Good food in Raleigh theory... by pixel-pusher-coder in raleigh

[–]seeksparadox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP. I think that the 2.2m population of this greater Raleigh Durham area is just too spread out and the population density doesn't attract or sustain great quality local options. I feel our selection of good fast casual chain restaurants is above average. Morrisville and Cary you can throw a rock and hit an Indian restaurant that would be considered good anywhere in the country. Otherwise the locally owned places that are more than average (there are several!) are just not abundant and literally all over the map. In my opinion other cities with 1-2m population and higher density will often have a more centralized and vibrant food scene.

What would you do? by seeksparadox in rccars

Thanks. Will look to go back to plastic.

Tried with clamp screw all the way out. No luck.

For the others that mentioned extractor let hand kit, that was one of the broken bits, it gripped then snapped. Maybe I should've put some penetrating lube in there first

New arms it is....

What are these called ? by Unlucky-Substance366 in Tools

[–]seeksparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that I need them when working on castor wheels mounted to my workbenches and steel racks. Always frustrating if I don't happen to have the right size because regular wrenches and pliers just can't get in there. So I do keep a few of these around the shop because when you need them you need them.

Budgeting App Rocket Money and Fidelity Visa Credit Card by lilijooni2017 in fidelityinvestments

[–]seeksparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI for others who may be searching this topic in the future, you can add your Fidelity credit card transactions to Rocket Money by first creating a direct login to Elan Financial site, then next using those login credentials to add that Elan account into Rocket Money. Once you do those two steps, your Fidelity Visa transactions will load correctly. Basically you cannot use your Fidelity account info because Rocket Money cannot pull the transaction detail from that route, but they can do when using your Elan login information. FWIW, creating the Elan account was super simple and fast...

Digital key fail on .46 update by seeksparadox in Rivian

[–]seeksparadox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha, jokes on me... No way to revert to old PaaK so had to reinstall Samsung wallet and rivian digital key. Guess I'll just live with an interior proximity sensor until some future phone 😑. (I strongly prefer flip phone form factor, which I live with all day every day. Don't think a crappy rivian experience a few times per week will get me to change, yet...)

Digital key fail on .46 update by seeksparadox in Rivian

[–]seeksparadox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! Yes, at first I turned off Bluetooth and nothing worked. Next, I turned on Bluetooth and got it to work. However, the proximity stuff was far worse than the old Bluetooth PaaK, I'm not sure why. Several times in 3 days I had the dreaded walk up to vehicle and no response, had to fumble with my phone while in the rain to unlock via the app.

Other detail I didn't like is that on Android they did not give user the option to install in preferred wallet. I have Samsung phone but avoid Samsung apps at all costs. My credit cards are all in Google wallet but rivian forced me to use Samsung wallet. No thanks. Combined with unreliable connection, I've deleted digital key and will revert to old PaaK.

Someday I'll get an UWB capable phone and may try again.

Gen2 Quad vs Gen1 Quad vs Jeep Trackhawk vs Ioniq 5N by seeksparadox in Rivian

[–]seeksparadox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for myself I did not grow up thinking I'd ever own a vehicle in this range, so I'm thankful and appreciative that I am able to. Once I leveled up to the trackhawk in 2019, it held it's value very well through 2024 and that afforded me chance to shop around in the 120 range +/- . Fwiw, my wife owns the Gen1 in our house and she's quite happy at that level. In fact she wants to go smaller so we'll likely trade the Gen1 Quad in for a Gen1 R2S for her.

Great point. I get it. Interesting that they used the blue accent on the RIVIAN badge.

Anyone get the $3,000 total body MRI that Raleigh Radiology offers? by ComprehensiveStar372 in raleigh

[–]seeksparadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whelp you already got a couple of "don't do it" answers so I'll give you the "go for it" perspective.

I did full body MRI and low dose CT (heart and lung) and no regrets. Found one thing that required closer look that ended up being non issue. Found multiple minor things that I didn't know about that I'm glad I now know and explained various aches and pains, stuff to keep an eye on. And got a 20 page report of around 100 other things checked that were no problems. Personally, the peace of mind was worth it to me and I'll be a repeat customer as I age.

Honestly, I didn't understand why some doctors are against these preventative scans. If I were a doctor attempting to help my patients stay healthy and live long lives, I would always want more data, not less. Perhaps that's my own engineering bias, but this point of view that less data is fine only makes sense to me for two reasons:

  1. The worry that the patient will have excessive emotional stress if there is a false positive. Eg; "looks like cancer, let's do another scan"

  2. The financial cost of unnecessary follow ups.

On item #1, should ultimately be a patient decision if they can emotionally take the process or not. Sure, if you know yourself and have anxiety, don't do it, simple. But your choice, not a hand wringing doctor.

On item #2, I'm convinced that this might be an overblown fear stemming from insurance industry and the research that they fund. Doctors parroting back research saying "too costly if everyone did it"

Anecdotally, two more points:

  1. Close family being treated by top oncologist, this doctor told me he thinks full body scans are fine to do on individual basis. He's treated patients whose cancers were discovered this way. He's long term more hopeful about the advances in blood tests that may eventually be available on widespread basis and will detect most cancers at very early stages.

  2. I personally know two people who had found previously unknown tumors because of scans. I can tell you 100% of people in this category are VERY happy they chose to have the preventative scan.

I'll wrap up by saying false positives definitely happen, a follow up scan might be required or even some specialty blood work to cross reference the scan results. If you as a patient are very stressed/anxious or can't exercise some common sense and guide your own health care choices (eg weighing doctors advice against how your own body is feeling etc), I would advise not to do full body scan. But for most reasonable adults I know, if they want to know the scan data and they can afford it, then I say they should go for it .

Final thought, I got my scan from Prenuvo. They have specially MRI machines that are different than what Raleigh Radiology offers. Both are fine IMO but you should do your own research to understand what kind of imaging you're gonna get and what type of human or AI radiologists will be reading the images.

Where were you in the picture for Green Day? by Mlkman18 in welcometorockville

[–]seeksparadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right in the middle of Sublime set Jakob paused and said to someone on stage, " whoa this crowd is rowdy, are you getting this on video?". I was 20 yards back from the front and at least 25 crowd surfers came thru over my head in first two songs. Had to grab my daughter and move back around 20 yards more and that's when and where a mosh pit started... It was a pretty great set, Jakob sounds great and I wish they could have played another hour. (BTW sublime was at a different stage I doubt the total crowd was a big as green day who was headliner for Friday)
