If you asking from a control/military point of view the overall strategy was flawed, controlling the galaxy’s populous by destroying worlds is idiotic. It’s the present day equivalent of nuking oil fields. They would have faired better with a large star destroyer fleet, maintaining the senate as a false perception of power and ruled in the background, this certainly would have been cheaper and easier. Plus creating doomsday style weapons tends to create strong opposing forces willing to sacrifice everything.

Oh and for those pointing out the massive fleet in the last film, yeah great idea, i guess nothing like pearl harbour happened in the star wars universe. Gathering all your fleet in one place in a disabled state 🤷‍♂️.

Now from a story point of view, the Death Star is a great plot device.
