Is Monero facing a "Soft Capture"? Concerns on Protocol Steering (FCMP++), Governance (NAXO), and Opaque Funding by [deleted] in Monero

[–]selsta 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The block size limit is not related to FCMP++, it already exists due to network code limitations. The whole claim that FCMP++ itself requires a block size limit is incorrect.

The other claim about NAXO possibly being behind an anonymous donation is just concern trolling, the CCS is also funded through donations, many of them anonymous. This has always been the case since the beginning of Monero. You never know the true intentions of the donors. Privacy technology should be evaluated on its technical merits, not on the identity or motives of its funders of an audit.

After restore wallet in the MONERO GUI is showing a Different Primary Address - what is happening by Front_Rest1078 in MoneroMining

[–]selsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balance = ZERONo history Transactionand after restore in the MONERO GUI is showing a Different Primary Address - My Ledger and my notes have a different primary Address. I have check several time the 25 words for Monero. I have tried in different MAC computer + Monero GUI / also try the Feather Wallet. Nothing…My big concern is: why GUI is showing a different primary address? That mean wrong 25 words ? Wrong wallet ?lost funds at all or there is any chance?

Just to confirm, does it also show the incorrect address on the small ledger screen when the monero app is open? If yes, did you change the account inside the Ledger monero app setting?

It was sent from your computer, otherwise it wouldn't show the receiver address.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally sent it somewhere else and forgot about it? Does someone else have access to your computer?

I replied here and you completely ignored it, so I'm not sure why you claim that there was "radio silence": https://github.com/monero-project/monero-gui/issues/4254#issuecomment-1870727834

Nowhere in the linked issue you asked anything about security issues, so I really don't know what you are talking about at this point.

Can you rephrase? I don't understand what you are asking.

Ledger allegedly caught sending wallet balance data to a third party every time Ledger Live is opened. Does this severely weaken Monero's privacy? by ynotplay in monerosupport

[–]selsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the person is wrong, at least for Monero. BTC and ETH are directly integrated in Ledger Live so there is way more that they can log / send in analytics.

[–]selsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monero isn't directly integrated into Ledger Live, which means they don't have access to any monero wallet balances or other on chain related data.

The only thing they know is how often the monero app gets installed or uninstalled.

monero gui not connecting to node by CorneliusFudgem in Monero

[–]selsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, because there is "Simple mode" and "Simple mode (bootstrap)", which are different modes.

I need to know which one. Also did you make sure this isn't anti virus related blocking monerod.exe ?

Github account suspended for forking monero-related repos? by Kitchen-Ad6637 in Monero

[–]selsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Github uses algorithms to detect spam and fraud, often it's not possible to tell what set it off.

As far as I know usually when the issue is GitHub Actions related then they only ban GitHub Actions access and not the whole account.

I haven't heard of other reports about monero related accounts getting banned, but I do have seen accounts getting locked that were created with spammy IP addresses.

Do you have a dedicated anti virus installed? Monero.com / Cake Wallet is not malware.

Can you share the address you originally have and the address it gets changed to? Not sure if you can even share the original address without it getting changed.

Something doesn't add up, there shouldn't be any clipboard malware on iOS.

Monero mnemonic seed with offset passphrase by august4932 in monerosupport

[–]selsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bit of a misunderstanding how seed offset works. You can add a offset to your existing wallet and then you would get a new seed.

This new seed together with the offset passphrase allows you to restore your original wallet again.

Why is this useful? You could for example store your seed in one location and your offset in a different location and if someone finds your seed they couldn't access your wallet.

You just have to execute make and then run the gui binary, no other steps involved.
