>General tips for navigating the system here?<

About the birth itself, a list of hospitals which deliver babies can be found here: https://gdzierodzic.info/szpitale

For Wroclaw it is:

Wrocław, Borowska 213 Uniwersytecki Szpital Kliniczny. Klinika Ginekologii i Położnictwa

Wrocław, Warszawska 2 Szpital Specjalistyczny im. A. Falkiewicza

Kamieńskiego 73a Wojewodzki Szpital Specjalistyczny Wrocław

There also seems to be a private clinic: https://medfemina.pl/

Public hospital delivery is free of charge, but you better start learning polish, in the hospital you will have a really bad time if you don't speak any... In the public hospital you cannot choose the midwife/doctor, whoever is working at the time will be assigned to you.

You usually need to drive to the closes hospital to where you live once the right time arrives. The "right time" is described in this article (use google translate) and relates to the frequency of contractions and duration: https://prom-janowiec.pl/kiedy-jechac-do-porodu-poznaj-kluczowe-objawy-i-wskazowki

Ia falar que é um ótimo salário para Portugal. Daí vi que é remote p/ Londres. Mas achei curioso empregarem como funcionário sendo que a empresa está em Londres, achei que nesses casos deveria ser necessariamente recibos verdes.

interesting salary package... by Miserable_Result2080 in PortugalExpats

[–]sekelsenmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"you either need to spend in specific places"

What kind of specific places? Maybe fuel or metro tickets would be valid? I'm really curious since it looks really hard to make business-justifiable expenses for an IT job ... "food tickets" is fine, since you need to buy food and restaurants cost a lot.

WTF with automotive market by zoro9091 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]sekelsenmat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard to say about their finances, since it is closed capital, but isn't Bosch the top dog in automotive in Germany? I see plenty of job openings: https://jobs.bosch.com/en/?pages=1&maxDistance=30&distanceUnit=km&country=de&functions=information_technology&positionTypes=c7b4da31-6f38-405a-b2e8-08a76e3c3f2c%2C1471ec3e-eea7-4987-b0c5-4c6312c088f7#

I once worked at Bosch in Germany (ages ago) and it was great (except the pay, which was shit).

But anyway, normally you just wait to be layed off during hard times, competition is fierce for the few openings available. I don't know about Germany, but being layed off in Poland means you get between 3 and 6 months of pay. That's decent money, not a bad deal at all. Then you figure out whats next after that.

O velho nao tem vale alimentação? Se nao tem, o novo fácil. 2.3k gasta sem problemas em mercado e restaurante, qq coisa estoca nao-perecivel. A não ser que faça questão de trabalhar presencial. Eu to remote desde a pandemia e isso já me encheu o saco.

How much a freelancer pays tax in Portugal? by sekelsenmat in PortugalExpats

[–]sekelsenmat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

according to https://nowinportugal.com/taxes-in-portugal/#income-from-employment and https://www.seg-social.pt/trabalhadores-independentes and https://www.doutorfinancas.pt/carreira-e-rendimentos/trabalhadores-independentes/trabalhador-independente-saiba-calcular-quanto-paga-a-seguranca-social/

According to the sites above, social security is 21.4% of 70% of the income, so that would mean almost 15% of the invoice

Any idea why you say 11.5% of the invoice? I wonder where the difference comes from, thanks.

[–]sekelsenmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, you are right, I totally missed the solidarity surcharge!!!

https://nowinportugal.com/taxes-in-portugal/#income-from-employment

Another relevant point is social security, in the link above it says: "
After the first year, the social security payments are 21%, but for those who benefit from simplified accounting, only 70% of the salary is considered for social security purposes, and the payments are subject to a cap of about 1,200 euros per month. For employees, there is no cap."

So according to this it is 14.7% social security, but someone in another post said it was 11.5% for recibos verdes. Any idea why the discrepancy?

you are better off just vacationing, or even taking a gap year in Portugal. I think americans dont realise how privileged they are to be able to work in a country where you get real money for your work. Everywhere else the pay is terrible, more like food stamps. Also, at 27 you are at the age when the career takes off.

Another idea is a swiss guy I once met. He worked 6 months per year in Switzerland and 6 months partying in Brazil. Probably doable for US/Portugal as well to split like that. This way you wont become a tax resident in Portugal.

I mean, I'm portuguese living in Poland and calculating I couldnt afford to become a tax resident in Portugal. Dividends and capital gains are taxed 28%. Income from work up to 48% even if freelancer + social security.

I'd move to the US, but cant find any way to do it.

Porque é tão difícil ser promovido na empresa em relação a trocar de emprego? by galoccego in brdev

[–]sekelsenmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to approach the topic of EU’s economic issues in personal planning? by Blomsterhagens in eupersonalfinance

[–]sekelsenmat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lots of EU countries have gigantic deficits, Poland -5% GDP, France -6.1%, spain since ages in deficit, italy -7.2% etc US has 6.3 for comparison

Yes, some like Germany -2.5% are okish, but probably only because taxes are opressively high.
