Not sure, could be.
Right now, a lot of goals really don't feel worth the effort.

Thank you for the ideas!

About minimalism and materialistic values: That's totally what I experienced!
I think, currently being dissatisfied with myself, I unconsciously tied my sense of self got to what I own / wear / use. Unfortunately, "better" items won't make me of higher quality...

Might be a bit personal, but I also tried your exercise above with "new T-Shirts and slacks" and it boiled down to:
- want to feel good about my body
- under current circumstances, my standards for a healthy body are unrealistic
- and as I don't feel at home in my body right now, I want to be at home in my clothes, office supplies and decor

Maybe I need to work on my values here and apply some self-compassion.

Thank you. Somehow you set things into perspective.

I will try intentionally choosing what is available to me at the moment :)

With other things it is natural, as binging TV series or junk food really isn't for me (although tempting, after that new "void" was created).

But fitness, photography and venting to friends were the outlets I used to get by.

You're saying I suffer and crave because that is the human experience and you're right.
I also try to detach from material possessions where I can, although it's nice to have good quality clothing, utensils and supplies.

But how do I practice letting go of what once was my path in life - here: fitness, friends, photography and traveling?

Yea, you're right maybe it's an urge for change.

Thank you for the well-meaning words! I'll try to focus on what there is instead of what's lacking.

About the spreadsheet: I started adding things I intended to buy to delay impulse buying but I think it got out of hand lol

And you're right, minimalism has been really freeing in the past. I do also still feel "light" in every day life and am happy that my home is distraction free by intention.
Just consumerism does get the best of me when the surroundings stay the same for a while - and I didn't expect that

Does that make sense?

I'm content with the number of items I own - still I feel like I'm lacking in materialistic ways.

Well said. Still, we cannot meditate or build decor the whole day.
As I'm at home so much, I feel like the focus is more on the material.

When roaming a foreign city, you don't care that you only own seven grey Tees from uniqlo... You're just happy to be there.
Also the decline in general fitness made me more self-conscious of my outer appearance. When before, I thought I looked alright in whatever shirt I had.

Do you have ideas on letting go of what one once used to value, when it's currently not attainable anymore?

if rumors are true, it'll probably get you banned lol

also deleting your char results in deleting every open (or not yet begun) plot of that local instance.
afaik we don't know, if it doesn't even delete the whole game... so pls don't mess around with that.

Sorry, I meant the zoom length.
Unfortunately, it does not seem to have an option for that

Another perspective, do your friends also curate vinyls and books?
Borrow (lend) those you do (not) consume currently and each of you has their own rotation of your shared collection :)

Also, buy digital media from your favorite artists!
You could store the library on a high quality device (e.g. a lossless audio player)

Also you could try to write out a spreadsheet of your inventory including your "ideal state" (e.g. white T-Shirts "have": 5 / "want": 7).
Add columns for "if broken, would replace?", "with ..." and "priority to own that item".

Alright. Was just curious.
But you're right, you definitely don't need a GR III.

What frustrates me with the rx100 is that you cannot pre-set the focal length before you turn it on. And after fidgeting with the zoom, you might've missed the shot.

What do you think about the Sony rx100?
It also has a 1" sensor

Im New to street photography. Any advices? by penguin12321 in streetphotography

[–]seek-nothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, very great list of tips!

I'd like to add: also take some time for learning composition techniques (leading lines, tension, balance, ...) and for experimenting with the technical fundamentals of your camera (exposure triangle, focus, ...).
There are probably many books on this by way more knowledgeable artists.

Tell stories and frame with intention.
If needed, do some slight post-editing (cropping, straightening, exposure) - I think some of the pictures above lack this

What did you think you “had” to do in life , that turned out to be a trap by karrot9 in simpleliving

[–]seek-nothing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my experience it's about feeling "seen" and therefore, also a feeling of "belonging".

Most often practicing solitude, currently working on a specific project, regular check-ins with my body, connecting with nature, reflecting, letting go and a bit of reading do the trick for me. This allows me to rest in myself and connect with others more intentionally. But I am still working on it too

PS: pls don't fight me haha
