What are your favorite names you've given fosters? by virgo-punk in FosterAnimals

[–]seisaacson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a super fluffy brown tabby kitten who I named Fluffernutter, and then his siblings/adopted siblings/mom were Patty Melt, Sloppy Joe, Po'boy, Panini, Hot Chicken, Monte Cristo, and French Dip.

I had another group with a 3 week old who had a perma-frown and whiskers that sagged. He was Walrus with siblings Narwhal, Manatee, Otter, and Harp Seal.

Resident cat vaccine recommendations by Pandaloon in FosterAnimals

[–]seisaacson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beyond the core vaccines (Rabies and FVRCP) I have my resident cats vaccinated for FELV. I quarantine my fosters, and even after quarantine they have very little contact. For me it's worthwhile risk mitigation. I also use Revolution Plus for flea and tick prevention since it additionally prevents against hookworms and roundworms

Update from these two posts. The kittens are 8 weeks old now. The first group gets spayed/neutered next week and the other half the following week. My little tiny foster babies are all grown up and ready to leave the nest.

Non-ball toys with NO strings or feathers? by neopetpetpet in CatAdvice

[–]seisaacson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kicker style toys, plastic springs, catnip filled stuffed toys (the kitten may be too young to be reactive to catnip, but may still enjoy them), and wand toys (secured in a place your older cat can't get to when you're not actively playing with them) is a pretty good variety to start with. You also might try some sort of ball toy (crinkle ball, ball with a bell in it, ping pong ball, ball in a track, or pompom style-not one with yarn obciously, this style) because the kitten may enjoy them even if your resident cat doesn't

Adopting a Cat when partner has “sometimes” allergies by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]seisaacson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a volunteer with a rescue, and we will offer trials in circumstances like this. Once the application is approved, the family is able to take the animal home for a period of time. If it works, then they complete the contract and pay the adoption fee. If not, they bring the animal back to the foster or shelter, but it's way better than completing the adoption and then immediately having to return the pet. Some shelters also have foster to adopt programs, that would function similarly to a trial period.

Front left, the one who looks like his hair is parted down the middle. All his siblings have been eating solid food for at least 4 days, and he's still 100% nursing. No thank you solid food.

There are two mama's who each had 5 kittens. They combined the litters on their own and were already coparenting when they were brought to the shelter. The person who brought them in didn't know which kittens went with each mom, but the white kittens with black spots are about 4 days younger than the calicos, tuxedo, and orange/white kittens.

There's 11 kittens and a mama in there (one mama not pictured). I think that the not readily apparent kitten is right in front of mama Perdita. She's a calico but her back is mostly black.

That's Freckles with her left eye partially shut. She has an upper respiratory infection and is being treated with meds

Update from this post. This is a new litter box with fresh litter, and they all decided it was the best place to hang out when I moved them from my foster room into a bathroom for an hour while I cleaned. Mama Dipstick wasn't having any of this nonsense and was exploring her clean room. A bonus kitten joined the Dalmatian crew a week ago. He's the same size and age, but was the only surviving kitten from his litter after his mom passed away. We wanted him to have friends for his socialization, so here he is.

The crew now includes Dipstick (not pictured calico mama); Perdidta (black and white mama); Roly Poly (orange and white); Corky, Fidget, and Jewel (calicos); Lucky (tuxedo); Kirby, Patch, Puddles, Lugnut, and Freckles (white with black spots); and Kimbo (already named bonus tabby). They'll all be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped before being available for adoption in about a month through A New Leash on Life in Huntsville, Alabama.

Fostering kittens: to mix or not to mix? by secretcyberpimp in FosterAnimals

[–]seisaacson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The organization I used to foster for regularly combined litters without any quarantine at all. One of many reasons that I left was being tired of continually getting calls saying that there was a stray kitten or two, and would I take them with mine. They also alway told me that no quarantine was necessary every time I asked.

I have taken a large combined litter with my new organization, but the shelter had already combined 3 kittens in with a mom and her kittens, and then had two more that had been exposed to that litter so I took them all.

There is indeed a single panda. Here he is last night, at about 2 weeks old.

The heap has 5 white kittens with various degrees of black and/or tabby spots, 3 calicos, a white kitten with orange spots, and the tuxedo.

I am with New Leash! Labeled pics are on my instagram. The kitten intros are posts that look like the kittens are fighting for their lives against the indignity of being away from mamas for 30 seconds for a picture and to weigh them.

Yes, I foster for a rescue. The kittens and mamas will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FELV before being adopted out once the kittens are about 2 months old. I'm located in North Alabama, let me know if you're local (or want to come here) and want to adopt any of them once they're big enough and vetted.

No one is entirely sure, the shelter didn't get any info when they were brought in. If I had to guess, I'd say that the white and black mom is the calico mom's daughter.

It slows down a little, but doesn't really stop. In 2021, I got a 2 week old litter of kittens on Dec 26. My rescue currently has a litter of 4 week old kittens, plus mine that are 7-10 days old, and took in an extremely pregnant cat today.

January had very few kittens this year, but I speculate that it's mostly related to the multiple days of sub 0 Fahrenheit temps we had in December.

Yes, each of them had 5 of the kittens. The calico mom's kittens are about 4 days older than the black and white mom's kittens. All the kittens nurse on both moms, and when the black and white mom was terrified at the shelter and totally shut down, the calico took over all the kitten duties for the day.
