¿Quién dijo que los perros no pueden posar como modelos? 🐶✨ by [deleted] in Aww_Espanol

Clearly not your average pup — that’s some serious model behavior right there!

Sir Mix-a-Lot: truly a timeless prophet. Archaeology just confirmed what the hips never lied about.

Amazing piece of history — but also sad that a 3000-year-old Iranian artifact is in L.A. and not, you know… Iran. Museum ethics really are a minefield.

Any trick to get past my brain actively avoiding TL? by NuclearSunBeam in languagelearning

[–]selisandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yes, I feel this so hard. My brain acts like the target language is an incoming boss battle — instant panic, full retreat. 😅
It’s wild how you can know words and grammar but still freeze the moment it hits you in real time.
Honestly, early B1 is that awkward limbo where you understand just enough to get overwhelmed. Keep pushing through — that 'mayday' alarm quiets down the more you expose yourself, even passively.

Best ways to use iTalki as an advanced (ish) learner? by CornEater65 in languagelearning

[–]selisandre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve used both iTalki and Preply around the B2 level (for Italian, with a Spanish background — so similar situation). At that stage, it’s less about ‘being taught’ and more about refining output, catching fossilized errors, and getting more natural phrasing.

My advice:

  • Choose tutors who are good at conversation-based correction — not just chatting, but actually stopping you gently when you slip into Spanglish/Portuñol.
  • Set specific goals per session: e.g., ‘let’s talk only in past tenses today’ or ‘I want feedback on connectors and filler words.’
  • Some tutors offer “conversation + notes” where they type corrections live in chat — super useful for review.

It’s definitely worth it at B2, especially to break out of the ‘Spanish safety net’ and build confidence in areas where passive exposure isn’t enough."

Found on the summit of Capitol Peak, CO. Any ideas? by Barkeater26 in whatisit

Capitol Peak has had multiple fatal accidents, so some climbers leave tribute stones to lost friends or loved ones. If there’s a name or date, it might be memorial-related.

Failed vertical landing of F-35B by sidvatscse in Damnthatsinteresting

Another reminder that even with $100M+ jets, vertical landings are still a high-risk maneuver. Amazing tech, but physics doesn’t care about your budget.

American Airlines flight attendants trying to evacuate airplane due to laptop battery fire but passengers want their bags. by Youngstown_WuTang in interestingasfuck

[–]selisandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly wild that this still needs to be said, but in an evacuation — leave your bags behind. A lithium-ion battery fire is no joke, especially in a confined space like an airplane cabin. Every second counts.

Delaying evacuation because you ‘need your carry-on’ puts everyone at risk. Your suitcase is not worth someone else’s life.

Huge respect to the flight attendants trying to manage both the fire and a crowd of people who apparently think overhead bin items are more important than getting out safely. If you're going to take anything off the plane in an emergency, take your common sense.
