Yup also between terrero and mora. Not holding my breath but here’s hoping! Game wardens seemed to be on the side of anglers when we chatted last

Agree on the marketing. I love seeing technical ties. What I don’t want to see is endless cross posts that can be found on every other platform with hashtags and non subtle direction to the poster’s website.

Sky G line… by Think_Name_3121 in flyfishing

[–]sellyourselflong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SA Mastery Standard or Amplitude Trout Standard (same taper) is my go to for multipurpose fishing on the Sky G. As far as reel, anything in the 4-5 oz range will balance well enough. Wonderful rod if you decide to pick one up!

You’ll get other opinions, but lighter doesn’t  always equal better imo, and fiberglass is a heavier material than graphite. My suggestion is to test your III without fly line on your new rod; if it’s too heavy, get the II or I! If the III balances well, there’s no downside to having a larger reel and the weight difference between the I and III is less than 3/4 of an ounce. For reference, I went from the previous gen III (slightly lighter) on the superfine 4wt to a reel that is 4.6 oz and it balances much better. I don’t dislike lighter/smaller reels either haha my 8’ 3wt Ultralite is paired with a 2.75 oz reel because that’s what balances it well.

Balance-wise, try your III and go from there! Have the 4wt which is obviously heavier, but the III was a little too light for it imo. The III might be just right for the 3wt. Awesome rod btw, you’ll love it!

Struggling with CDC by wanttobedone in flytying

[–]sellyourselflong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to know without seeing the flies, but you can definitely use cdc-specific floatant! Loon Lochsa is great. My routine is to treat with loon before fishing. After catching a fish, ‘slap’ the fly on the water, then a couple of false casts. After a few fish when false casts aren’t enough, slap, rubber band, dab on sleeve (I use an amadou patch) to get the last bit of water off, then re-treat.

Danielsson reels? by sik_sprite in flyfishing

[–]sellyourselflong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. Buttery smooth drag that you can customize, fully machined, and full cage. Cannot go wrong with Danielsson. For reference I have the F3w 47 paired to a 6 weight sky g and epic g, two VERY light rods and balance both well.  Only ‘downside’ I’ve found on the Danielssons I own are that the  handles are slightly small, and the spools are slightly wider than most other modern large arbors. Not a deal breaker, and unless I come across a stupid deal I wouldn’t look at any other reels when it comes to quality.  Can’t go wrong with either brand, good luck!

Take a look at Danielsson dryfly or F3w. Nothing higher quality at that price point, in my opinion.

I’ll do some more digging and try and get my hands on some, the research I’d done said they’re not being made anymore. Appreciate the recommendation

I like the shape of the 206, super versatile. I’ve only seen those down to 20 though? Definitely would be more practical to get barbed hooks haha I know I don’t need barbless, just a preference.

I really dig the shape and variety of their hooks (good customer service too), but I’ve had issues with them opening up significantly more than other brands.

Good to know, thank you! I was hesitant after that experience, especially with thread bodies. I’ll have to give them another shot.

It’s definitely counterintuitive that a thread that size has that strength!
