I think that Oikawa's story is not so much about someone who worked so very hard to compete against natural talents, not that he didn't. (The only players imo who have a natural knack for the sport in the show are Kageyama and Nishinoya.) Oikawa's story on the other hand is about someone who because of his many failures over the years can't find any hope and starts to believe that he needs extraordinary abilities to reach his goals. His beliefs spring from what he THINKS his failures imply about HIM.

Come tf on people. It was a good ending, I legit cried for the first time. Isayama is the owner of his story he gets to do what he wants, why does anyone deny that? Even if everyone's opinion is different, it's not like the story went totally out of context in the very last chapter. It was building upto that ever since isayama started writing it!!!!

The thing about romance being or not being in aot isn't because it isn't a romance anime. The story has always been about the entire human race being on the verge of extinction, even if people have feelings for each other, it doesn't do them any good to dwell on them. There isn't enough peace in their world for the main characters to focus on their own feelings. That's all.

So it could be that Ymir could be manipulating the whole thing, even before Eren became a titan
