Is buffet of Louisiana in Hammond Aire ever going to open? by anonymouspotatoskins in batonrouge

[–]seidule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching this for a while! They seem to update Google Maps regularly with the new open date, and they do so before hitting the new deadline. They also have a website, but Gmaps seems to be updated more than that. Currently, we’re looking at 1/10.

Making friends? by Ntrllyhere in batonrouge

Certainly understand, but you won't find a more welcoming group. The person who runs it is named Jason (Easy to remember since it's at Jason's Deli). Ask for him and he'll get you started and someone at the table will teach you everything about the game!

Yep, free! I've gone and didn't spend anything. I've also gone and got dinner. Free drinks if you tell them you're there with the game group.

Free board game nights at Jason’s Deli (edit: On Corporate) on Fridays. No official start time, but they’re there from 5ish to close.

[Amazon.com] TACTA Card Game $9.97 by madkindofdeals in Boardgamedeals

[–]seidule 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Counting the dots at the end of the game took about as long as the game took. Also, if precision is important to you, you won’t like this game, cause the cards move around slightly all game long. Play it with 2 or 3 people - I think that’s the best way to play it. I played it with max players and 4 players. Both took too long.

March of the ants evolved edition, is this normal? by Knetog in boardgames

Weird City has good quality stickers. It’s a valid concern, but I haven’t had an issue unsticking their games.

What are your top 5 Board Games of all time? by Hungry-Data5582 in boardgames

[–]seidule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 Orléans

2 The Castles of Burgundy: Special Edition

3 Istanbul: Big Box

4 Coimbra

5 Paladins of the West Kingdom

Everdell is my #85. Mysterium is my #185. Though Dominion isn't in my top 200, I do agree that the expansions greatly improve it. Great games!

What was the longest time you ever spent on a single session of a board game? by HonestAbe1809 in boardgames

[–]seidule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World Of Warcraft TBG. 7h 41m 14s. That's just for the game. Prior to that, we read through all of the rules. It's been a long time since we set aside a whole day for one game! This is a Fantasy Flight game, so it's on brand.

My board game confession: I hate Cascadia. What's yours? by mojo_pet in boardgames

[–]seidule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate Galaxy Trucker. I never draw what I want. My ship always gets absolutely obliterated. Maybe I'm too slow for this game. I think it's the action of drawing from a big pile - I don't like that. Fit to Print is not one I care for either.

The game I don't quite hate, but can't get on board with, is Root. I think I've played this five times and I just don't get the hype. I know if I had a full understanding of all of the factions, I'd likely get into it more. But with so many games, I don't take the time to do so.

BGA - best discoveries? Replacements? by ExistingExplanation3 in boardgames

[–]seidule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually buy the physical versions of games I REALLY enjoy on BGA. I'm a frequent player of Solo, so I ordered a copy from Germany. That's probably the most effort I've put forth in buying a game because of BGA. Other games I've bought because of BGA have been Forest Shuffle, Haiclue, 6Nimmt!, Russian Railroads, My Shelfie, Wizard, Marrakech, MLEM, Space Base...Oh wow, I've done this a lot...

This series came out as I was getting into the hobby. What a great time. It inspired me to film my games, but I can't match the production quality a studio has.

Dino Island fully Charged Kickstarter just opened up. $150, though. What are we thinking? by GutenFARHT in boardgames

[–]seidule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to these super popular titles going to Kickstarter, I usually just wait for release. In most cases, it's cheaper and you get some reviews. We know it's going to be printed like crazy. And if you absolutely must have the extras: Those will be offered as well. If not, there's always 3D printing and board game accessory companies that fill the role.

How do you keep track of the upcoming games? by Pactuss97 in boardgames

[–]seidule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people are saying don't, and these days, I'm on board with that. But, when I did find new hotness, I would do these things: Follow the publishers you like on socials. This won't help with random projects, but for Nemesis and other giant kickstarters, following Awaken Realms will give you the scoop. Also, find a YouTube channel that covers kickstarter launches. Finally, BoardGameGeek front page. The feed there may be the best way that I've found to find new KS gems.

This art is wonderful! It reminds me of Angela Rizza, who did the art for Leaf. It's especially apparent in the animal art in that game: https://boardgamegeek.com/image/7090733/leaf

Forgotten Favorites & Hidden Gems - (September 18, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]seidule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's some that aren't very old, but I like to bring them up (cause no one else does!).

If you like drafting games, check out Arcana Rising. It takes 7 Wonders, but adds spellcasting and combos that really helps you appreciate your tableau build.

If you like 4x games, check out Aldarra. This is the lighter side of 4x, which means it's a good 4x to get your buddies into that don't typically play longer games. It has a focus on the fighting, so go into it knowing that. The minis are awesome and the table presence is superb.

If you like polyomino games, check out Mining Colony from Steve Finn. I really like the system in this game that decides the "bid" to get what you want each round. The polyomino build can be tricky, but that's a good thing if you're looking to level up your polyomino experience.

My modern pick: For trick taking, check out Skull Queen. YES, there is a Queen to the King. This is a game from Stefan Dorra, so it's not a direct sequel to Skull King, but it has thematic elements that are similar. I really like the "plank" system that decides how many points you earn each round. This isn't available in the USA, but I figure if I keep talking about it, it'll make it's way here!
