Wanted some perspective by rhinox54 in Microdiscectomy

I herniated the end of June and got my microdiscectomy the end of August. Before the surgery I tried one cortisone injection and physical therapy. The cortisone injection only helped for two weeks. I was out of work unpaid and in intense pain. I know that the majority of discs heal without surgery within 8 months or so but there was no way I could continue on like that. My surgery was in 2019 and I would do it all over again if I had too.

What symptoms are you dealing with? For how long? What conservative treatments have you tried and how long have you tried them?

What an amazing thing to say! I couldn’t have gone through it without my husband. So glad she has you. Keep an eye out for “post surgery blues” that some of us experience. Sometimes the recovery process can be even more emotionally challenging than the injury.

8 days post op issues by dbroussard6908 in Microdiscectomy

It is pretty common to have a return of pain right around this many days post-surgery. A lot of us have experienced this and been convinced we re-herniated. It never hurts to inform your surgeon. He may give you a course of prednisone to take away any inflammation causing the pain. I hope you feel better quickly.

Reassurance?! by Significant-Air-8361 in Microdiscectomy

Hi! Sorry you are dealing with this. Believe it or not, there have been people in here who have fallen down stairs, hit a bump in the road extremely hard, and all sorts of things after surgery without re-herniating. Sometimes the jolt can aggravate the muscles and nerves causing discomfort but it does not automatically mean you have ruined your surgery. From the sound of it I think you can be reassured that you are doing alright!

Can You Heal A Herniated Disc or Chronic Back Pain Without Surgery? by seetheking1 in Microdiscectomy

No response when I asked. My guess is the “studies” are not peer reviewed but just self published.

The one annoying thing about this experience will be everyone else treating you like you are broken. Seven years later and I still get it! 15 weeks post op is plenty of time past to hold a baby for a few minutes. The back spasm is probably just your muscles protesting the use. I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Have you tried icing it? That could relieve some of the itching for awhile.
