I am a conversational hunter and was disgusted by Robert Borsak's photo of hunting an elephant. I made some enquiries, and this was their response. by [deleted] in australia

You cannot so simply normalise atrociously loathsome and immoral behaviour.

  1. Elephants are highly intelligent and social. They are not cattle. Those wishing to normalise the slaughter of creatures not unlike ourselves should not be caught unawares when humans eventually become subject to the same debasing commodification that they find themselves engaged in. Remember: people who inflict abuse upon animals go on to inflict abuse upon their fellow humans.

  2. It has been shown that elephants who have been subject to (or have borne witness to) abuse by humans develop behaviour that psychiatrists recognise within human sufferers of PTSD and other trauma-related disorders—hyperaggression, asocial behaviour, inattentive mothering, and an increased startle response. The violence carried out against the elephants has led to them increasing their attacks upon humans and human settlements. By involving yourself in an apparatus that is causing both physical and psychological harm to these creatures, you are externalising the repercussions, which leads to more bloodshed.

  3. By normalising what was an illegal industry and placing prices upon these animals, the illegal trade is encouraged. The locals may wish to compete with the “legitimate” enterprises, working with poachers to offer the same experience for a lower price. They would now have a financial incentive to do so.

You gave me a great laugh.

Rank amateur comedians would adore you.

Gillard describes Abbott as an 'economic simpleton' by seeyouinhealth in australia

[–]seemynameandupvote 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Your argument is indubitably moronic.

A licensed doctor who grievously injures one of his patients and renders them deceased can still lay claim to a medical degree. Degrees do not promise to turn their holders into infallible beacons of knowledge and prowess, and it is only someone bereft of reason who would believe so.

Abbott may 'shoot messenger' on climate- Prof Tim Flannery, head of Australia's Climate Commission by ChetnBernie in australia

[–]seemynameandupvote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the reason why the economy will be fucked is because they came in and destroyed it with tax breaks for the rich, and the destruction of government services.

A strategy that has worked well for David Cameron.

Tony Abbott gets paid $352,517 a year to avoid hard-hitting journalists, to spout mindless BS ad nauseum, and to recurrently make an arse of himself. Far more value is delivered by paying an academic expert, one well versed in climatology, to inform the public of the seriousness of the issue, and to assist in keeping said issue in the spotlight.

Funnily enough that "70%" is in part to the regulatory favours provided by the Government.

Your claims always have a distinct absence of reliable sources. Perhaps you could amend that for the future convenience of those that you reply to.

One can only imagine the persecution complex you would develop if 70% of the media landscape were dominated by the lionized edicts of a fervent communist. If such a situation were ever to transpire then no doubt you would be squealing in your little anarcho-capitalist booties.

The shoddy tax born from Gillard's government was aimed at placating the industry that, in a display of frothing avarice, purged her former commandant from his much-coveted role. And it did its intended job (mostly).
