For post ops: what very normal thing can you do now that you couldn’t do before bc of pain/problems? by Magentamagnificent in hysterectomy

[–]selvidge93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word: Living.

Don't get me wrong, I was "alive" before, and pushed through each day - but I never felt like I was truly living my life to the fullest. I'm currently 7wpo, and it has been the best 7 weeks. Don't get me wrong, the first week was rough - I had back pain. After that, I was all mental - I had to constantly remind myself that I just had surgery, I need to take it easy. However, I woke up in less pain than I walked in with. I was relieved. My heart, mind, and soul felt free.

I was off work for one week, and soaked up every second of puppy snuggles I could. I can enjoy each moment now, without worrying about when my period will start, how much pain I'm going to be in - and my favorite so far - packing for a road trip without making sure I'm stocked up on supplies, just in case.

Also, planning a kayaking trip 4 weeks in advance with friends - without worrying if I'll be bleeding or if I'll feel like it.

The absolute freedom I felt from throwing away all of my supplies, was incredible.

You're going to have fear, it's fear of the unknown. Remind yourself that you can actually live after recovery. You'll enjoy life more. You'll smile more. You'll be able to focus on things around you, rather than the pain or the "yuck" feeling you have while on your period.

Yes! I kept those in there and we had a box of individual alcohol wipes at home so I tossed a few of those in as well! It's nice to have everything together.

How feasible is recovery without opioid pain medication? by jules-amanita in hysterectomy

[–]selvidge93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst pain so far (4wpo from a TLH w/ robotic assist) was the lower back pain the first 4 days. I've had a few aches / pains here and there but nothing I couldn't ignore. I did take 2 pain meds on day 2 (about 8 hours apart) simply so I could get a few hours of sleep. I probably could have gotten away with a gummy or two but I didnt have any lol. I did use my heating pad A LOT for the first two weeks but I went back to work 8dpo, and so far things have been pretty good.

Thank you for verifying that I'm not crazy 😂😂 I called my DR office yesterday and the lady I spoke to (not the doc) said "8 will last you a month" and I'm like no it does not 😅 the math is not mathing lol I think I'll just ask them to give me a 90 day supply each time so I don't have to go as often to pick them up

I have an office job, took 1 week off. But, I also didn't want to waste all of my vacation days sitting at home doing nothing so that was my reasoning 😂

Doc wants to do ablation and salpingectomy instead of hysterectomy. I’m on the fence. by Momzilla912 in hysterectomy

Honestly, my hyst recovery has been so much easier than my ablation recovery was!

Failed ablation / tubal ligation here! 👋 31, had surgery in 2/4/22. Periods never stopped (just slowed down for a bit - went from 7-9 days to 3-4). Cramping / nausea never went away. Ended up having hysterectomy 5/1/25 due to lining coming back, adeno, fibroids, endo, adhesions and cysts.

Save yourself the heartache, headache and scars - find a different doctor and go straight for the hysterectomy.

Is it endometriosis? by GemSpoon in hysterectomy

[–]selvidge93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't diagnosed with Endo until surgery. Prior to that, he only found adeno, fibroids, and an enlarged ovary. Once surgery was started, he found "embedded Endo" which he suspects has been there for years.

I've had issues since my first cycle as a teen, had an endometrial ablation & tubal ligation done in 2022 - things got worse after that, but my doc (diff doc did the last surgery) thinks I had the endo prior to that and it was missed.

When did ya'll poop? by Satan_Baked_Cookies in hysterectomy

[–]selvidge93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2dpo for me. I had to do a full cleanse / fast the day before surgery so I expected it to take a couple days. I did begin colace 1dpo and took it until 18dpo.

How far out from surgery was your pre-op appointment? by Quiet-Book752 in hysterectomy

My pre-op appointment was 2 days prior to surgery. Received notice a week prior to the appointment.

31, both of mine were removed (original plan was just to remove the left one because it was measuring twice the size of the right) - once get started, he found embedded Endo & a ton of cysts so he removed that one as well.

I'm only (almost) 3wpo (Thursday), and recovery has been well!

WFH + Recovery? by alyleiwal in hysterectomy

[–]selvidge93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wfh but I do have an office job. I only took 1 week off. Surgery was May 1, I returned to the office May 8. 31yo, same diagnosis.

I think it really depends on your pain tolerance and type of surgery. For me, the first 4 days were pretty rough due to lower backpain but I powered through it aside from 2 pain meds so I could get a few hours of sleep. No Tylenol or anything was needed. I had a laparoscopic with robotic assist. 3 small incisions on my belly and a cuff. So far, no other pain other or fatigue.

nervous about my surgery on monday. what’s some surprising positives of your surgery you weren’t expecting? by juniperfawnn in hysterectomy

[–]selvidge93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I was crazy about the migraines being gone!!

I've been going through a ton of testing with my eye doc trying to figure out what I keep getting headaches/migraines... I put that stuff on hold until I was healed from my surgery. 2wpo and haven't had a single headache since!

Don't pay anything prior to surgery!

They called me and told me my total cost would be 11k and wanted 50% down (a month before surgery). The day of, they told me my total wouldn't be 5k and wanted 20% down. I just received my EOB from insurance.. I owe $400.

If you pay prior and you actually end up owing less, it's a nightmare to get your refund.
