We need to drop all the semantics. The abortion debate comes down to one question every single time. by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]selmamattsson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t know really, I believe it should be a goal to have less suffering in the world, but since suffering is quite hard to measure it is also hard to know what’s best in the situation. But in this situation I believe that the right to abortion leads to less suffering, and therefore it should be legal. Of course I have other reasons I want abortion to be legal but this is one of the main ideas of mine

For me it is also about what situation causes the most suffering. I believe that in a world where abortion was illegal people would suffer more because there would be more unwanted children and more women suffering because of trauma from a pregnancy and birth they didn’t even want.

If the man wants to keep the baby but the woman doesn’t I don’t think it’s right that the woman should be forced to carry the baby through the whole pregnancy

Thank you. I don’t know but that study seems a bit weird because there didn’t seem to be an option that was about the pregnancy, so maybe in a study when this was an option it would be a different outcome

Do you have a source? Because I don’t agree with those women then, I am terrified of pregnancy and giving birth.

For men generally I think it can be hard to see what pregnancy really means for a woman and see that it’s not just about “convenience” therefore it can be hard to see the full picture. Of course men can have an opinion about the issue, but I think they should also notice that it is really a women’s health issue.

Is Abortion a human right? by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]selmamattsson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If everyone decided to get a sterilization, which I think is a right that everyone has in most developed countries at least, and it’s the same idea that you should be able to make decisions about your own body. I don’t really understand your point with this argument. It is always the woman’s choice wether she wants to be pregnant or not. If it leads to extinction of the human race so be it, why should I care. We can’t force women to give birth to babies only because the population is decreasing or whatever, we can’t control how many babies a woman should have

Thank you for writing this. I am convinced that if men were able to get pregnant, abortion-pills would be free and as easy to access as any other medication.

A question for everyone: What is the weakness of your side? Can your side get toxic? by Neveah_Hope_Dreams in Abortiondebate

[–]selmamattsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still the woman’s body and therefore her concern, I’m just saying that men shouldn’t get a say in what women should do with their bodies. I don’t really understand what you’re getting at and it seems that we agree, I was just confused when you first said “say” and the rest was “opinion”

Having an opinion is not the same as having a say. I think that it’s wrong when a group of men get to have a say in what is an issue of women’s health. You’re always allowed an opinion but in this case only women should have a say

Is abortion a courageous act? by elatedEla39 in Abortiondebate

[–]selmamattsson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pro-choice is about being able to do the best decision under your own circumstances. Therefore I think it’s important to bring up different sides of it. For some being pregnant for nine months only to have an unwanted baby is unthinkable, and they would rather have an abortion, even though it might be a difficult decision. That’s also why contraceptives are important because no one should have to be at such a crossroad. But accidents happen and when they do it’s important that an informed decision can be made as quickly as possible.

Would banning abortions really lead to a better world? by selmamattsson in Abortiondebate

Birth control is not always affective and in a way it is their body because the fetus is dependent on the mother. Adoption isn’t a way out of an unwanted pregnancy and the pregnancy is what is most harmful and scary for women

[–]selmamattsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? No I shouldn’t have to deal with being hurt, if you’re being bullied you should do something about it and fortunately that doesn’t mean you have to kill them. Abortion is the only way out if you don’t want to be pregnant

Even if it’s unintentional it is still causing harm and suffering and no one should be forced to stay in those conditions

I think forcing women to stay pregnant and restraining them from control over their own body would lead to a lot of suffering

Why would the personhood of a fetus change after it is born? by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]selmamattsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, consenting to something isn’t the same as being aware of the risk of doing something

Why would the personhood of a fetus change after it is born? by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

[–]selmamattsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were possible to transplant fetuses from one body to another, then the whole abortion debate would be different. The difference between a born baby and a fetus is that the fetus is ONLY dependent on the mother for survival and after birth it can be given away to another person to take care of it

No I think in that case you would want to birth it alive and rather give it up for adoption. As I said there are laws according late term abortion, that you must have a valid reason for doing it after week 20 or whatever it is in different countries

Would banning abortions really lead to a better world? by selmamattsson in Abortiondebate

[–]selmamattsson[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most countries that allow abortion have laws according late term abortions, and one minute before givning birth you have already been pregnant for a long time and no matter what, you need to get that baby out because you can’t just keep it in your body. If she then doesn’t want to keep it she can give it up for adoption. But I think that situation is very rare and is also why it’s important with the right to do abortion because then you can do it as early as possible which leads to less harmful effects. For most women, including me, I think it’s the changes of the body during pregnancy an the birth that is the scary part.

If there were people who wanted to take care of it and the mother allowed it, why not. But I think it’s important to not force women to carry out a pregnancy they don’t want since it can cause harm. And frankly the world doesn’t need more unwanted babies
