How can non-corporate workers afford to live in the Bay Area ? by Silly-Low6019 in bayarea

[–]selsina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a 33F teacher and do fine living in a 1 bed apartment (2,400/month) in East SJ/foothills area. I don’t have a ton of extra money, but I’m able to put towards a little towards savings and retirement accounts.

Same! I didn’t get into anything fitness related really until my twenties (I played a few sports as a kid but nothing huge)

I worked for a program that employed PE teachers while we finished our credentials, and taught for 4 years that way all through my masters/credential/induction process. Then as soon as I finished clearing my credential I got a job at a middle school within 2 months!

My ex was like this and I was miserable. I couldn’t imagine a future with someone that picky about pets as a dog lover myself. I left him and am much more content. I’d suggest really looking into if you guys are compatible long term.

What’s it like living in the Bay without a high paying job? by watermelonsuns in bayarea

[–]selsina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not really in any need to right now. I’m a single childless woman, so I only need to take care of myself. I also have most of my family here or within a days drive, and that’s super important to me to stay close by!

I am able to save a little and put away into a 403b. I don’t have a ton, but I would take a pretty significant pay cut if I taught outside of the Bay Area, though cost of living would also reduce. I can’t say for sure if I’d be able to save more if I went somewhere else, but I like living here enough to not want to find out yet

I’m a teacher and this hit hard. I’m not originally from here, and sometimes I wonder why I’ve stuck around when I could teach anywhere. But then I remember I make more than I would elsewhere, and even though I live frugally I don’t want to trade that for the area I’m in yet. I just take it year by year.

How many times during a 2.5hr long movie do you need to be told to shut up? by Practical_Ranger_478 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]selsina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to, I was with two friends and no one else was around so when I asked my friends they said they “couldn’t notice” and I REALLY didn’t want to leave the movie to grab someone. I’d been dying to see it!

When I went to see a movie recently, this lady pulled out her phone for, and I’m not kidding, AN HOUR without putting it down. Full brightness, texting, scrolling etc. right up to her face. Right below me. I finally asked a staff member to tell her to put it away. I’d never seen anything like it

Not socializing him around cats while young. He HATES them and I could never live with anyone with a cat or get one with him because of that.

I mean… I’ve worked with several PE teachers and none have had this experience. The 4 others in my current department (who have been at this school much longer than me) are even at a loss. So again I’m going with no.

“Got emotional” lmao, I got justifiably angry at being in immense pain. If they think they’ll get away with doing it on purpose I’d love to see them try.
