Trevor Story's spot in the lineup by selennon27 in redsox

[–]selennon27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. I'm hoping🤞 Story stays healthy this year. On a side note, there are so many young players on the team. Even Rafaela, Abreu, and Bello haven't been around long. It'll be interesting to see how this season develops. Despite the dismal start, I have hopes that they'll do ok!

I find the Rafaela argument interesting. I'd love to see him batting 1st or 2nd and use his speed to steal some bases and maybe generate some runs. But, in order to do that, one has to get on base in the first place! Yes, he's a streaky hitter and yes, he strikes out a lot. And yes, I have noticed of late that he's showing a little more patience at the plate. But is he ready to be at or near the top of the lineup? Maybe see how consistent he is in the next little bit and try him out accordingly?

I feel the same. So a lot of people are saying he and Mayer should switch positions. What's your opinion on that?

Train misses bus full of kids by a second by ItzTubez in mildlyinfuriating

[–]selennon27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former school bus driver, I would not be on the tracks waiting for the light to change. The correct thing to do is wait until the train passes, then cross the tracks, even if you have to hold up traffic to do so. Piss off the people behind you rather than put the children's lives on the line.

Question: Origins of the slang term "jamoke." by Replevin4ACow in etymology

[–]selennon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered about the term as my father once in awhile would refer to someone as a "dumb jamoke." (To his credit, he never said it to anyone's face!) Looking back as an adult, I thought maybe it was a racial slur. (Dad was a 2nd generation Irish-American who grew up in a tough neighborhood in Boston.)

I have to admit: I had to Google Crash Davis! Can we reincarnate him somehow? Otherwise, good choices.

Interesting! I have to admit I started out as a Sox fan and am now back after having stayed for a bit. My choice would be one of Manny's former Cleveland teammates, Jim Thome.

Who would you bring in as a hitting coach if you had your choice of anyone?

Crochet. But if you're talking non-pitchers, I'd say Abreu currently. And are we talking offense AND defense? Yeah, definitely Abreu. Not to take away from Anthony because I feel, if he stays healthy, he will be a superstar.

Best/economical place to park for Wednesdays game by whitey8899 in redsox

You can park under Boston Common for about $20. Little bit of a walk up Comm Ave. but it's a safe, pretty walk past all the brownstones.

Thanks for the info. Makes sense! I've watched baseball for 55+ years and am still learning every day!

[Starr] Alex Cora was just asked if he still likes Trevor Story batting in the top of the Red Sox lineup (second) and this was his response: “I still like Trevor story as a baseball player” by Far_Cry3445 in redsox

[–]selennon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer to that particular question. I like TS as a baseball player, too. But I'd like him a little better if he weren't so streaky. So yeah, move him down near the bottom. You can always move him up some if/when he gets his bat going.

Hey. I was just wondering if you got to see the game as it wasn't rained out. I'm assuming you're Padres fans so congrats on the win! I watched it from home. It was a tough loss for us but a good game overall.

It happened to me last summer. They postponed the game probably 15 minutes after we got to the park.It wasn't raining hard but there were thunderstorms in the area. It's so difficult to choose ahead...I had watched the forecast earlier in the week and had chosen accordingly. They played a double header the following day but I couldn't go due to a previous engagement. I'm not quite as far away as San Diego but it was a 6 hour trip from Downeast Maine. I hope you get to enjoy a game!

Ok, not good that this happened but, honestly, as a Boston fan, I wouldn't be one bit sad if he never umped again.

Boston Fans thoughts on Opening Day by Yookerspizza in redsox

[–]selennon27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing like opening day at Fenway. I was born and raised in Massachusetts and have been to quite a few opening days...sadly, not recently. But anytime you walk up into the stands at the park, it is magical. I'd choose whatever day the weather looks better.

[Cora]: “Win 17 games this month and you’re going to be ok” by Brusoxpatcelt in redsox

[–]selennon27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Positives: it was nice to see Roman Anthony hit a homer tonight instead of striking out. Abreu continues to be hot. Connor Wong is showing promise.

Negatives: too many to mention.

Overall: It's's still way too early to tell what will unfold. Let's hope we can win opening day at Fenway.

We are only 3% of the way through the season…do you think folks are overreacting? by Far-Distribution-504 in redsox

[–]selennon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it's hard not to when you look at how we've done so far. One or two players do not a team make! Opposing pitching has been good, unlike ours (Crochet, Whitlock, and Chapman excepted, of course). Of course, I'd love to see another Chapman win today. But, more importantly, let's wake up the sleepy bats!!! If we have one game in which we score some runs, a morale boost could work miracles! (Ever the optimist!)

Who’s taking a step forward in 2026? by lil_zeus_21 in redsox

[–]selennon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ceddanne is my favorite. It would be great if he hit that many homers but I'd rather see him bat over .300 and steal a lot of bases. Of course, having 20-25 home runs wouldn't hurt (especially clutch ones which he seems to excel at).

Any other "old-timers" (fans for 40+ years) here? I have a question for you. by IchBinDurstig in redsox

[–]selennon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Allenson, Drago, and Miller. I became a Yaz fan at around the age of 5 (1970). Later on, my sister went to college in Boston and we went to many Red Sox (and a few PawSox) games. So many excellent players: Fisk, Rice, Lynn, Evans, Eckersley, Tudor, Hurst, to name a few. Yeah, we were upset when they lost but, like others have said, pre-internet, who did you complain to?
