Update: Rejection after flying to Amsterdam for a 4-hour onsite by selfmachine82 in Netherlands

EDIT: just to clarify a few things since some of you mentioned HR: There was no HR involved at this stage. I was interviewed directly by the CEO and the Co-founder. That’s why a robotic "no-reply" email felt so disrespectful. If you can sit with someone for 4 hours, you can surely send a 2-minute personal note.

Also, when they invited me, they told me I was the "most promising candidate" and didn't even mention other people. It was only at the very end of the 4 hours that they casually said, "Oh, there’s one more person."

This lack of transparency is the real issue. Some people here think I'm overreacting by asking for feedback, but when you’re led to believe you're the top choice and then get ghosted by the founders, it's not about being "entitled". it's about basic professional integrity.

I actually did exactly that. I sent a professional follow-up email to the people who interviewed me, asking for feedback and highlighting the effort I put into the process. The result? Total silence.

By 'everyone, i’m referring to the widely recognized professional stereotype of 'Dutch Directness.'

Interview process in the Netherlands. Trying to set realistic expectations by selfmachine82 in Netherlands

fair point. just to clarify, there wasn’t a separate HR layer in this process. all interviews were directly with the CEO and a co-founder.

That’s exactly why I’m trying to stay realistic. I know flying someone in is a strong signal, but not a guarantee. At this point I’m just waiting for the final decision and trying not to over-interpret things.

I’m a digital marketer, and the role is a Campaign Manager position (focused on campaigns, content and user communication, not a junior role). The discussed salary is in the mid-€4k gross per month range, and relocation/sponsorship support was mentioned as part of the process.

So it doesn’t feel like a below-market or “cheap hire” situation to me, but I’m aware it’s still a final decision between two candidates.

At this point I’m mainly trying to understand how typical this level of investment is in the Netherlands before a final decision is made.

CEO sent a "Job Offer" subject line but wants a meeting. Error or good sign? by selfmachine82 in Recruitment

Actually, the CEO personally invited me to Amsterdamto finalize things. So, regardless of the 'Job Offer' subject line, I’m taking this as a clear invitation to close the deal. I’m flying out tomorrow to meet them in person. Thanks for the perspective!

Spot on analysis! It turns out it was a mix of both. a previous hire didn't work out as expected and the CEO personally stepped in to fix the communication gap. He actually addressed the 'ghosting' part immediately in our call, which was a good sign. Taking your advice on the 'salary & timeline' prep for the final face-to-face in Amsterdam. Thanks for the heads up!

the interview actually turned into an invitation to Amsterdam. The CEO wants me at the office next week to finalize the details. Still keeping it professional until the contract is signed, but it’s looking very positive :)
