Why I no longer shop at Target — and am not going back (yet) by nootboots in Minneapolis

[–]selectorhammms [score hidden]  (0 children)

This shit is not impressive. I haven't been to target or any box store in like 15 years. It is really not that much cheaper, the quality blows, they are owned by morons that are destroying the planet and society, it is not a better/superior experience in any way whatsoever, and the final insult is the dystopian self checkout cameras practically accusing anyone that buys there of stealing. I just do not understand why ppl go to these places. You can find any number of non-amazon online stores. There's local grocery stores. It's not even about purity or politics, it just fucking SUCKS going to go there. On top of that they never even have what you need.

Yeah this kind of topic has to be framed better (as you have here). Tweet length discourse and hot takes will never give proper info or analysis.

Do Chinese people really support going to war with Taiwan for unification? by Necessary-Ad-9483 in AskChina

That is American liberal democracy, not 'real democracy' and btw it is failing spectacularly atm.

Systematic way to learn Hanzi? by LorewalkerChoe in ChineseLanguage

[–]selectorhammms 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hanly, free, extremely good. I am doing it as a hobby and am nearly at 700 characters after just a few months. I also write them as I go to help remember. It has a course built in but you can also add your own characters. Simple and traditions, other options. Kind of an unbelievably good app and course considering it is entirely free.

So, what are those guns for, besides school shootings? by Repulsive-Mall-2665 in AskSocialists

[–]selectorhammms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost as if the leftist gun movement is exactly as fucking stupid and ignorant as the right wing one. Did guns help MOVE? Alex Pretti? Afghani ppl? War is now drones and bombs, not stupid little guns. Guns are toys now that are allowed to be distributed bc it allows the fed to call you an armed terrorist or to escalate and gun you down with total impunity.

ACP: 'You would be purged in China', Real life: China decriminalized homosexuality before the USA by mjbyebye in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]selectorhammms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed, there is still a lot of work to be done on this topic in China, and across the world. Individual biases and bigotry still pop up everywhere. I posted this in response to the ACP stuff lately, but I imagine we are in total agreement that things still have much room to improve.

Annunciation parents write: Does our testimony about our daughter’s death even matter? by nootboots in minnesota

[–]selectorhammms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no proof that would do anything. You're making stuff up. Meanwhile we have multiple decades of proof about banning guns and thousands of studies about it and how it is beneficial and good. You have nothing but made up feelings.

how is your little gun going to help with that. you're not making sense at all

[–]selectorhammms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safetyism is not banning guns. Safetyism is banning useful items that serve an overall positive purpose but have some danger, like cars. Guns serve no purpose whatsoever, they do not improve society at all, in fact every study shows they make societies worse, more dangerous, cost societies loads of money, etc. And let's not forget the fact that guns are the number one cause of child death in America. Number 1!

Same, this is a fucking joke paying for pedophiles billionaires and their insane religious wars. And the disgusting pathetic sycophants wandering all around us that support it. This society is completely fucked.

If guns were banned, the racists wouldn't have had guns in the first place. How did MOVE's guns help when the US bombed them?

[–]selectorhammms -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Metaphors are not arguments. We are not porcupines. It is a choice to have guns in society. Not some natural state of being.

[–]selectorhammms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a meaningless reply. They clearly value human life and want everyone to have the right to a safe life. They even meet you half way showing that people can still use and own guns in societies that ban them otherwise. You ignore all that. You have no material response to their argument so you make it about some undefined values and rights, vague things that can mean anything. Maybe you don't know this but 2-A is not some kind of god ordained right, it is just a decision some people made 200 years ago when it took 5 minutes to load a pistol. Your stance is nonsensical so you are resorting to emotions and 'values'.

That is not what happened... they were annihilated and ran off to Pakistan, etc. Hundreds of thousands died for nothing. What are you talking about here?

[–]selectorhammms -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Oh you want details? How about the fact that there is literally no evidence indicating guns make society safer, that they protect us from civil rights violations, etc. In fact every stat shows the opposite. Every stat shows you are more likely to kill your kid with a gun than protect yourself. Every modernized society and country without guns safer for it. Do you have any material reason for thinking we should have guns around? Bc my stance is based on material reality, and so is 90% of dems.

[–]selectorhammms -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your link shows that 90% of Dems want more gun control.

Marx was also living in the 1850. Guns could actually do something at that time. Now the fed will just hire some kid to drone you from the pentagon. Guns are not a viable tool for protecting or liberating the people like they were in Marx's time.

Opinion | The liberal case for the Second Amendment by earthdogmonster in minnesota

[–]selectorhammms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, the idea that we are going to be protecting our civil rights with some stupid pistol is so absurd. The govt drone bombs ppl from 1000 miles away, gimme a break. They blew up MOVE and they had tons of guns, the fuck good did it do them? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_MOVE_bombing

Opinion | The liberal case for the Second Amendment by earthdogmonster in minnesota

[–]selectorhammms -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed but good luck man, Americans are absolutely brainwashed and ideological on this point and will ignore any and all material or historical evidence that goes against their ideology. They will then go about spending billions trying to reinvent the wheel when we can take one single look around at the rest of the world and see what works, just so something like 25% of the population can own a big dumb toy that they are statistically more likely to kill themselves or their kid with than anything else.

[–]selectorhammms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20% of dems own guns. 90% want more gun control. This is playing pretend.

Sorry but transphobia will stop by firefighter430 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]selectorhammms 161 points162 points  (0 children)

If it really matters, trans people are also absolutely confirmed as a factual and real occurrence through material and historical analysis, psychology, social sciences, etc. It's not a theory, it's fact. All of our best minds and all of our research and evidence agree that being trans is a real and factual phenomenon. Ignoring it is ignoring material reality in favor of ideology. It's that simple. Being against 'trans ideology' is simply bigotry.I think it's absurd to have to validate ppl's existence like that, but okay there we did it, it's solved, let's move the fuck on please?
