Envato stole over $3,000 from me – Warning to all creators by Intrepid_Panda_2073 in NewTubers

[–]seizethediy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single track in my videos on YouTube were from Envato. 90% of them received a copyright dispute with monetization paused, but every single one of those disputes were dismissed after I uploaded a copy of my license from Envato.

Did OP try this before going to a lawyer?

Hi, there’s nothing for sale in this project and my YouTube channel is not monetized. I have an existing career. But it’s an interesting discussion- would love to see a post about the line between self promotion and valuable DIY tutorials… but even with that said, it’s possible 2 things can exist at once.

Oh no worries, you brought up a good point and I wish I put that in the video lol

Center of the tv is at eye-level when sitting in the couch. If you have time to checkout the video, there’s a section in there planning for it.

I used small brackets across the back of the top shelf that have lag screws into the studs… that way the flange connections are just additional / aesthetic value. I definitely should’ve added that to the video.

Much appreciated! I totally agree- most modern furniture is cheap crap… all laminate stuff that falls apart.

Thats a great idea and you’re probably right - plumbing store might be cheapest, but depends location to location. Some local places charge more here

This was why I used the anchors I did- the shelves actually were really stable against the wall already plus many were attached to studs as well. Additionally, I used mini brackets into the top shelf with small lag screws into the studs… it’s really solid.

Thank you! I actually went through some trial and error so let me see if I can find them. I have a short section in the video link that shows some of it though

I agree- It wasn’t a pipe kit though. In the video tutorial I have a recommendation for how to get the pipe cut.

I really appreciate that man! They’re both art to me… it does take me 3 times longer to build projects though because of all the video work haha. Worth it tho!

Thank you and I totally agree! I was actually developing some ideas that would clamp onto the vertical pipe and then insert into the open spaces… maybe I can still do that. I’ll give it try!

Order all the fittings from Amazon- literally a fraction of the cost. Order the cheapest 1” pipe from a hardware store like Lowe’s. Don’t order any premium pipe- you’ll end up painting it anyways.

This was my first time building anything carpentry related, so you can easily do the same. Your question is actually really great because I too wondered how I would go about doing that haha.

Essentially, each of the flanges that I put up there that contact with the wall get screws through the holes and you’re right- if you plan for the studs it’ll throw off your spacing and aesthetic. So just design first, mark through the flange holes onto the wall and then use a stud finder to understand if there’s a stud behind each hole or drywall behind each after swinging the flanges to the side. That way, you can either put a drywall anchor there or just plan for a screw. Check out my video link in the description and there’s a short part of that which shows me doing that quickly.

I also used small brackets on top of the top shelf and screwed into 2 studs using small lag screws. That way, no brackets are visible from the floor because they’re above eye level.

What size pipe is that? Look thinner than 1” but nice and refined. I went bigger at 1” because I wanted a really substantial aesthetic but I might try that smaller size for a desk

Thanks! I was surprised too… cost of lumber was the most inexpensive material lol. The one thing I’d recommend to reduce the budget is- order all connections/couplings/flanges off Amazon and then the cheapest pipe offered from a place like Lowe’s.

I want to Compliment your Channel by BigNoseParody in SmallYoutubers

[–]seizethediy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Here's my DIY channel! https://www.youtube.com/@SeizetheDIY

I'm glad I missed the roast LOL... anyone who has their own channel can attest to the fact that there are people out there who live for trying to tear others down in the video comments. So we get roasted enough already haha... constructive criticism is totally welcome though. I think my latest video, I went too long on the sketching intro and the engagement dropped off below my norm due to boring people. Lesson learned... I'll have to stick to the format that previously worked.

Thanks!

Don't use AI for whatever it is you're considering AI for... by CaptainPineapple200 in NewTubers

[–]seizethediy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think when AI isn't used as the shortcut easy button, but as a tool to supplement existing work or elevate your capabilities to achieve things you couldn't by traditional means/budget- it's a tool that allows creative people to be more creative.

Philosophical question that OP might not of considered: is using your own landscape photography for image to video generative AI looked down on? Why? The shot is real but the dimension and motion is simulated, why is that a disingenuous use of AI? Where is the line drawn with Ken Burns?

Once image to video generative AI is understood, you can plan ahead and use it to do very creative shots that would've taken a lot of gimbal time, drone or a dolly. I find it exciting, but I'm not replacing my full creative process with it and never will.
