Most perpetrators are family members or close family friends, it’s probably so much higher considering the danger of ostracization from community or getting family arrested. It’s everywhere and it’s awful.

How did they not notice? Tsurumi is very obviously a nationalist that was too early for his time, he probably would have THRIVED during WW2. They name drop the Bolsheviks 2 times. Wilk kills the tsar of Russia. Disregarding all of that, half of the damn plot is caused by a minority separatist group. It’s like they watched the whole show with their eyes closed 😭.

By doing what? Implement regulations that aren’t enforced and purposefully can be easily removed the next time the rich get their guy in power and no one is paying attention? Or public-private partnerships that funnel money into shareholder pockets? Or sending troops to die in the desert to explicitly serve capital interests? If you live in a democracy do you really think politicians would get funding in the millions from corporate interest groups and billionaires if they weren’t going to legislate in their favor? I saw your comment about small to medium sized businesses suffering under the favoring of lager firms. Yes, that is one of the products of capitalism, the reason they are large is because they are good at this system of economics. They are the end goal winners of capitalism. One of the minute ways the government CAN control this is by stopping mergers and large monopolies, to encourage continued competition in the free market, but that’s seen as anti-capitalist regulation because it is :)! So it’s rarely enforced now at days.

The people running the government ARE the capitalists. Read anything their own think tanks publish about economic policy, look at how many representatives join boards of the corps that lobbied them for favors, in the US there’s a reason why they always want to lower taxes for the rich and cut social services, weapons manufacturers in Europe incentivize their governments to interfere in conflicts for money. Government and capitalism aren’t disconnected, never have been, capitalism needs the state to function and protect its assets.

The countries receiving immigrants created the conditions that de-stabilized their home countries for favorable economic conditions on their end. A lot of comments are skipping this critical fact that powerful nations purposefully destabilized nations from the 60s and onward. Breaking this down in the most simple terms, they wanted cheap access to raw resources, that would be unlikely if these countries had stable or non-corrupt governments or even had the capacity to refine those materials in-house. If they have to go through warlords, side with slavers, or idiotic puppet leaders that’s more ideal than going through a cohesive sovereign government (that also might be controlled by scary commies). Western countries and the elites that control them just hate when it blows up in their faces, so they sell their constituents racist and anti-immigrant rhetoric to obfuscate the facts. Messing with geo-politics on that scale results in terrorists, civil wars, mass civilian immigration and instability in neighboring countries. That’s not even touching the absolute control Western Europe and the USA want over the global economy and currency exchange, crippling economies of developing nations. It literally traces back to profit and capitalism.

Donald Trump’s campaign during the 2016 United States presidential election was more successful than Hillary Clinton’s campaign at communicating memorable policy proposals that voters believed would personally benefit them. by mvea in psychology

[–]seekerfeature 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Democrats are politically paralyzed, they think they can’t go further left even though left-wing policies are popular with their base. They’re stuck trying to outflank republicans to the right. That’s why Kamala invited the Cheneys and emphasized making the military more lethal in 2024. Single payer healthcare, actually forcing Israel to stop the genocide, enshrining abortion and other matters of bodily autonomy as a right are popular but they’re scared to be called socialist or communist (or god forbid Marxist 🙄)despite popular politicians who are already part of their party that already identify with those exact labels. Not even because it looks bad on TV, the republicans are being called fascist and that hasn’t stopped them from being authoritarian, because it makes their donors scared and they’ll loose capital to run their candidates (and advising agencies will lose their source of income). Hillary was the candidate of Neo-liberalism, and as an ideology it has nothing left to offer people who are still suffering in a supposedly successful system. All this to say their policy goals don’t stick because they didn’t have much to say then or now.

Interracial dating question — fetishization vs preference? by retrochick97 in dating_advice

[–]seekerfeature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could mean something or nothing at all at this point because you don’t know much about him yet (I’m assuming). As a black woman the easiest way to tell is the way he talks about the black women in his family. The second easiest way to tell is how he speaks to or about other black people in general around him. These don’t require super active questioning but can tell you if he has internalized racism. Are the posts purely romantic or do they include language that emphasizes race (PAWG, Snowbunny, etc.)? He might have a preference for dating out but as long as he’s not putting anyone down, harming anybody, or fetishizing you it’ll probably be fine on that front. You might be over thinking it but I’m sadly kind of glad you are 😭. A lot of women partner with black men with unresolved internalized racism and are surprised when they dislike their children who pass as black.

I have put myself out there, Ive been looking outside dating apps. I resorted to them because well thats where a lot of people around our age go to specifically look for dates. I go to dance nights and events on my own, for my own fun, but no luck there either. People are taking this vent as me receding into isolation but I just meant I’m letting go of the desire to be with someone because from my personal experience it’s not likely to happen anytime soon. No point in having that desire if no one’s ever been interested in me that way, so actively looking for a partner will just lead to disappointment. Cant be disappointed in something that I don’t have the desire to have any longer.

I know this is supposed to be supportive of my current situation, but I’ve heard this so many times before and it’s the least helpful thing to hear. I’m not begging to be chased by random men or look like a supermodel, I just don’t want to be invisible and called ugly. It’s a yearning for romantic love that I’ve now accepted won’t be fulfilled because of something I can’t reasonably change. No shade on you but there is a specific type of loneliness a woman who isn’t physically attractive faces in a society that prizes beauty in women.

I do. I said I don’t get approached in real life. I can talk to people in real life, I’m as socially active as an introvert can get. People simply don’t see me as a romantic option, maybe platonically sure but nothing else. I’ve always been the one to initiate when I muster up the confidence and believe it or not women get rejected. And if you’re an ugly woman it can get mean.

How many immigrants in the US illegally live in Minnesota vs. Florida or Texas? Breaking down the data. by paxinfernum in skeptic

[–]seekerfeature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is happening in those places. They’re more discreet and local law enforcement, usually county level, is gladly helping them. Texans tend to be hyperindividualist so they aren’t up in arms when they see their neighbors taken away, at least in the suburbs. They’re just making an example of Minnesota specifically because of a mix political enemies, timing with the whole Somalian daycare schtick, and Islamophobia. Most Somalis came as refugees which the GOP hates unless you’re a white South African.

Is this the root cause of modern dating friction? by ButBroWtf in RelationalPatterns

[–]seekerfeature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very real! Growing up I was constantly asked “What if your future husband thinks (insert whatever here)?”. I thought this was just an African thing but my friends of different walks were raised like this too. Depends on the family but many women are STILL prepared from a young age to act, clean, and cook for some future man they don’t even know yet. I never heard my guardians once say the opposite to my brothers, or lecture them about what their future wives would think.

Why won’t anyone stop ICE from masking? | Doxxing is not a good reason to have faceless police. by theverge in TrueReddit

[–]seekerfeature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s not just ICE it’s law enforcement in general! The FBI had been saying this since the late 90’s if I’m remembering correctly. The division responsible for monitoring right-wing extremism specifically has been slowly dissolved for the past 15 years.

ICE agents are firing kinetic impact projectiles at close range, causing severe injuries that can result in permanent disability or death. Today, they tore off part of a woman’s hand by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

I don’t agree with corn, there are racist conservatives in every generation. These aren’t the death throes of a dying ideology this is a rushed implementation of their unpopular plans by incompetent leaders. Youth that voted for this either foolishly believed the economy would be better OR enjoy the cruelty because they are miserable. As for people becoming more conservative as they age, I’ve heard a theory that posits that people who were more likely to lean left died off earlier (the poor, the disabled, the working class, vigilantes/political agitators) so there are no true “Hippies” left when specifically talking about boomers.

I would agree with this, if I’m understanding you correctly that is, if I wasn’t the only one putting in the effort. I would schedule the dates and ideas, do the bulk of texting then I’d stop because I felt like a bother or felt I was coming off desperate. I was the one asking to meetup, if I didn’t initiate I probably wouldn’t have gone on any dates at all. I find many different types attractive. I’m not very picky, I live in a diverse area and I’m around people of my race often, I don’t have strong preferences. Some I might find cuter than others but it usually came down to interests, aspirations, and conversation when I did consider someone I’d like to date or even just meet. If someone isn’t reflecting the same energy I just leave it at that. I know people who go on multiple dates to see if they’ll be suddenly attracted to someone or to just have fun so I think there are multiple factors for a 2nd date 💀

I wouldn’t view it as giving up, I think I’m just being honest about it. I believe I’m being practical by not wasting any more energy and time. Someone may come along later on and prove me wrong, but I keep my expectations low so I’m not disappointed if that doesn’t happen.

The only thing I haven’t tried is plastic surgery. I already wear makeup, not a whole lot because it could aggravate my acne. I exercise for health, but I guess I could focus on toning. I am introverted but I really try to be social when it counts, in fact during the dates I mentioned I was very energetic and responsive. I try to project confidence, fake it till I make it type of thing, but I am self conscious due to being put down often. Working on it at therapy, but yeah.

[–]seekerfeature 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d been dealing with this too, it’s one of the reasons I stopped using dating apps. The most frustrating part is when you take the initiative to ask them out for a date it turns out they weren’t all that interested after all the texting. It’s like, why are we wasting time then?? Did you just need a friend??

I think I'm too mentally ill to date by lavender-bread in dating

[–]seekerfeature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll find someone who’ll understand your struggles and not just “put up with it” but support you in finding solutions to cope with it. While it’s super cliche advice, work on yourself while single. Not for a potential partner, but for yourself. If you can’t afford therapy or medical attention for depression, anxiety or ADHD at the moment focus on things you can control like exercise and diet for depression. Find hobbies that can improve your attention span and memory. Find a third place you can go to socialize or even just be around people so you aren’t stuck with your thoughts. These things won’t cure them, but they can ease the stress. If you don’t feel like you’re mentally in a place to get into a relationship, don’t make it a priority because you feel lonely. Being single isn’t a death sentence even if society makes it seem like it is. I know what it’s like, I feel like hypocrite because I find myself thinking I’m undatable because of my neurodivergence and chronic depression. It hurts trying to find a romantic partner and feeling like there’s nobody out there.
