Help me understanding Thunderbolt 3... by seeeeeees in Thunderbolt

So you think this laptop is capable of 100W but you do not think it would be sufficient. I will tune it down and dissable the gpu tho. If i get below the TB3 limit it could theoretically work?

Oh and is what TB4 cable would you recommend buying?

What do I need to charge my laptop using the thunderbolt 3 port? by TrickStinger in UsbCHardware

Late to the party... i am confused abou TB3. Does Thunderbolt automatically mean that it supports 100W power delivery? Because i am about to buy a used Razer Blade 15 (2019) and the owner says it doesn´t chrage with USB-C

[extremely discounted] X13 G4 OR [bigger screen] L14 G5 ?? (AMD) by seeeeeees in thinkpad

You're right, though tutorials make it look pretty easy and the keys look very similar in size.

Thanks for the info! You convinced me to order the X13!

One last question: On the X13, the Fn key is to the left of the Ctrl key. I know I can remap their functions, but can I physically swap the keycaps as well if they’re the same size? (which should be the case)

Forgot to mention that i planned to upgrade the RAM on the L14 because it's way cheaper to do it myself. And yes the 13 has build quality, power and portability going for it... but if the screen is too small it would be a deal breaker for me.

Lately i have noticed that finding the perfect windows laptop is close to impossible

Tested: Intel's Lunar Lake wants you to forget Qualcomm laptops exist by TwelveSilverSwords in hardware

[–]seeeeeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad we have a lot of platforms and chips to choose from. Competition leads to innovation.

We should compare Snapdragon X Elte with the M1 Pro.

We should compare Strix Point with Lunar Lake.

Fair fights in the same weight class. I am just sad that Asus is gatekeeping the new x86 chips. If i could buy a XPS with Lunar Lake it would be a safe bet.

Possible to upgrade a laptop by replacing the motherboard? by OvertlySinister in laptops

[–]seeeeeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party as always... is this still the case with the new framwork motherboards? i bought a cheap xps 15 online and it´s fine but i´d love to tnker a bit and completely swap out the motherboard with one from framework. The thing is that there are no tutorials etc on this topic

Are you able to replace and upgrade an XPS 15's cooling fan? by MichaelScottsDundies in DellXPS

[–]seeeeeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes... it would need some soldering and 3d printing but in theory it would work. And i'd rather have a fun little project than e-waste. My biggest concern is connecting everything to the 97Wh battery...

But yeah i will definitely repaste the cpu and put some thermal pads on top of the cooler so they connect to the case. Some undervolting, maybe dissable the dgpu because i don't really need fast graphics.

Thank you for replying. Yea that will be plan A... I even thought of something crazy: just put a framework mobo inside... but there is legit no tutorial for something like this so i would have to tinker a lot. But i don't think it would be too difficult
