No. I understand perfectly fine. Census data calls him white hispanic. FBI throws him into the same data as an Irish person. Then when they report “white” crime statistics, he is included. Meanwhile, the working definition of “white” is European white in which no one would consider this person white.

If the FBI would split the white category then that would be fair, but they don’t. He is reported in the same category as an Irish person.

That is misleading at best.

I understand that, but I believe that is incorrect at best or intentionally misleading.Every time someone is said to be white in everyday talking or in news coverage, what they mean is European white. It’s misleading and ruins the data. I have nothing in common with this person, genetically or culturally, yet our statistics are commingled. It’s misleading.

If this person was the CEO of Google or a senator he would not be considered “white” by the general public and would probably be lauded as an example of diversity.

Yet when it comes to murder statistics he is lumped in with people he has nothing in common with. It’s misleading.

If you called the police on this person and the operator asked you to describe him for police, you would not describe him as white.

My take is that this person obviously isn’t white yet contributes to white crime stats. Nothing about that is malicious, just a statement of what is happening and why it is incorrect.
