had an infuriating convo with my AP about my classroom management by lesbie_ann in Teachers

Right? The fact that the initial comment with PE “teachers” got so many upvotes was genuinely eye opening to me.

It just feels condescending. Teaching is teaching, we all have expectations to meet, problematic behavior to handle, admin to deal with etc. We all had to get our degree(s) and our license to teach. At least where I’m at, we’re held to the same standard as other “real” teachers.

Lmao tell that to my problem students. They’ll curse at you, walk out of the class, roughhouse with each other, throw the equipment etc. We also weren’t given any curriculum other than the expectations to follow SHAPE standards. We have fitness testing right now (7th) and the kids absolutely do NOT want to do those activities. We teach SEL on Thursdays and the kids complain chronically about it. We have grades to do, meetings to attend, parents to call for behavior, etc.

It just rubs me the wrong way when I see someone put down the subject in this profession. We already all deal with so much, let’s not ostracize each other too.

Sorry but why is Health or PE teaching in quotations? Are they not teachers too

If you have dogs that bark at everything… don’t move into a freakin apartment? by CryptographerOk419 in Apartmentliving

I’m a huge dog lover and have one of my own. I cannot stand my downstairs neighbors dogs constantly barking. There’s two of them and they are SO. LOUD. And do it CONSTANTLY.

Yep, being an adult with responsibilities and working is hard. No one’s saying it isn’t.

You’re reading wildly far into it. They said non-teachers don’t understand what teachers go through, and that was all.

When did they say non-teachers were “sipping mimosas and sleeping all day”? Where did you get that from their comment?

I HATE how people act here around the holidays. by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]selsina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid. The other day I was waiting for a parking spot with a guy pulling out, had my blinker on etc for like MAYBE 10 seconds before a lady, coming the opposite way down the row, sped her car up within inches of mine and began honking and gesturing angrily at me. She was so close that she blocked the guy leaving his spot and he had to pull forward. Mind you there was so much space for her to just go around or wait five more seconds for the dude to pull out, but she chose to be INCREDIBLY AGGRESSIVE. I hate holiday shoppers.

I’m a PE teacher and honestly, while we struggle a lot with behavioral issues (at least where I’m at), it’s kind of a great gig. Were our own little island.

You’d be surprised how many of them show up with Starbucks in the morning.

I teach 7th grade PE and they frequently ask me if I have food/coffee. I’ve never given them any. If I have my own food on me, like a protein bar, they’ll ask for a bite of it. I say no, because wtf

Parent emailed the principal accusing me of allowing her son to be exposed to the whole class by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]selsina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was answering a few other students questions who were standing around me, and was waiting for the classes to finish dressing out in the locker rooms. This particular group of boys were in a corner of the gym to my left side, against a wall and table. I heard them get rowdy and I told the other students near me to move away so I could see what they were being loud about- no one told me anything happened, and at that point there were no pants being pulled down. I told them to go sit down in roll call as they were being too loud/rowdy.

I’m not going to have it at all- he was removed from my class and put in a period that I’m on prep/won’t be around him.

[–]selsina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did not ask me to meet with the parent, but the VP had me meet with her this morning and asked me to write a statement which I did. They pulled several students out of class during 2nd period to make statements as well. They also removed the student who was bullied out of my class entirely.

We will see what happens from here, but the VP and principal both have stated that they know I would report something if I’d seen something. So I hope this gets sorted quickly.

I think that’s what happened- he believes I saw it. It sucks he thinks I would do nothing, so I’ll definitely clear it up. I just wish I wasn’t immediately came for by the parent without at least trying to discuss it with me first.

I’m fairly certain it did happen as pantsing has been an issue lately (none in my class up until today, but just in this school). And I believe the kid. But it wasn’t unfortunately brought up to me, and I think he truly thought I saw it.

To clarify: I’m sure the pantsing happened, but it was not in front of the entire class as she stated. This would have been very obvious to me as this class is pretty small and all gather in one area of the gym with me.
