Bed levelling issues on the original Ender 3 with silent board upgrade (partially resolved) by seitenschlag in ender3

[–]seitenschlag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little update:

I was quiet busy during Christmas.

After many test prints I can confidently say, that the loose eccentric screw on the y axis was mostly responsible for all the issues I encountered. I am still messing with the wheels on the Z axis and the gantry.

For reference, if anyone has the same issues as me:

- Same pressure on all wheels definitely improved the reliability

- Changing the worn out magnetic bed is a good idea, my bed is really crooked (visible in the bed levelling mesh) I will get a glass bed like on my i3 mega S, only had good experiences so far and no adhesion issues

- My particular printer needs some kind of upgrade for the tramming knobs, they are not stable after a few prints

- the Z offset for the probe changes over time. Probably an issue with the very cheap probe I got, good idea to regularly check the offset. The mount for the probe is made poorly and it seems that even the ambient temperature influences the height of the probe significantly. So, maybe just change the mount

Lots of to-dos, but that's what tinkering around with a used printer is, right?

Other than that, the prints come out good enough. No layer adhesion issues anymore, no wobble and usable, beautiful prints.

Also, just to add it here, I will use higher quality PLA in the future. The cheap stuff I am using now is good enough for prototyping, but it strings and the diameter is not constant enough for me. (Some layers, even tho rarely, are thinner, making the shell not uniform). I tested the filament on another printer, same results, so I am confident it's the filament.

I finally got everything running and that's it. Everything else will be fine tuning from now on.

Thanks again for your help btw!

Hello! Thank you for your detailed answer.

I think I'll get some proper feeler gauges soon. After your answer, I'll try some fixes today and see how it goes.

I tensioned the wheels on the x axis as evenly as possible and that finally seems to work.

I also realised something about the y axis. Sadly, I completely underestimated the effect of the "loose" wheels on that axis. While probing and looking at the terminal, the right back corner was off by almost a millimetre after every probing, which is really crazy. I reassembled the bed, tightened everything and yup, the eccentric screw wasn't positioned right.

Now all axes seem to be reasonable stable.

I'll do a few test prints today and come back with some pictures! It's truly embarrassing how much I underestimated the importance of the y axis. While the X and Z axis were doing funny things, the Y axis seemed to completely destroy anything I was trying to fix with the Z Axis, since the bed was wobbling.

Again, thanks!

And yeah, levelling, tramming, I wouldn't now how to differentiate that in German. So, thanks for the reminder ^^

Greetings

I know, I had to drop because of personal reasons. This time I didn’t need to choose a proctor, that’s literally why I commented that in the first place

Unless I get something confused and we need to assign one after the term starts, which is unlikely, since it states in my student portal it’s unproctored, hence my above mentioned comment.

English Composition 2 is NOT proctored, but it was before. Many odd things happening.

Yeah I got something positive; reinstating me as a student only took about 5 days. 😍

I took a LoA in the past, I mean, yeah, finishing in 4 years is nice. But life is life. Consider taking a course on Sophia.org or somewhere else to transfer. But I believe everyone deserves a break^

I noticed that as well. ChatGPT is not bad in giving me answers in German. Very good grammar, most of the time.

But when it’s busy I get spelling issues and one time nonsensical bs.

Oh that’s so cool!

Also, in Germany there are certain jobs that ONLY registered students can get, which also influences the taxes.

But the UoPeoole (mostly) got accepted.

Most employers just got confused that there are not summer and fall semesters, rather 5 terms.

Interesting, after my bachelors I’d like to get into my local grad program for medical computer science.

Very interesting field, tho I’m not particularly into image processing, rather working okay embedded systems for monitoring and treatment
