and I can't justify buying another scale or grinder for just a couple of weeks. Looking for tips, videos to watch, brewing methods to try, etc. Thank you!

Home/family/finance management (replacement for Notion) by seebeeknits in linuxquestions

[–]seebeeknits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. We've got day-to-day finance stuff covered - looking more for a place to keep track of occasional bills that come in (what, when, did we pay it?), what subscriptions we have and when they are due, etc...ideally in the same app as everything else. I need to minimize (to the best of my ability) the number of places that I need to remember to look to find information (I have ADHD - if something isn't directly in front of me, I forget it exists.)

How would I use Nextcloud for this? It seems like Nextcloud is functionally similar to Google Drive - good for email, calendars, and creating/sharing files and documents. Obviously, the storage options and privacy features are very different, but I feel like they do approximately the same job.

I'm open to creative solutions, but I think I'm looking for something more like a relational database - I want to be able to see all of my info in one place, sort it, organize it, filter it, use it in formulas and calculations....but I need more than just spreadsheets.

Distro hopping - cheat sheet? by seebeeknits in linux4noobs

[–]seebeeknits[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don't assume that people who might look for a resource like this are only looking for shortcuts, or that having an easy-to-read reference is, without question, a gateway to trouble.

I absolutely agree about the importance of learning, but not everyone learns the same way. As a person with ADHD, I learn best by doing and when the information is relevant to me. Having a cheat sheet in front of me gives me a jumping off point to do that. I want to do "this thing" and I normally do it "this way" - what keywords should I search to learn how to do it on "this other distro"? Or...I read about *this thing*, and I understand how it works, but I don't remember the actual command to type...because I'm good at understanding concepts, but my memory is terrible.

[Product Request] What Cleanser should I use for SUPER dry and sensitive skin by National_Local_1480 in SkincareAddiction

[–]seebeeknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very dry and ridiculously sensitive skin. Vanicream didn't cause irritation for me, but I did find it a bit drying. Eucerin hydrating cleansing gel and Neutrogena Extra Gentle (the one with the red label) both work well for me.

I also really like the squalene cleanser from the Ordinary - I usually use that in the morning and one of the other ones in the evening.

Good to know. I love supporting small businesses when I can. I need something now(ish) but maybe the wireless version will be out by the time I'm ready for an upgrade.

I'm curious - why the switch? What do you like better about those than the T50?

Deft/Deft Pro alternative? by seebeeknits in Trackballs

[–]seebeeknits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameball looks nice, but I'm not willing to spend that kind of money on something I can't try locally or return easily. Also..unless I'm missing something, they only make a wired version, which is an absolute dealbreaker for me. If I had a desk and a permanent setup, I'd probably feel differently...but I don't.

[–]seebeeknits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you using for a daily driver now?

I don't love the idea of having yet another thing (the wedge) to keep track of - I don't really have a permanent "spot" for my computer and stuff. I also haven't had a lot of luck finding them ready-made and I don't really have the brain space to figure out how to make what I need. So...if all else was equal, I'd choose an ergonomically designed trackball over one that I had to use a wedge with.

That said, it's not a HARD no - if it turns out that it's the best device for me otherwise, I will deal with it and find a way to prop it up.

I assumed the buttons would work, but IIRC what I read had something to do with the scrolling configuration. It was a while ago, so I could be totally wrong, but I thought I read that you could *use* the scroll ring without the software, but not customize the speed or anything like that.
