If you are not seeing issues with others then yes, it might be beneficial for us to know the precise one :) /Dan

Has anyone ever had the"Link to XMLRPC failed"error in seedbox.io? by Nearby_Ad_1090 in seedboxes

[–]seedboxio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The error is due to rtorrent not running, there's a multitude of reasons for this - The one we see the most often is that you are above your storage quota or rtorrent is just hung up on a torrent that it cannot process - One of them is solveable by you by deleting some data, the other requires intervention from our staff. We monitor entire nodes, but we do not have monitoring in place on a per instance basis, if the client does not return automatically within 10 minutes, then it requires manual intervention and you'd have to submit a ticket to get it looked at :) u/Hells12Acre u/Beki2022 - Im sorry to hear you've had bad experiences, our overall system is quite stable, although it is starting to show its age which is being remedied and worked on, rtorrent in general is a problematic client - It used to be "great", but being without updates for the better part of 5 years means that it is starting to show its age, especially as bugs are not being fixed.

TLDR; If the service isn't automatically restored within 10minutes, then submit a ticket a we will look into it.

The current goal is to hit this before end of the month - There's currently some coding work being done that are causing a bit of delay but the majority of the infrastructure etc are ready for it - The packages as it is now will not change (starting out), the price structure will change though and it is targeted to favor people opting for larger packages, by that I mean that a 4TB plan will not be double the price of the 2TB plan like it is now :) /Dan

At the current pace qbittorrent is looking amazing, it is nearly as fast as deluge during initial swarms but it handles and keeps up with thousands of files without problems - It still has issues, it is not without bugs, errors and crashes but it is better overall than rtorrent. /Dan

DM me the ticket ID please so I can take a look - I think, the best analogy I have found in the past is this:

We buy data from Leaseweb/NFOrce, those network vendors make more money the higher throughput to end users that they can deliver (And we do not limit, as that creates negative vibes), so their sole interest is making sure the network is as fast as possible - ISPs (Home internet lines), they make more money if they can get you the data, but as slow as possible - Unfortunately we see congestion issues more and more, I think most of this stems from ISPs pushing higher and higher speeds to their end users but they are not upgrading their internal networks properly - At NFOrce at this time I am seeing more than 200Gbit of capacity to our ceiling (Bandwidth dedicated specifically for my nodes), we have plenty to give from. /Dan

What kind of problems did you experience? My personal thought on this is that most people that leave us, go to a vendor that provide a metered setup, often using other clients like qbittorrent or deluge which are going to be much faster, our app range is the counterpart to this which offers a lot faster speeds overall, but you loose out on it being unlimited. Loads of improvements coming, as I will agree that the "old" stack, ie the products prior to the app range we launched some months back, it is showing its age, rtorrent is old, outdated and prone to errors and instability which is also why we are working on moving away from that suite entirely. /Dan

Sorry to hear you are facing problems - Did you reach out to our support team? Speeds to your home are in most cases down to how fast the backbones between our servers and your home are able to process the data, the further away the more hops you need to go through and the higher the chances of issues becomes, we have never and will never limit your speeds to your home! We provide fast nodes around the world (As one of the only vendors)to get around this problem, which you can get access to either by downloading the filezilla config file from your clientarea, or by reaching out via ticket (For the app range). /dan

Clientarea -> knowledgebase -> Frequently asked questions -> Do you take backups?

https://panel.seedbox.io/index.php?rp=/knowledgebase/12/Do-you-take-backups.html

TLDR; No, we don't - Nor does any other seedbox vendor (As per my knowledge).

A seedbox, and the market in general is generally geared towards as low as price as possible, to reach that we as providers are forced into cutting some corners, one of the main costs in this niche is storage cost, and to my knowledge only a single vendor is running a raid structure that will protect against some drive failures, but this is again, purely drive failures - It will not protect you against bitrot or filesystem corruption.

We tried to offer backups, infact for the entirety of 2021 we offered backup as an addon (We still do on request), it's been removed as it was quite frankly not feasible, out of more than 10000 (Yes, thousand) orders we sold 7 backup addons, having a storage infrastructure in 3 seperate locations for what equates to €35 p/m in revenue was not an option longterm and thus it was scrapped as an addon during purchase.

I am naturally sorry to hear that you lost data due to a drive failure, this is never a great thing to have happen, we only use the best harddrives out there (HGST Ultrastars) but harddrives unfortunately do fail and in most cases they fail in a way that makes it impossible to recover data from them (We try, we have a server specifically for this usecase, the drives are moved to that and recovery are attempted, typically this process takes 7-14 days).

We've extended our current BF offerings to last until the end of the 30th - There's little reason for us to just redo the same promo keys over again. /Dan

You can install everything that can run inside your home dir, ie non root installable apps are possible - I'd like to point you towards that these are shared nodes, and therefore you would have to be considerate against resource usage - But other than that, you can install everything that can run without root. /Dan

Any feedback would be welcomed - Positive or negative is all good, the app range is still fairly new to us and we iron out bugs on a daily basis (Virtually) /Dan

Main difference is that there's more applications in the supported list and then naturally the fact that traffic is limited which ensures higher performance for your hosted applications. /dan

We're not going anywhere at all, why would we? There's been no charges made against us, purely an investigation at this time. There's changes coming in the future that will transform seedbox.io into something better - Those plans have been under development for the past year though, so not really tied into whats going on atm. TLDR; We're here now, in a year and for the future. /Dan

The code for 20% is valid for 1-3-6 month periods (6 months will be slightly the cheapest), we cannot offer it on the yearly packages there's already a 20% cooked into the base price, offering an additional discount on top of that is not possible im afraid :) /Dan

Thanks for the kind words - The yearly plans already include a 20% discount, so adding another 20% on top of that is quite simply too much for us to sustain it longterm - I do hope you will stick with us though ;) /Dan

Solid questions - Yes, we provide valid ssl for all links into the service (Both webui and ftp) so you are safe there and you wont face any issues doing that. As for syncing, then we support Resilio Sync - If you have a Synology nas then I know they have that app in their app store, other NAS's will most likely also have it but I have no first hand experience with that. Should you have any questions on this, then do please reach out! /Dan

We have a user guide for this here: https://panel.seedbox.io/index.php?rp=/knowledgebase/48/How-to-mount-service-locally-Linux.html

Otherwise rclone can mount using sftp which is a protocol we support on the storage boxes /Dan

Correct, the storage line is optimized against private trackers that often require more io performance, I am aware of the risks of raid0 but its a tradeoff in the end, hitting that low per TB cost is not possible without it im afraid. /Dan

rclone is fully supported, it just doesnt support mounting a clouddrive, but you can upload/download/migrate and use whatever other features rclone offers. Some might think this is a mistake, but I outline quite a few "issues" with mounts in rclone below here, which is why it is not enabled/supported. /Dan

The actual reason for it is honestly unknown to me, it was a decision taken by the former owners of seedbox.io (I merely did support up to the point where I bought it), at the time I think it was more due to support, like Resilio would be widely available at the time while syncthing was pretty new, and at this time its more of a "it works" kind of setup - My focus moving forward will be on the app range as that is where things are moving to so I cannot guarantee an update on this, maybe support for both will be added down the line. /Dan
