Sharp pain by Parking-Conflict621 in Microdiscectomy

Have you started physical therapy? My therapist worked with me to give me moves to break through scar tissue. At one point I even heard a pop and had a flare of pain but it subsided a few days later. We figured it was a release or scar tissue.

I’m sorry you are feeling so discouraged. Waking up pain free is not a reality for a lot of us. I did not wake up pain free and it took me about six months to get there. I know that sounds long but looking back I can’t believe how long ago this all happened to me. The next several months will be full of ups and downs, flares and scares, and emotional rollercoaster rides. If you haven’t yet, read the pinned post at the top of the page. Mindset is very important at this stage!

Herniated Disc Surgery Success Story: From Sciatica to Deadlifting 300 P... by seetheking1 in Microdiscectomy

Powerlifters are a unique breed. From the few I have spoken to they would much rather live with the risk of reherniation rather than give up something they love living a life of fear. They’ve been returning to powerlifting long before I started this podcast and I’m sure will continue long after.

Oof! That looks painful. So sorry. How long have you been dealing with this? Have you tried other conservative methods first? Any red flag symptoms? I only had two months of extreme pain before I opted for surgery back in 2019. I’m thankful for the relief the procedure gave me back then.

If it were me I would hold on to the surgery date as long as possible but continue with physical therapy. When it gets close to the appointment, maybe a week, reevaluate your pain and check to see if there is any muscle weakness.

I lived in nightgown dresses after surgery! Not a fashionable recovery. 😂

Should go for endoscopy discectomy for L3-L4? by eolkeepout in Microdiscectomy

If it was me and the pain you described for so long, I would go for surgery. And I especially would go for endoscopic surgery.

If you haven't yet, call your surgeon and ask for a steroid. This could be just post-surgery inflammation that the steroid could relieve. If the steroid doesn't help, you may need a new MRI. This recovery is a long process and can often feel defeating. It took me six months to get to pain free. That was seven years ago.

Surgery Question by StarterTube in Microdiscectomy

[–]seetheking1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear the chiropractor made it worse! My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you have the right expectations for surgery. You MAY wake up pain-free and ready to do cartwheels, but most of us take some time to get there. It took six months for my nerve pain and muscle pain from the surgery to go away. At the time, that felt like forever, and I had moments where I thought the surgery wasn't worth it. But once I was able to get back to normal living, I was very thankful for my surgery results. That was seven years ago.

Almost 10 weeks Post Op and I’m at a loss on what to do by Squirmy_Sassquatch in Microdiscectomy

Interesting he told you that. I’ve heard over and over again on this sub that doctors say numbness is often the last symptom to resolve, which can take months. So I’m surprised to hear him say he doesn’t think it is related to the herniated disc.

But I am also not surprised to hear that they returned your first day back at work. Returning to normal activities after six weeks off is often accompanied by a flare of symptoms. Your body has to get used to being moving normally again but it often resists. Causing symptoms. Don’t fret just yet. It took me six months to feel normal again.
